  • What a beautiful and reverent interpretation of this song. These folks are just beautiful.

  • Sorry, I posted twice, was also very enraged about the statements I read here and normally I don't comment on any slipslop - but in this case it made me so angry! In fact, they're not worth to waste just one word, but I met something like them before, folks, who obsessed even grieving people into their own virtual graveyard, into their own forum, just to bother, hurt and affront them. That is an enormous impertinence and here, these losers, did the same! Completely brainsick! Disgusting!

  • @all these "abbot"or"church" paltry people-

Fred Knittle died January 1, 2009 at the age of 83.

Therefore it's not necessary to kill him!

And you should be absolutely ashamed to say something like that!

    That's an enormous impertinence!

    You have no respect.

You have no education, no manners and your abuse should have been against the people, who were not able to train you to behave properly!

If you don't like this music, go away and don't molest the people,

who want to enjoy a great performance.

  • Simply the most touching movie I've ever seen up until now!!

And I love Fred :) he's an amazing singer.

  • Great performance of a brilliant song!!

  • Coldplay didn't write it.

  • This movie was absolutely delightful. And I loved this performance.

  • I love the lead singer he's sooo good, there are all so beautiful and the performance was absolutely brilliant and moving

  • Fred was phenomenal. I cannot imagine this song being sung better or with more feeling. I have seen this video many times now, but I feel no less impact the fifth or tenth time than I did the first. All of the Young at Heart Chorus songs mean so much more to me now, at age 68...such perfect song choices....such perfect song choices....thank you, Bob Cilman for loving and teaching.

  • They made some changes in the world by doing these!

    respect

  • AWESOME JOB!!!

  • @abbotblues

Congratulations, you make money (if i believe that claim ).. You're still an insensitive bastard undeserving of the gift of life and I would wish death upon any of your elders so maybe you may rethink your comments.. but see I'm not a heartless prick and to do such things would be wrong.. someone needs to knock a moral compass into you, hopefully sooner than later, because clearly your upbringing wasn't enough

  • despite what abbotblues thinks, i cant imagine how much courage it could have taken for him to perform this song. he did really well.

  • @abbotblues, wtf is wrong with you? I dont usually comment on things but reading ur comments made me so angry i felt like i had to. U clearly dont give a shit bout this video or anything for that matter, so y do u think anyone else cares bout your opinion of it? U clearly just want attention or u wouldnt have made the same comment 4 times over the past year on the same video. As far as i can see ur just an attention starved prick who has no friends and just wants everyone down at ur level.

  • beautiful, i have tears on my face.

Grandma i will fix you. ):

  • Simply touched. Very well done Fred.

  • Awesome song, by an awesome voice! Too bad about the keyboard warriors!

  • Saw this movie a while back and to be honest this performance was all i could remember. It made me cry then and I just did the same now. An amzing perofmance. If you have an ounce of life in you at all I don't know how it would fail to move you.

  • As age took away the things he had, he gave himself to the few things he had left. His is a pure heart; I cry with, and for, him.

  • Fred is actually a much more skilled singer than the Coldplay dude. Controlled and tasteful vibrato, good control of the tone. He really does have a great voice.

  • I have watched this video countless times over the past 48 hours. There are no words to express how profoundly this beautiful man - his rendition of this song - has touched me. Honestly... it has conjured many latent emotions that I have neglected within myself... whether by choice or as a matter of survival. The most passionate and moving.... and inspirational expression I have experienced in what feels like a lifetime. Mr. Knittle.... I adore you.

  • Just loving it..

It's better in this low voice

  • the best

  • absolutely touching

  • First of all, Fred was a old man, you see in his eyes, that he sing for somebody who he love.

I think its a Beatiful Man..

@BigChiefLtd You think that the coldplay version is better, his voice maybe, but he sings for money, just for fame, and Fred sings for people...

This song is from all Heart.

    R.I.P Fred.

  • @PeaceLoveandCSS

I think you need to read BigChiefLtd's post again. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but your response to BCL was both harsh and misdirected.

    Peace. Indeed.

  • now that is music!

  • Music that has been created to deliver an uplifting message has my vote any day of the week. When I was a teenager, I listened to Rap, Hip Hop, etc - mainstream stuff. None of it ever did anything to build me up. It made me feel tough and frankly a little invincible. It never actually did that for me though. It's a false feeling, instilled to sell albums. This music makes me feel caring and tender and instills feeling of care for others - and it actually does make me that way as I listen.

  • touching...best moment in the movie.

  • he did a lovely job at this song. so much heart and soul. i still love coldplay's version better, but the whole atmosphere that this song was sung in just brings it up to a whole new level. anyone that criticizes this amazing man needs to grow up.

  • you can hear his oxygen going off. this is toooo sad.... he has an amazing soul and talent. kiddos for sharing this thank you.

  • Music has no age, no appearance, no health it only has heart and soul. It is the only thing we will take with us when we die. Beautifully sung from the heart

  • I almost prefer this version to the original Coldplay...there's just something so comforting and sincere about Fred's grandfatherly, deep voice.

  • From Uruguay i love this song, I am emocionated,

  • This is awesome. Cry evertime I see this.

  • I want to have friends like him when I'm that old

  • God bless you! Thank you.

  • Alright!!! BigChiefLtd!!! You rock!

  • What a phenomenal show this was on PBS!!!! I loved every minute of it and I'm a 30 year old man. I highly recommend if u see "Young@Heart Chorus" u watch it. I hope they air a second season!! All senior citizens who travel around the country and the world singing rock and roll songs.

  • I could say how much I can't stand Coldplay and or this song as well and comment how I like this version more. I could also say how much I admire Freddy's courage for doing this, but same with special Olympics where I'm watching with a very uneasy feeling. I feel really sorry for him/them but its too painful to sit through this in its entirety, much like the song when done by Coldplay its too painfully boring to get through. I would like to watch the entire Doc on Young@heart.

  • This is incredible. It has so much intepretation imput that it way supasses any opther versions of this song. I dont like it at all sung by Cold play. Bravo to Fred and may he rest in joy and piece.

  • /baw/ this is too much

  • This was too beautiful I shed a few heartfelt tears.

  • I am 20 and will be 21 in a few months but this documentary was very very beautiful to me and it was amazing I will always love it.

  • Good on you Fred I was deeply touched by the song mate

  • goose bumps all over.. love this posting

xx and i agree with most of these comments "@abbotbules grow up"

  • I am in LOVE with this group!!!!! Go Baby GOOOO! xxoo

  • i jus saw this movie yesterday, this was a beautiful song!

  • this was so moving especially watching the people in the audience reacting to the performance

  • This gentleman put such courage and heart into his performance it brought tears to my eyes. I just watched the documentary "Young at Heart" about this chorus made up of elderly people singing their hearts out and it was so moving. I can only hope that when I am a senior citizen I will have one-tenth the passion for life that these incredible folks have. Bravo!

  • Esta versión me gusta mas, je...

Ademas me llevo mejor con los que mas tienen que contar!!!!

  • It is so amazing! God bless you all!

  • WOW.... This is really sweet

  • beautiful song no matter what. there's a certain emotion in this vid that touched me a little. Definitely something in the air there.

  • i watched this on tv this really speaks to me the only thing it says to me is LOVE

  • sooo beautyful, I cry but smile at the same time when i heard this video. You are all gonna be in my prayer. xx

  • absolutely amazing video

  • That was about the most touching performance I've ever seen. It absolutely left me in tears. What a sweet man. I've been there - so broken and alone, suicidal and feeling worthless, and only the love of one person has fixed me. This song reaches me so deeply.

  • i'm scared of old people..imma be scared of myself some day

  • you can just see the pain of losing his friend in his eyes and that he is putting so much emotion thought to every word he sings great performance

  • I really like this song and sung by this group. Music can keep the spirit young even when the body is not. This gentleman obviously could really sing in his younger days. He's doing a wonderful job! And I'm glad I didn't read the negative comments, because that would have made me sad...sad for the person(s) making them, because that shows a lack of real love for their fellow men.

  • I am so glad to have found this version . Fred sing it so touchingly with the painful emotion that appropriately goes along with his loss of a dear friend and his imminent destiny along with ill health. A great song, a soulful performance and I will always remember this occasion of its singing. I love this group of Young at Heart ! God Bless !!

  • this is really sweet and touching. lets not be disrespectful. you can wait until you are sick and 80 years old, I would love to hear you try and sing.

  • really touching.. wow

  • wooow... magnifique....

    wow....

  • for a sick man his voice is incredible!!!

  • soulful

  • What a wonderfull voice..

  • thumbs up if this reminded in any way to your grandfather... I would love to have him back :(

  • @xCuddlyKittenx there was no emotion he was just singing and it was quite boring

  • I'm sry but ... the only thing I'll give him is the fact that he doesn't have a raspy voice

  • Wonderful

  • Fair play good sir :) a fitting rendition of a beautiful song, done in one of the most aginising prediciments in tribute to friends, i take my hat off to you :)

  • Very good singing though. :)

  • im surprised at hom much that got to me

  • how can 15 people not like this video? i just dont understand. Besides being a very we sung cover it has an amazing story behind it.

  • wow. that was moving

  • is this a cult?

  • @thecreativeone98 It's a singing group for senior citizens. Terrific documentary about them called Young at Heart. Available from PBS.

  • @thecreativeone98 are you a retard?

  • It's beautiful music. Both the original and this version move me.

  • Wondering if you could put the song called Nothing compares to you from the movie it is so much better than the original. Please.

  • TEAR*

  • I watched this documentary one night on PBS and was captivated by it.

    Thank you for posting this!

  • @abbotblues

What in the world is your problem? Did you not feel the emotion in this man's voice?! Or did you, and you were just too mean to even care. Regardless, you are oblivious.

  • @abbotblues

Go play in traffic, you're an overdeveloped cum stain.

  • @abbotblues First of all, Fred was 80 years old when he did this song. And yes, he was on oxygen. Still he had the guts to get up and sing this tribute to his two friends. This is something called "character." Something you apparently have none of if the best you can do is criticize someone like Fred. The word "pathetic" was invented just for people like you. Grow up, get a job and move out of your mother's basement. She doesn't want you there any longer. She'd prefer to have rats instead.

  • @abbotblues Listen you fuck I am a fourteen-year old that owns a bio-technology company. so go fuck your mother because I shit $800,000 dollars a year, and I give 100% so africa, because I do not need it. What that guy did is have heart, and character, and what he just did right there, is better than every fucking penny I have given up. I live in America, with my Mom and Dad. I earn $2,000 dollars a day. Fuck off to you, and may the Lord strike you down. Your gay, i bet you dont have a girl.HAA

  • @manchesteralltheway ahahahah... you're 43 and you make $8000 a year and live in your mom's basement... shut up. bio technical my ass... you mean you clean biological waste at mcdonalds... fuckin janitor... shut up

  • @metabolife This has no concern for you. Just because I am highly superior compared to you, doesn't mean you have to try to bring me down man. Okay okay, so my dad's the real owner of the biotech company. I work as the co- head honcho. I still put science and biology into use. How about you go get an education. I don't make any money at all, for it goes to charity. I am not 43, I am 14. I am not eligible to be a janitor, for my age is insufficient. Why shall I shut up when you speak bull shit?

  • @metabolife Maybe the both of you should shut the hell up about what you do and how much you make. That has nothing to do with the video, and frankly nobody cares.

  • @manchesteralltheway dude you should respect these people not cuss all over the comments

  • @abbotblues 6) when your 64 you still live with your dad, honey

  • @abbotblues Hey, you brought this on your self here dude. You criticized an 80 year old man, who just sang a song beautifully, and emotionality. He sang it for his two friends that he lost. Apparently you don't seem to get that. As you see, BigChiefLtd's comment is the highest rated. It's because we all think your retarded for being an ass hole on here. So you fuck off.

  • @abbotblues you forgot to say you're a disrespectful asshole... and a stupid liar...

  • @abbotblues mate you really need too get a asswhooping.

Im very touched by this song as you see the emotion in it.

And tbh i miss in most of todays songs the emotion like this one :)

  • @abbotblues Can i put you out of your misery?

  • @abbotblues Can i put you out of your misery? its like you feel nothing which is really sad, it makes me really sad!! Our generation (im guessing your no older than 18 considering your poor uneducated, un empathetic comment) is slowly going down the drain thanks to you...

  • @abbotblues How on earth could you think something so sick - let alone have the desire to say it?

Damn, I don't even know what to say to you... Your a insult to humanity and our right to live, at the very least. :/

  • @abbotblues dude, that wasn't nessasary, the guy is doing what he loves in respect of old friends gone, i'm disguisted at your slander

  • @abbotblues I'm sorry that you have to live a day to day being such a cold, sad, lonely person like you are and have proven. I'm sorry you're unable to smile nor laugh and most importantly have respect and feel grief for people who are either dead or are dying. Perhaps you should kill yourself but I'm guessing you already feel like you're dead everyday.

  • @abbotblues your lucky your living in that piss hole country u stupid piece of shit. your such an idiot your mom should have suckd your dads dick longer instead of putting her cunt on his balls, that way i wouldn't be wasting my time now writing insults to a stupid english kid from a faggot country, who lives with his faggot father, and forget how much u make now sucking dick for a living, when your older i bet a prick like you would end up homeless

  • @smellyrat08 listen man i dont care what he did too pisss you off but can we not talk about cunts and dick sucking on this video respect this man if he looked at these comments what do you think he would say?

  • @abbotblues Ass hole. That is the word that describes you. Even though he was on oxygen, he still sang the song pretty damn good. People like you shouldn't even be allowed to comment on videos. Your an ass. Maybe if you had a little bit of a heart, you'd know why he was singing the song and what it's about. Go play in the street dick weed.

  • @abbotblues your a bitch for this comment i hope you die or have retarded kids that rip your heart out and stomp on it like the peice of shit you are

p.s crwal under a rock and die cause no one would give a shit if you did

  • @abbotblues you are a heartless tiny prick aren't you ?

  • Pretty sure he farts at 3:24.

    Very moving video. Beautiful.

  • incredibly moving, one of my absolute favorites

  • wow this is "so" good!

  • awesome, hes even got a portable oxegyn tank.two thumbs up

  • this is a very special performance with very special meaning - thanks for posting this one, i'm glad so many people have seen it...

  • Damn, don't you just love when music brings you to tears!

    Thanks for uploading this!

  • i saw the documentary of this, and its so worth watching,

    really moving.

  • @footballphoenixlife I so agree... I felt like I had been run over by a mack truck by the end though... Laughing, crying, laughing, crying...

  • just one word: PEACE :)

  • Pure beauty. This is divinity.

  • I just can't stop seen this video, it's so perfect

  • have never been so moved by a song. thank you fred.

  • Awesome, moving, beautiful!

  • "lights will guide you home" - RIP fred... surely a lot more touching than the coldplay version. great piece of music.

  • I saw the movie, what a wunderfull group of people

  • wow..i love this wonderful old man =)

  • beautiful :')

  • Read that Fred Knittle died..his bio...what a man

  • wow goosebumps everywhere

  • This is really amazing.

  • What a lovely rich voice, good man Fred

  • I can't believe anyone was heartless enough to not like this

  • That was incredible! I want to see some of our current "pop" artists even try match that performance!

  • moved me... some people really need to learn to respect elders and the art of performance

  • ssssshet

  • @tunetastic27 He may be fat but he's sure of a lot better person than you are.

  • that was deep, ugh.. so sad! my prayers are with them.

  • That was A-W-E-S-O-M-E

  • I would jump off a cliff for him to be my grandpa.

  • breath taking!

  • i miss my grandparents :(

  • unreal performance

  • more proof that old people are awesome, 5 stars.

  • I remember watching this film when it came out. This performance is still my favorite and was able to cause the "tears to run down MY face" just as it did the first time I saw it.

  • I remember watching this film when it came out. This performance is still my favorite and was able to cause the "tears to run down MY face" just as it did the first time I saw it.

  • MFCG01 has it right, this performance is definitely from the heart and well done for someone of his age, but Chris Martin wrote the song after his lover's father died, isn't that touching at all?

And do you honestly think this version is better musically? If you take away the context--if you just listened to this on the radio with no background knowledge of the group, would you praise it so much? The singing is shaky and off-key, and it lacks the beautiful instrumentals of the original version.

  • @losermandude06 I agree with some of what you're saying, and it is frustrating when so many comments seem to disrespect the original artist. However- here's the crux (for me): Coldplay is a band out to make money for their record label, and their job is to make commercially successful music. This man isn't trying to be a "Recording Artist".His version shouldn't be labeled 'shaky' or 'lacking something' in comparison to the original, just like people shouldn't say Coldplay's version has no heart.

  • @losermandude06 You can't take away the context. All music has context. You even posted that the original had a context for Chris Martin. Taking away the context of any musical performance robs it of the point of the musical performance. It's like saying "I love you" is more meaningful if you can say it meaningfully without anyone to say it to. Rubbish!

  • you are fucking awesome

  • I miss my grandma who died in 2000

  • johnny cash like.... very nice!

  • great performance. I got annoyed at the beginning with the clicking sound but was so humbled when I realized it was his respirator clicking.

  • ahah i got shivers

  • lovely hen

  • The set up to this story had a tear welling up in my eye, the sound of his respirator (ventilator?) had me wincing every time it clicked, and then he opened his mouth and did with Coldplay's song what they could never do. God bless you Fred, you beautiful man.

  • @eighthitcombo Apologies for being pedantic, but a 'respirator' would be anything from a simple dust mask, up to a Scuba system. A ventilator is a machine that breathes for someone. The unit this man is using looks like a liquid-oxygen device, which is neither of the above. It provides high concentrations (c. 95%+) of oxygen to someone whose pulmonary system is struggling to provide their body with enough oxygen.

  • @funstuff2006 No apologies needed.

  • Fred is real

    Fred is dead

    Fred is a legacy

  • very touching :,(

  • Better than the original version! Warm and touching, I love it and come back to this song a lot... makes me cry....

  • Gotta say I really can't stand Coldplay. That awful whiney voice makes me tune out every time.. BUT! Man! when I saw this, I was blown away! beautiful song and the perfect voice to sing it. Very inspiring. Maybe I need to rethink Coldplay :-)

  • a great song is sang from the heart and boy this song is sang from the heart its a lesson to all of us

  • I watched that program on french tv, and the song was translated , the lyrics are just wonderful

  • I'm not joking now but was that serious cox I found it funny?:s

  • man, this song is just something every1 in this world can connect to...

  • I dedicate tis video and the spirit that goes with it to my buddy in Germany. Marc, I know that you feel a great loss, but you, my friend have so much. You have your God~Given ability to help those in need - EVERYDAY. You are loved beyond your imagination.
