  • 00:39 -- funny that!

  • this boston mother fucker looks like vinny

  • BLU-RAY!!!

  • nah. get blu ray

  • @mcjegel Is blu ray an interface type?

  • @mytac0sftw Blu ray is the media that goes into the drive. The interface of almost all optical drives now are SATA drives

  • What are good speeds for choosing an optical drive? (i.e., 20x24x16)

  • @Ederik73 The bigger the number the faster it is, but more prone to errors. (But you can chose to write at a different speed). I would always go for the biggest, as I hardly ever burn and when I do I can change it so 8x if I wished too.

  • @Ederik73 I should have said - the errors only occur when burning, but not reading. So bigger = better! :D

  • Can you put any optical drive on any motherboard or case?

  • @osrald Yes as long as there is space for an optical drive in your case. All motherboards will allow you to connect an optical drive to the motherboard via a SATA cable

  • @nickerless557 How about harddrive

thanks for your help i will subscribe to your channel.

  • @osrald its the same for the hard drive. You just need space in the case and a SATA cable to connect your drive to the motherboard

  • @nickerless557 Thanks!

  • I Got a 3d blu ray because this is 2011

  • I don't think I will have a dvd, cd, or even a blu ray drive in my computer. I have a Xbox 360, a PS3, and I never need to burn discs.

  • Comment removed

  • He keeps looking to the right of the camera; he has notes there :O

  • How about a blu-ray drive?

  • skyrim came out this day three years from then =)

  • These tuts are honestly garbage. He just recites what he has read offline and doesnt have any experience in what hes talking about. There is absolutely nothing wrong with, and i prefer, sata compatible optical.

  • there is no blu ray dvds without sata in them are they better now sata optical drives

  • is a blu ray drive ok it should be hopefully?

  • I went with a blu ray drive because this is 2011

  • what about blueray :(

  • @wiipronhi

this vid is kinda old and blueray wast realy a big hiet then (i think) ((sortof))

  • @wiipronhi bluray hardly existed in 2008

  • Question, if I put in two cd drives does that count as one dvd drive?

  • @shawn3975 No it will just read two cd disks and not a dvd disk. Just getting two CD drives does not equal a dvd drive. Just get a dvd drive and you will be set. Or get two if installing a game with multiple disks. I am answering this because I am hoping this wasn't a troll question.

  • @Mr1Puff lol it was a troll question, I would have to be pretty stupid to think 2 cd drives = 1 dvd drive.

  • @shawn3975 Figured but was like what the hell maybe he is dumb. I have sadly come across people that have actually asked your question before.

  • @Mr1Puff lol I hope you are joking, I would piss myself if someone asked me that. There are alot of dumb people. Just look at all these morons buying alienware full tower PCs when you can build one with the same specs for like a 3rd of the cost. Waste of $.

  • @shawn3975 Just built myself a computer - Info- Corsair obsidian black 650B case, corsair dominator 2000mhz 2x4g of ram, i7 2600k processor at 3.4ghz for now, 128g WD SSD, WD 1terabyte HDD, 850 watt power supply, and Zotac GTX 560 Ti Zt graphics card. Cost 1400 dollars total. :)

  • im having cd, floppy, and dvd drive

  • O snap then whats blue-ray

  • wait....i already bought a sata is that really bad??.. great now i get to doubt myself until someone offers assistance...

  • @supersoccerjon this is a very old video

  • No shit, pricewatch only shows SATA? o0

  • what i want? I WANT BLUERAY ^^

  • lol do they still make cd drives.... But good vid man

  • Now adays thats just a good porn machine lol jk

  • Im not buying an optical drive cause I have no need xD

  • @2RandomStudios you need one to install the os >.>

  • @MrMoonCraft No you don't, you can install windows from a usb drive

  • what about a bluray drive?

  • @iamthebomb17 if we are going for a FULL HD screen with a compatible graphics card and you have 120$ to spent to something you probably won't use (because i prefer watching them in my living room at my ps3) then yea sure.

  • @manfromgreece well, $120 is still cheaper than a PS3 or blueray player and you can connect your PC to your HDTV

  • @iamthebomb17 i have a full tower (CoolerMaster Cosmos S case) so i cant move it, if you can great. After all i didnt buy the PS3 for waching movies (wich i love doing) but because i wanted a game console and PS3 was that+a blue-ray player (2 in 1) :D so as you can see it is what it works best for you, for me this works best, for you the bleu-ray on your pc =]

  • The thing to remember is if you actually need a DVD drive. Most people play DVDs on their PC so if you're using it for anything more than office work then DVD is the way to go.

  • buying a CD drive is like buying a piece of garbage AHAHAHA

  • lol now its NEVER get a dvd or cd drive. get a blu-ray

  • what kind of mother boader to buy i am new to built comupter i go to moirc cent for computer part they high price do know good site cheap computer parts ?

  • @mbison564 you can always count on newegg, amazon, and tigerdirect.

basically, you check the motherboard for the compatibility of all the other internal parts

intel and amd processors have diff. motherboards that work on them like am3 for some amd. newegg makes it easy so go check it out

it's a long process so make sure to research on different websites and videos

  • NOW THERES BLU-RAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love this guy :)

  • FUCK i wanted to get an SSD but my laptop had an IDD! are there good (fast) ssd's for ma laptop?

  • What do you mean all operating systems stopped recognizing SATA optical drives?

  • i am going to have floppy disk drive

  • @boof1991 I will have a compact cassette reader.

  • do they have blue ray drives now?

  • @EffinTimmy Yes, but they are about 140$.

  • 0:55 "please im begging you....next thing..." xD

your very informative, even though this is from 2 years ago i just upped the ante a little, this will definately help me for my first build :D

  • Please buy an DVD Drive , im Begging You , ! lol . :P

  • Please Buy an CD drive . im begging you . .! :P

  • How much did this cost you in the end like what $2000?

  • @TommyReedVlog Definitely not.

  • @TommyReedVlog

Probably not. You can build god-tier computers for $1500 or less. "Awesome" quality computers, even, for less than $1000.

  • thanks alot for the info and yeah i might be a beginer but this was a good . now i understand my engineneers a liltle more

  • Get a DVD hes beging you.

  • where do you suggest buying all of these parts is newegg good

  • apple has a computer with 32 gb ddr3 ram memory

  • What happen if your just building this computer mainly for business and workstations? Would you need an optical drive for this?

  • @DarkFlip22

You'll need an optical drive for pretty much anything. They're only $20, so no biggie.

  • DAMNIT I BOUGHT A SATA AND IT BROKE Thats cause i watched this like 2 years ago and built me pc a year after

  • @Sukikeri go SSD

  • I think I'm gonna buy a cd drive lol.

  • @joeymetts13 dude.. no way!

go for a floppy disk, duh

  • Hey is it possible to use an 1999 PCI Ethernet Card for my newer MoBo its a

    MSi 980a G-65

  • @FijiBornIndian89 Highly doubt it, unless you have a PCI slot, which most don't, most only use PCI-E slots.

  • i have a SONY NEC (AD-5240s) SATA DVD Burner Product of january 2010 in my PC with Windows Xp Pro and works with no problems and the Windows recognized it

  • newegg is the shit

i got a amd phenom ii quad core 3.4ghz black edition, a sick ass motherboard, 4 gbs of high quality ram, dvd,cd writer and a good case for under 400$

    i love you newegg :D

  • nice a got both cd and dvd

  • i have a Samsung TS-H653G DVD-RW SATA Optical Drive - OEM, pretty sweet i think, not ordered yet and i chose it before watchin this vid

  • are dvd burners also dvd drives ???

  • Windows 7 is the beat period.

Vista is just a incomplete version of Windows 7. thats why it has so many problems

  • hint get a blue-ray drive not a dvd drive

  • can a blu ray drive play dvd's/ cd's ?

  • @hiimbob155 yeah

  • @xXgamer678Xx can it also burn dvd/cd? more importantly dual layer dvd?

  • @blaznspadz yep

  • I disagree IDE IS TRASH GET SATA DVD 100%....OR STEP UP TO BLUERAY

  • *sigh* say what you want about Vista. I haven't had 1 single problem with it since I bought it. (3 years ago)

  • Buy the cheapest one you can find no one uses optical drives anymore unless you do blu-ray so it's all over the internet now so bu like a 16$ drive for your device drivers when u build the computer

  • sure

  • Silly faggot... There is no reason to have an optical drive in the super cool uber futuristic year of two thousand fucking ten...

  • @disbuylshite are you saying we shouldn't buy optical drives?!?!?!?!?

  • @whitemanwii That's exactly what i'm saying.

  • @disbuylshite if you want to be an idiot and not buy one fine... but uhh what happens if you run into a game you REALLY want but its on disc....

  • @whitemanwii Lrn2 torrent & Alcohol 120%

  • @disbuylshite i do know how to torrent but thats also illigal so if you get cought... your ganna say while your paying a fine... or in jail "damn i wish i got a disc drive and just bought everything" i only torrent a few things not games...

  • @whitemanwii sigh... different people have different needs then?

  • 250G = asain

    2TB = AMERICAN!!

  • @561inurface 4TB = African American!

  • Hey!! MatsVidar!!! What's wrong with Vista?!?!?! I haven't had any problems at all with Vista! I honestly don't see why switching to windows 7 is such a big thing right now.....that's like throwing (how much is windows 7?) $200 out of your wallet for something that runs almost the same as the previous version

  • @TheGyromaster vista is peace of crap!!! it even cant run fucking garry`s mod!!!

  • @TheGyromaster lrn2 piracy

  • blu ray? lmao... 2008

  • last vid was about sata vs pata but what about ssd or hdd? which is better

  • @ID2Japan SSD stands for solid state disk (which i believe you know) and is therefore more quiet and produces les heat, because it has no moving parts, but so far they are not so popular yet, but i believe that in 5 they will be more widely used than HDD.

  • what you all talking and giving comment these say will be trash and shit for another day later. technology are moving faster than we ever think of it.

  • i like ur videos : )

  • Blu-Ray for me!

  • um get a sata drive this is old info. your OS will recognize it just fine

  • Hey get a blueray drive, its practically a dvd drive times 5 the storage capability

  • nice videos bro good job

  • ram got it

  • lol i have 2 dvd and cd drive in my computer :)

  • the fucking sata works fine in my emacines i think IDE PATA sucks cocks

sata rocks!! ide pata sucks cocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "whats up guys its fuckyyy" LOL :P

  • um heyyy guys im building a new computer but im having trouble trying to find an optical drive. I dont know what op drive to buy. Maybe u guys could tell me?? my motherboard is GA-790XTA-UD4

  • LOL Synchronized swimming? good shit

  • @bigdaddyblackful if your motherboard and the optical drive then you can :D

  • @bigdaddyblackful

    The two are completely different,

  • You can get like blue ray but who needs it on a computer? few do.

And again. as he says dont go all crazy on the Ram. Like i got 4gbs now and i cant se myself upgrading to 8 just yet even that 12gbs is possible with windows 7 64bits.

4gbs of ram is fine for hardcore gaming. so unless ur going to be editing video footage from HD Camcorders with AVCHD formates.

  • the x58 motherboards will take 24gb of ram

x64 (xp vista and win7 64bit) based operating systems (if you had enough slots and the motherboard was configured) would take up to 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 GB (18.4 exabytes)

  • Most moniters above 22" are high def, so a blu-ray drive makes a lot of sense if you want to watch blu-ray on your PC.

Personally, I would never deream of buying one, but I can see why some people would.

  • Yea everyone. This is from 2008. But you really learn alot from it. Just keep in mind that some of the numbers is a bit higher now. like 1 gb of ram is shitty. get 2 for poor or 4 for normal or 8gbs for a good computer. and as jdfrt12569 says. Go with SATA DvD Drives now. Cuz the now Windows 7 is out and ye. lot has changes sinse 2008. Most people know, so dont give me no hate. just incase some newbie tries to follow this 100%. Another thing. Get Windows 7 not Vista! Vista is just pure pain!

  • @MatsVidar dude u know that he sold it to someone like long time ago

  • @MatsVidar Or Ubuntu! Open source woo!

  • @MatsVidar so evrything is the same just bigger numbers??

  • @MatsVidar -.- if you have a 32 bit operating system then fuck 8 gigs 4 of it will go to waist, 32 bit operating systems will limit the amout of ram to 4, so yea

  • @fireball31794 doa 64 bit then

  • @MatsVidar All about win7 and XP. Got my gaming comp with XP and my little alienware laptop with win 7 :D

  • @MatsVidar 8GB ram is still pretty much overkill these days unless your video editing ect... 4/6gb is fine for gaming.

  • @MatsVidar so sata or ide?

  • @MatsVidar so i can go with a sata dvd burner/drive now?

  • i cannt find any blu ray /dvd burner combo drives in ide there all sata:@

  • yea since all the HDD/Optical Drive manufacturers has stop using IDE/PATA tranfer cable..

  • @timmy8372

sata is fine...this was made in '08 when sata DVD drives were very bad and had bad drivers, if you have Vista or better SATA is better.

  • read above u

  • blu ray :D

  • Some time has gone since video has been posted. Is it still better to use IDE interface to connect optical drive?

  • I'm pretty sure it's still IDE. Might wanna go to Best BUy and ask the Geek Squad though.

  • @sk8er2859

Geek squad will charge you 85$ per question.

I think IDE is dying out. Just speculating though.

  • @Pokercountry they checked my credit, then called security to escort me out!

  • @Pokercountry Geek squad charges $250 to re install windows 7 from the bootmemu

  • @lebammabel

    SATA is ALOT better now!!!

  • A lot in NOT one word it is a lot not alot

no but seriously is a SATA better

  • most forum say sata is better den ide what to choose?????????

  • SATA has faster transfer speed then IDE/PATA , and btw the SATA cables are much smaller , thus making air flow inside the case more easy

  • @TheXdffg

SATA! SATA! SATA! they are alot better now

  • wow almost everything can make the computer fast

  • yup.....welcome to the 21th century...:)

  • consider a blu-ray drive

  • Nice video but the SATA optical drives are recognized by XP SP3 operating system (I practically installed windows XP SP3 & Windows 7 from an SATA DVD Writer) but perhaps you're talking about an older OS

  • most likely

  • i know why would they sell it if it didnt work IM LIKE SERVICE PACK 3 DUDE UPDATE!

  • great vid man

  • You say get a DVD drive over CD drive, but now there is Blu-ray and HD DvD drives. What do you suggest now?

  • blu-ray.... i though HD-DVD was dead...?

  • In North America that's certaintly true, HD-DVD is still HUGE in Europe/Asia : )

  • well, get blu-ray if you live in north america, HD-DVD if your in europe. xD

  • Meh, when I consider the blu-ray experience on my computer or my tv and seeing that they're the same cost I would still opt for a dvd drive at this point.

There isn't much blu-ray software and almost no games at this point in time, mine as well wait a year for the price to drop. Otherwise it's like $250 wasted on something that will be outdated when actually useful.

  • hd dvd bit the dust a year ago

  • No

Get Blu-Ray no matter what. HD-DVD is dying here as well.

  • Wrong buddy, you can get a cheap DVD optical drive for under $30 and wait for Bluray burners to low its price cause its still useless expensive.

  • Erm, I think you misunderstood my comment, pal. What I meant was that if you have to chose over an HD DVD drive and a Blu-Ray drive, get the BD.

  • Comment removed

  • yea same here sata is always better! never go with pata, idem and for the love of god no FLOPPIES!

  • i disagree with that.. i would go with a SATA drive...

Better cable management and better all together

  • yea but you can pick them up for about 25$ at cheapest just in case

  • well i watched the hard drive tutorial and now this one ......i think you think your smarter than you actually are.

X24 X20 X16.......lol go read what it says on the box
