I have a thought about why a soap opera aired instead of Wheel on Dec. 26. Back then a lot of College Football Bowl Games aired in syndication so it's possible that either WXIA aired the soap opera early and then aired the college bowl game or NBC possibly had a sporting event that they were televising later and decided to air the soap instead of Wheel of Fortune, just a thought.
I knew the 1st puzzle, but when trying to accumulate more money, I hit Bankrupt. Danny solved that. Then the 2nd one I got, but the 3rd went to Danny, he went to the bonus round, but failed to win the Tahiti trip
Hey Tom, I was wondering if you noticed how much more popular the letter "P" was in several of these shows you uploaded. It seems like the letter was called a lot earlier than other popular letters. Oh yeah, and I was curious, did you talk to any of these 3 contestants at all?
Nah, didn't really notice the letter P. But R,S,T,L,N, and E always seemed to be picked in the bonus round, guess that's why "Wheel" decided to just give a player those letters by default later.
As for these 3, Ian I did talk to some during briefing, we both knew the show inside and out. We were ready to clean house, but of course we didn't. Paula was dang cute, but I was too shy to really talk with her.
Was it the last episode of "Search for Tomorrow" that aired in Wheel's place? I don't know because I turned five months old the day this episode aired, as I was born July 25, 1986. All I know is the last episode of "Search for Tomorrow" aired the same day the final episode of Teen Week from the 1986-1987 season was supposed to air.
I dunno...Irish temper got the best of him I suppose. Guess he was hoping someone at programming realized they hit the wrong button and should've been playing "Wheel". But it was nice he stood up for me.
I doubt the daytime version would have survived, even if Pat had stayed on, but I guess we will never know. Although I never understood how the show could be number 1 consistently, year after year, in syndication, and the daytime version did not survive.
It may have had something to do with fewer daytime viewers (most of us graduated teens go to college these days), but the SLOW game play may have played a factor when the syndicated version switched to cash.
The daytime show did the same in '89, but the prizes were cheap. Even now, Wheel isn't getting viewers like it used to in syndication since more people are either commuting home from work to recording it for later viewing.
Ian's wearing almost exactly what I wore when I auditioned.

The best thing WOF did day/night was remove the BIG WHEEL theme and replace it with MERV's theme/

So glad you didn't put in that goofy NBC "in color" intro.

I heard from someone that it's probably the Search for Tomorrow finale. I guess they preempted Wheel of Fortune to make room for the extension.
Hondo20132 2 years ago
I guess that's possible too
Nickle98499 2 years ago
@Hondo20132
But why preempt it instead of the soap opera, and not show the preempted WOF episode at a later time?

Topmxconn, how far did you get in that tournament?
D32007 3 years ago
See 12/22/86. I got 1 puzzle, but should've won 2. Didn't go to the bonus round.
tomxconn 3 years ago
What do you mean, should've won 2? Are you saying you knew another one but didn't get to guess?

A red velvet jacket, Pat? That's rare.

Do you remember Tom what podiums each of the contestants were on the finals game?
MimsFamilyGang 3 years ago
I know it was Victor, Valerie and Tracey, but I don't call what order.
tomxconn 3 years ago
Just the final bonus puzzle, EARPHONES. Tracey lost out on the Renault.

Hey Tom do you remember the puzzles from the finals episode to?

I'm not surprised that the last episode wasn't aired. NBC does seem to have a history of making bad programming decisions.

Maybe a few more years, but probably would've been eaten up by a trashy talk show. How Price has survived that, I don't know, but I'm glad they have.

You think if Pat continued WOF daytime in 1989 instead of Rolf, this version would've continued to this da?
nextbarker 4 years ago
Actually, I'm guessing if they would have thought to hire Bob Goen in the first place for daytime instead of Rolf, NBC may not have cancelled it.
