  • Next time I see a girl in school complaining and crying that they have a phone from 2008 and not an iPhone 4. I will make them beg for their life.

  • Maybe if you stupid Americans stopped being multicultural your country wouldn't have so many problems.

  • It's probably somehow German in nature.

  • Woow i just can't believe someone is doing this

  • props to him. well done, shows what people should be doing

  • HES SAID WINTAS COMIN

  • Ok i have tried to type the right words here for awhile but kept deleting them. No real words can subscribe how much good you are doing. Keep it up, something i cant do at this time.

  • Hey there's too many black people over there. RASICT!!! Let's get some white and tan faces in that crowd so it's more multicultural!!!

  • This is what the world needs more of.

  • Thats nice and all that you want to help people, but there are so many people here in the USA that need help too, there are little kids on the streets and doing whatever they can for money here too. Why dont we help our own country before we go help others? that way it betters us, so we can in turn help others even more.

  • @BloodStorm1991 See my video "Fighting Hunger in America". But, also, keep in mind that poverty in America is not the same as poverty in the developing world. There is a reason we call it EXTREME poverty. Many children die before the age of fix due to lack of clean water, 30 cent immunizations, or a $5 mosquito net. In America, there are public utilities (clean water), free immunizations, free childhood education, and even food banks. Not great, not ideal - but far superior to extreme poverty.

  • @BloodStorm1991 A human inside the U.S is the same outside. Such boundary's are imaginary. If people wish to help impoverished people...start wherever you please. Poverty does not discriminate. It is not an American problem or a polish problem or a Chinese problem...they are human problems. Im quite confident that technology and innovation will produce abundance one day. Money will vanish and resources will become common heritage of everyone. Crime, poverty, wars will be extinct.

  • @teewilson333 technology is why humans are they way they are now, because they use it to take over others and then they take all they have or do more harm then good. back when there was no technology, yeah there were wars but people knew how to live off the land. technology just made war bigger and power went to peoples heads.

  • @BloodStorm1991 Its not technology that does that it is essentially the value structure witch permits war. And it can be changed through abundance of resources. Suppose you had a system imbedded into your wall that you could access food for free. No one would rob a store. Material resources can be engineered at a molecular level to make coal into diamonds or whatever you need out of nothing but information files. Men conditioned in such a manor would act very different than us.

  • @teewilson333 no its not technology, its the people who make/own/use it... and because humans being the way they are, they are not just going to give out stuff like that for free.

  • @BloodStorm1991 You cannot look at the future in terms of the present. Humans are not just that way our current way of life conditions men into greed, bigotry, national arrogance etc. No one is born any way. Once scarcity is surpassed by global abundance today will become part of the dark ages. From the first civilization all the way to today will become the age of vulgarians where people had wars, poverty, greed, price mechanism's etc.

  • This is something really good. But, wont these people just depend on you giving them things now?

  • @ILoadng Great question. The answer to this is complex because aid & development is complex. I do not ascribe to the "handout" model of charity. But I do believe that proper aid & development is done with close collaboration with those in need. And those in need are not stupid and - contrary to popular opinion - don't like being dependent. If given the chance, they will ask for forms of help and interventions that save lives and pull themselves out of poverty.

  • So if it's not a charity... which box do I check on my taxes for "experiment in community"? Just teasing, but seriously, nice work.

  • @arachnophile01 Here's the serious answer: if your family gets together with your neighbors to pool funds to renovate your neighborhood playground, what do you check on your taxes? Or, if you're in college, and you pool funds with your friends to help a low-income student buy a textbook - what do you check on your taxes? Not all charitable acts are done via tax-writeoffs. But if you prefer that, donate to charity instead :) I recommend Save the Children.

  • THANK YOU YOUTUBE

  • there's no facebook page?

  • @jeffyyuan There's a Facebook group which you can access by going to uncultured(dot)net :)

  • Compaion this is what i am talking about ..... beautifull

  • "There is no them. There are only thousands of us." <3

  • wow its to bad that bangladesh is going to be completely almost completely covered with water soon from climte change

  • This is the type of person our society should be praising, not Angelina Jolie or any of that crap. Real people who give up their ordinary lives where they do not make millions, but only give thousands. This man is a true hero.

  • @TheTumbeast Jolie gives much more than "thousands", in fact she has spent millions building schools and orphanages in the very countries she has adopted from. Nice try though, troll.

  • Cake > Pie

  • really moving my conscience

  • I thought this was about Chicago politicians.

  • There aren't any words to express our feelings of gratitude for your work. We appreciate your 100% investment in your work. Please advise us about helping you. Contact us directly at Rev.Davidbozek(at)g(oogle)mail...you know the rest.

    Be Blessed By Your Day!

  • bangladeshi's are going to rule the world one day

  • Your doing great! Please keep it up. We need more like you on earth as well, Its all right to use some money to take care of yourself. Many others lie and would abuse the generousity of others. All HumanityUnited.... One Heart..... One Voice.

  • I am so glad I came across your videos! You're an amazing young man, Shawn. Thank you for your kind heart and acts of service. Be blessed, always!

    Grandmother Lame Hawk

  • All these comments are probably all well thought out and very kind (I assume)...... to bad I'm too lazy to read it all...

  • This made me cry. Shawn, you are an amazing person.

  • Inspiring - I've promoted this video in an article on my blog, Nextstarfish

  • hello there :) dear mr.shawn i can see that you are in the "youtube partner program" so i cant help wondering about ur "percent" from all of this ? i am sorry if i sound rude but this is not a non profit organisation , u r a guy on the internet with lots of money - charities and traffic - so why should i trust u ? why should any one trust u ? yes you seems like a nice guy but .. no guarantee there.. so ....

  • @shaikha255 Great question and I hope people can see my response. I accept donations - just like a charity. But unlike a charity, I don't take any of these donations to give myself a salary. Not even "equipment, operations, and overhead" donations go to me as a salary. Instead I earn AdSense revenue. Am I getting rich? Well, I'm 30 yrs old and have to live with my parents who then pay for my food and clothes. So you decide.

  • @shaikha255 Secondly, I would like to point you to my website: uncultured(dot)com. There I talk about how little I earn as personal income, how donations are never used for my salary, testimonials from villagers, and various references for my work - including statements on Save the Children's website. I do NOT point this out to get a donation. Rather, ESPECIALLY if you have doubts, I want you to donate to the charities I spotlight. That's part of my goal of my work.

  • /watch?v=WGas0D9_zgI

listen to this song by tim minchin. then look at yourself again, do u really gave the money to the poor just to take away your own guilt? or are you actually going to do more than that? peace out

  • @3rdWorldChildren If you look at my videos more - and the stories from villagers themselves, I think you'll find your answer. Peace out.

  • @UnculturedProject nah im not directing it at you, i love what you are doing and you are probably the most kind hearted person i had ever seen. i am just directing it at the viewers of this video, what are they going to do about it other than donate the money? i am hoping that there is more people like you that will actually go there and help. i hope i am one of them, but i am just not as kind hearted.

  • @3rdWorldChildren - who cares? The fact is that he's actively helping others. Why does the motive matter? They need help. Do you do more? Are you trying to make some kind of a point?

  • This is so great because you give everyone the chance to be involved. To those thinking about donating - don't think, just do it.

  • Wow. This is beautiful what you're doing.

  • this makes me want to do something more useful with my life...

    awesome project.

  • i cried.

  • Used the money you were saving for an xbox 360? That's like, $200.

  • @YourDailyLaughz Hey :) Few notes. First, I spent more than that. Much more. The very very very last of my savings was for my return ticket (already paid) and to pickup an Xbox (something I've always wanted to do) when I got back. I decided to go all in and give up that too. And I did it to show how a very very very small amount of money can make a big difference. That money put nearly a dozen kids in school and fed nearly 100 people. And more.

  • @UnculturedProject I see. Bravo Shawn! I plan on doing something like you as well, in my hometown of Sri Lanka. My name is also Shawn xD

  • @UnculturedProject hey man are you still doing this?

  • @aQuaSPLaSHLoVe Yep :) Stayed tuned on this channel :)

  • @UnculturedProject AWESOME. you're awesome. I will.

  • @UnculturedProject I mean are you still helping them, i know your not there anymore but still...

  • @aQuaSPLaSHLoVe Yep :) Hope to be back down the road. But taking time off because the last project I did was big and needed (in part) time off to recoup the donations spent.

  • @YourDailyLaughz well in Bangladesh 82% of the people earn less than $2 a day. 49% of the country is below the poverty line. $200 is relatively big amount to most of the people in this country.

  • wow,

im bangladeshi, and i need to donate NOW!!!

  • I love your project, kudos and I will do what I can to help out.

  • wow,u inspired me man.u're a really good person, hope i can help the poor community in the near future, somehow.look at those kids, all are smiling

  • I AM CRYING MANLY TEARS OF MANLYNESS

have I said that you are amazing already?

  • this is just wonderful idea by a wonderful youth....thanks mr Shaon.

  • You are just brilliant. What you're doing is amazing and seriously inspiring. I have a huge amount of respect for you!

  • You are shawn and you are the fucking man!

  • The Uncultured Project sounds like an amazing undertaking. It means a lot that with new technology people in impoverished nations not only have advocates, but can actually have a voice. Starting a dialogue with the people directly affected by poverty is an amazing idea, and I think you're going to change the way people think about poverty. Good luck, and thank you!

  • This is beyond amazing. <3

  • this video is amazing!

  • this is amazing.

    great job.

  • This is so touching and so beautifully made as well.

  • THIS IS THE MOST TOUCHING VIDEO I EVER WATCHED! IM NOT THE TYPE TO CRY BUT MAN YOU MADE IT HAPPEN IM SITTING AT MY COMPUTER IN TEARS RITE NOW MAN

  • This is a really amazing project, and the work you've done with the help of youtube is fantastic!

  • What your doing is amazing, you had me in tears, your videos are so touching. (:

  • This project is awesome! Honestly, I want to do the same once I graduate high school and further my education. I would already be doing it except for the fact that I'm only 17 years old. Anyway keep hope alive and working hard. Much love and respect..

  • you did a great job am glad that there still some kind people like you in this world.I hope i can help too !

  • this is too cool and very inspiring! i'm president of our schools community service council and this is exactly what we look for in a project. is there anything that you need besides money?

  • @amykins2011 I'm so glad you asked. There are many important things I need besides donations. I need people to be watching these videos because the views matter to many charities I try and team up with. Also if you can get people to subscribe to this channel - that would help more than you can imagine.

  • I just saw this on vidcon

  • hey lot of "poor people in this videos are not from Bangladesh? looks like africans

  • Wow, im in sitting at uni and this video almost bought me to tears. Its not about us, or them, its about community - how very true. Thank you for keeping community alive

  • i would like to travel there and help one day in the future. Are there anybody who know how i can do that?

  • dude you are awesome!!!!!

  • How on earth this video got 3 thumbs down.

Anyway, your Bangla is unintelligible Shawn :D

  • Wow!! great video on poverty and the power of people coming together for humanity.

  • It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little - do what you can. ~Sydney Smith

...started with one person...if all of us did something no matter how small or trivial this world would be a better place for all of us...THERE IS NO THEM!! IT'S ALL OF US ♥ Make A Difference ♥

  • Hahaha only me who found it funny that he had to "Sacrifice" his xbox 360 money xD like its equally worth.. Poor him now he will never use his xbox 360 xS

  • @StlfRudolfHelge At no point is the word "sacrifice" used - so don't setup a false comparison. I use Xbox 360 as a measure so that people can see how far a little bit of money goes. I also compare providing clean water to the cost of what Europeans spend on ice cream. It doesn't mean ice cream is more important than giving clean water to people in developing countries.

  • you are doing such a great thing :)

    this made me cry

  • Shawn, a million thanks for what you did. I am a Bangladeshi guy, and I came to US few months ago. I am really amazed to see how far a person can go for the sake of humanity. I'm glad that you went to my country and came to know my language and culture. But then I feel ashamed on myself thinking that I never did anything for my people that really counts; and you folks flew to a third-world country leaving all luxuries behind to do something good. It really motivated me, and I wanna get involved.

  • wow this made me cry. <3

  • Even in high school I realize that what you have done is something more amazing than my entire world. Someday I hope to help people. Thank you for your work to the world :)

  • this guy is doing what i haven't been able to bring myself to do. maybe when i am older i will be able to

  • this would be nice if people did the something similar in USA. Over 10% of american kids are on food stamps and live in poverty. Hope you can expand your work to america soon

  • It makes me sick to think how many people got rich off the Haiti earthquake through donations and scams.

I would only EVER donate to things like this where their is proof of good being done. KEEP IT UP!

  • Comment removed

  • "There is no them, just different facets of US!"

    True that!

  • this is actually moving, ima donate when i get sum money

  • Beautiful. I wish instead of spending money on weapons and defense each year, that the money would go to feeding, clothing, and educating the people of the world which it would do many times over.

  • Poverty is all about us...It's our lack of Love and care showing it's self to US...it's all of US...no exceptions!

  • Good stuff

  • I don't really like these videos. They play too much on your emotions and less on facts.

  • @Fingerpin91 ~ If the world was not suffering we wouldn't need these "emtional videos". Here is a young man trying to do something positive with kindness and care. We NEED to be a moe empathetic and compassionate world. The facts are he's walking his talk and bringing something beautiful to the people. Perhaps read about the project and open your heart ~

  • If you think about what really gets to the majority. If it triggers emotion, he'll reach more people. If he goes all history prof on people, they won't wanna watch that. Their 5 second attention spam will drag them away. This way he informs while keeping people watching. He knows how to get the word out.

  • @Fingerpin91 Well, that is the best and quickest way to get donations though. That's why all those donation adverts you see on TV are of the sickest of the sick kids, and the worst of the worst condition, They never show the good your money is doing.

  • Beautiful !

  • Wtflolbbqwallhax its john green...anyway this is a great cause that i think everyone should help out with...

  • omgwtfbbq

  • let them die D:<

    i will buy 1 slave, will pay 5 U$s

    kidding :p

    xD

  • Fantastic project.

  • You are beautiful.

  • What an inspiration!! :)

  • The new banner=WIN.

  • :-D

  • Shawn you are doing a truly wonderful thing with the Uncultured Project. I hope you continue to do well with it and help many more people! :D

  • We must help those kids!!!

  • Only, One day when we can all live in Peace, and every one can have a equality of life, when a hard decision will be :what to BBQ

  • How can i donate?

  • Thanks for asking - there is a link in the sidebar.

  • watch?v=3FAHIH2qbd0

  • OMG incredibly slow loading on this one D: did youtube change something?

    Dude, you are beyond amazing

  • Did you set it to play the HD version? Non-HD might load faster.

  • Shawn just stop talking to those idiots who just want to troll you... we all love what you are doing and we all try to do our best to support your work!

  • And people say the internet is just made up of abuse, perverts and porno. This is what youtube should be known for. Not fat kids body popping and happy slappers.

  • I feel that you are doing something that these people are more interested in criticizing you for having the courage to do this.....Ignore them...I fell you are amazing!!!

  • Wow, thank you for that. It made my cry.

  • There's advertising in this video?

  • I didn't see any advertising in it.

  • well many of my videos do have ads running on them - but I was just surprised that this video which I know doesn't have ads on it (at least at the moment) got this kind of comment.

  • Dude, first, let me assure you that neither Microsoft nor it's gaming division has paid me or sponsors my work in any way shape or form.

But, if Microsoft were ever interested in sponsoring my work - I would have no objection to it. Though I fail to see how'd they ever be interested in someone NOT buying an Xbox 360.

If you want to make another false accusation about my project - try and do it with a little bit more substance next time.

  • Okay.. okay... lemme get this straight. You are saying that Microsoft, in an attempt to advertise their game console (which I shall not name in this comment), has sent me on a journey that has taken nearly 3 years of my life to remote villages in the developing world - without paying me, without giving me health insurance, and without training me for aid work - all to market their game console?

  • I have a competing theory. How about that I, as a honest-to-goodness fanboy, decided to use the metric of this video game console to show how a little bit of money goes a long way. Because, while none of us can single-handedly give the trillions needed to end extreme poverty, a great many people watching my videos already have a latest and greatest game console.

So putting things in terms of possessions we already own shows how far we can all make a difference.

  • And (this is my second response), if we can move beyond your baseless accusations for a moment, one of the reasons I started this project is because I wanted to change the conversation about global poverty.

Especially when I began this in 2007, most "social NGOs" I found on YouTube had boring, depressing, messages which failed to connect with people. I purposely tried to move away from that.

So if I'm doing things NGOs you're a part of don't - I take that as a complement.

  • I think itekisan means 'cause the xbox was mentioned in the video a couple times..? :S

  • So Awesome .

  • Yeah, this video made me cry.

Thank you so much for doing what you do and inspiring me to try to do the same.

  • this video is amazing

    favorited*

  • This vid brought tears to my eyes. You are made of awesome! That's so great! :D I think over the last year, I've really learned what online communities can be - an unexpectedly successful way to bring hundreds or thousands of people together in making the world a better place. Because it feels easy. People like you make it seem easy to help, so people get on board. No leaving the house. Almost no effort needed. Just lots of good going out to real people who need it. :)

  • Shawn, you really are making a difference in the world, and I thank you for it :)

  • Thank you Shawn!

  • I almost started crying. Love what you're doing!

  • omg, that bring tears to my eye,god bless you for doing this kinda thing

  • I just donated. Keep doing what you're doing Shawn, it's inspiring and infectous.

     - Toph = )

  • absolutely amazing this project really moves me

  • just great!

  • This project is really awesome and should be supported by every single one of us

  • I've been following you for the past year or two, and I can't say enough how great of a person you are. I donated around last Christmastime, and probably will again here soon. This video pretty much brought tears to my eyes.

  • Gah I feel so bad for not getting that video to you yet -_- I'm still having a few technology issues, but I'm sure I can get it together in the next few weeks. Can you give me a link to the song you used here? That'll help with the editing, thanks!

  • If you google search "t r y ^ d" it will be the first link. Song is "Our Lives Change" from the CD "Public Domain".

  • Man, I miss John Green's old glasses! And thanks to him, he introduced us to you, Shawn!

YOU'RE AMAZING. Thank you for decreasing world suck internationally!

  • Gosh you always make me cry. I wish I had your conviction and courage to do something to change the world. If there were more people like you in the world World Suck would be at a nil.

  • This is awesome. i love how one guy used his xbox money and is now makking a difference to people today. Keep going on what your doing!!! you are helping millions

  • I'm the first girl that says "Hi Shawn" I love being in your videos :) You're a great cause!!

  • Your video brought me to tears. You really are awesome, and the world needs people like you to keep us going!

I miss home after watching the video! :(

  • There you are! Hey man, great video, great job. Hope you can find the time to update us over here more often. Your inspiring a generation good sir!! I'd say dftba, but you are the embodiment of just that. Be safe and hope to hear from you soon.

  • This project is amazing, as are the videos and the community behind (and encouraging) the project! Keep up the amazing work!

  • :) These videos always make me feel so warm and happy inside. King of gives you hope for humanity, or something like that ;)

  • You are seriously like the coolest person ever.

  • I just had to reply to this - that's so not true. The point of the video is that it's not about me. The project may have started cause it was an idea in my head, but the reality that happened was a community effort.

  • You just proved in this comment that you are the coolest person ever.

You are by far the most selfless person on the planet, and that is why you are awesome.

  • Uncultured Project ROCKS!!!!

    NEVER NEVER GIVE UP

    :D

  • my family lives in bangladesh, and many people have hard times, so this project is GREAT! you will be blessed by allah.

  • He just went... I'm hoping to do that some day. Only 14 now, so I can't really go anywhere, but I am so thankful for my school and all of the other privileges that I have. You're a really made of awesome person, Shawn.

I would recommend Three Cups of Tea as a book for you to read - it's a fantastic story. You're doing the same kind of thing, and it's great because we need more people like you in the world.

  • so i've been subscribed to you for a while now (and you may remember me telling you that i did a project for my global issues class on you and that i got an A on it) but this video honestly moved me to tears.

you are so awesome and selfless. i wish that i could do half the good that you do for the world.

    keep up the good work.

  • I love your work Shawn.

I am tight for money right now, but after Christmas I plan on making a donation.

    Keep it up =D!

  • thats amazing <3

  • i feel like such a jerk after today, i had a bad block day at school and was angry; then i look at these kids who dream of going to school.

  • If it makes you feel any better, when I was the age of many of the young kids working to survive - I was complaining to my parents about toys and video games.
