  • its actually the USS Fletcher

I served on her from 98-2003

great crew, good ship but good lord!! torpedoing it?!!!

  • Now she sleeps with Davy Jones down in his locker

  • scrapmetal,stupid America

  • @8geartodown good point

  • wow that went down faster then my prom date..

  • The ship will also act as a false reef, promoting a diverse and rich eco system for marine life.

  • O_O

  • YOU SUNK MY BATTLESHIP, BITCH.

  • Why sink it and not scrap it?

  • @Akathepriest Used as target during live fire sea exercises and manoeuvres.

  • @Akathepriest cause it looks cooler.

  • @Akathepriest True but it's easier to scuttle it. and then they use the excuse, " It will now be a fish's habitat."

  • @Akathepriest Artificial reef project. It serves the earth more sunk than scrapped.

  • @Akathepriest Because thats no fun

  • @Akathepriest labor costs, its not worth it.

  • @Akathepriest with the way they temper the metals it would cost far more to scrape and reuse the parts. they say its easier to sink them, i think maybe put them in a musem of something incase we run outta resources

  • @Akathepriest Cheaper.

  • @Akathepriest Because the destinity of a navy ship is to sleep on the bottom of the sea.

  • @Akathepriest They scrap what they can out of the interior, after that it is better used as a model to test weapons and procedures.

  • @Akathepriest to turn it into a reef

  • @Akathepriest turn it into an artificial reef, and also as a target for gunnery practice.

  • @Akathepriest Because any Navy man will tell you from the world over that a warship deserves to go down where she served.. The ocean.. Plus it creates a habitat for marine life.. To scrap a navy vessel is literally to dishonor the ship and all who have served on her.

  • Like a boss!

  • If the Iranians keep their shit up in the Straights of Hormuz this is what will become of their Navy. They will need a glass bottom boat to see it. Just wait till the US elects a President who is not beholden to these assholes.

  • Salute!

  • Lots of Memories!!

  • battleship is real!!!

  • I saw another video, I think it is the Cushing ? Sunk during Navy exercises off Hawaii.

  • the alternative for this is she would be sold to a private company and they would tear her apart and sell the metal to TV manufacturers, Foreign nations, Car companies, Computer manufacturers, etc, she wouldn't be made into a new ship, she'd be a crate of tin cans and Boeing 747's. She will be on the ocean floor, bring life to the area, and will stay there in some form or another forever. this ship has served the US and now will serve mother nature.

  • fucking terrorists i mean really really did they have to do that i mean really

  • @jacobcannon2000 it was sunk to make a artificial reef and as part of a multinational military exercise in Hawaii. It was offered by the US navy to test the torpedoes ability and power. It was going to be scraped before it was volunteered as a test ship. Terrorism had nothing to do with it, if anyone sunk her, it was the Australians.

  • i hate it. i hate how they do this in the navy....

    i mean, CMON!!!

all these ships have a history! they have served their times to their nation too! :[

they dont deserve to be sunk like that!

my opinion, they should tear them down, after a ceremony and recycle the metal/steel/aluminum. that way, the ship will reincarnate into another one! :D

it'd be more useful and a great use of the ship ^^

*sheesh, they should make memorials for ships which have marked their names in history :P*

  • @YTLyricsMaker Yeah, but it brings life to sea. Infact it may now be a coral reef.

  • um i wonder why re dont tear them down and recycle the steel, and build new ones?

  • @dekonfrost7 They want to make places for marine wildlife to stay.

  • She didn't even break in two like the titanic.

  • retired ship ? she still deserves to have a name and history !

  • @kenela This clip was on youtube before, and the ship was identified as the USS Fletcher. It used to be homeported in San Diego. Many times, it was anchored next to my ship, the USS Horne.

  • that just aint right.
