@georgey85 ur. Write the cabinets the problem as wel as in the cabinet its circulating the hot air back to the intake vents witch is horrible for the xbox aswell ...clearly he needs to relocate the consle
its louder becuase of the whisper fan pushes out 58% more air. the sound is not coming from the xbox but from the air pushing out of the cabinet. make a better vent for you cabinet and it will take care of the problem
I guarantee you that these fans work, however over time the inside of your xbox including your fans will accumulate dust which makes your Xbox 360 90% louder, No fan can fix that! I recommend every 6-12 months you open your 360 and clean out the dust as much as possible, This will also boost the performance of your xbox believe it or not. I recommend using a can of ultra duster or any other can of pressurized air you can find at local stores like walmart
@2010ShadowMaster2011 maybe the latest model of the fans is better and you might be running your games from the hard drive? that wasn't possible when this video was made.

@w8t2009 no I used the original fans. However I have move my 360 to another room an use a 10m HDMI cable instead, that way it doesnt matter how loud the fans get.
theres not much point in getting the whisper max fan if you not gonna get a clear case or window in your 360 and to try and make the fans quieter you should get little round foam sound supressers about 2- 3 mm thick and just peel the paper backing off each side

you need to raise your xbox off the surface by using dvd cases under the rubber feet on the bottom. if you notice how hot it gets under the xbox you would prop it up so air can go under. also your xbox is in a confined place bad for over heating to. try downloading most of your common played games so i runs off the hard drive instead using the disk player that makes your xbox hot! playing 1 disk for a couple of hours. well hope this helps (=

All you people who say it is the DVD drive that makes the noice are morons, I fix xbox 360's for a hobbie and what i can say is that if you ever stripped down the xbox again and unplugged the fans, the xbox would be silent (but will overheat very fast) What i suggest you do is replace the thermal paste underneath the heatsinks (Tutorials ALL over youtube) Then the heat from the processors is transferred easier making the fans cool it off easier. This would make your fans quieter.

@babadoobasha LOL? The disk drive makes almost all the noise the 360 produces. I also fix 360, Ps3, PC's, and from experience i can tell you that the disk drive makes LOTS of noise. If you install the game to your HDD and play it compared to not installing it you make your 360 almost dead silent. Yes replacing the thermal paste will help keep it cool (MS uses shit for thermal paste), along with a few fan shroud modifications and your gold. It really would not make the fans quieter.
My PS3 is about a year old, I've taken it apart theres no dust inside and it still goes into a deafening louder than 360 fans mode from time to time, so your talking out of your ass...and it stinks.

@tehcacti Actually, it doesn't slow down the fans at all. It does reduce noise, however, because it doesn't spin the disc while it's playing, only to detect the game at the begining. In other words, it reduces DVD-ROM noise, not fan noise.
I still find it funny that this guy replaced his fans with louder ones. At least it warns people like me from buying these fans....hahaha.
If you turn it around, from the position you had it, it will be much much quieter. That little area is very hot, making the fans work harder to push the warm air out. You should move it to somewhere where the air can circulate easier... Also, installing the game to the HD makes it quieter
any body getting 2 red lights is an easy fix, just remove the hdd, the and the front panel and then the 2 side panels, and give the grails a good cleaning.
You can get a queit case from quietpc, its about 80 quid. that should make a big difference. you can get sound proofing material u can cut to shape from quiet PC or even Maplins and cover the cdrom drive with that. gud luck!

i looked up how to make the xbox 360 quieter and it said the same thing and they said to download the game to the hard drive and it will help but it still has the fans running which i think is making it loud which sucks.
I had the same problem. Your fans are running at full speed because your X360 thinks it's running too hot. Strangely, the fans are controlled by the ANA/HANA chip (search xbox-scene's forums for schematics). I fixed this by carefully blasting the chip with a heat gun to reflow the solder on the chip's pins (i.e. one of the pins has a cold solder joint). Then I put a Fry's heat sink on it with thermal tape for a few dollars. Turned it on and my fans now behave correctly (no longer noisy!)

yeah mostly its the disk drive.. like at first when i got the xbox and played a game with one of those "stealthy scenes", the fan [disk drive] was incredibly loud and i was like wtf... then i found out about installing games to the hard drive and it just became so much quieter. Games also run smoother, for example the game doesnt even freeze due to scratches and stuff if you have it installed.
The hotter the Xbox is, the harder it will blow... The Xbox is designed to push the hot air out; from inside the Xbox, through the fan, and out the back... Where is all that hot air going??? Nowhere, it surrounds the Xbox in that cubbyhole which defeats the purpose of the fan... Open area dude...
I agree with laskov93; its definitely the CD drive. although the fans the machine comes with is noisy.. 70% of the noise i reckon is that cd drive.. just pop yours out and see!. (the cd disk anyway, not anything else. ew.) Of course you could always just save the game to the hard drive and store the disks in a place for a rainy day to solve that problem (:

Every console, wii ps3 xbox360 has new parts, mostly 360 but ps 3 runs hot aswell so it is vital for the condition of your console not to stuck it in a fucking drawer, put it on a top of your table just make sure its got space around it
Also wanted to say the way you have your X-Box 360 in a small confined space like that is a good way to help it heat up way to quickly and will make the fans run way more often thus putting alot of wear and tear on the fans making them louder in the long run. I just keep my X-Box 360 in an open space with 3 sides plus the fan side open to the air & you shouldn't have a problem I have had mine since launch & it's still working & the noise doesnt bother me because I'm 8 feet away from TV & my X-Box 360 is right next to it on a end table in the open breathing freely. Also have it linked to my computers hard drive that helps alot fan doesnt have to run because disc doesn't have to be in use all the time. The X-Box 360 stays quieter & alot more cooler.
Someone help me, I'm not sure what happens but, when I am on the Xbox dashboard my Xbox is fine but when I play something it gets pretty loud, not unbearably loud but my friend's Xboxs don't do it. Also if it's a DVD it's not as loud as a game.

Its the DVD drive making the noise im pretty sure of it. Got an Elite with a BenQ drive and the 360 is so much quiter then my newer revision arcade console with a liteon drive.
Actually if he would of also left the silver metal casing off probably would of been quieter. Alos more ventilation would help to. Leave it in an open area for a day or 2 while you play. It will get cool air in it besides the hot air coming off of everything.
well if you have a modded 360 meaning it was broken but you fixed it then i doubt you would get the RROD but if you NEVER had it broken before then there might be a slight chance but that is all up to you.

@SgtSLice PS3 is shite, doesnt support VGA support...which technicially makes it "not support all HD" and you have to put a £50 HDfury which has 50% chance of working, Blu-ray runs slower than DVD's so the loading times on PS3 are LONGER! proven! 6mb/s on PS3, 9MB/s on Xbox.
game developers such as Valve dont make games for PS3! no left for dead :/
The updates do take ages

@tehcacti Actually, it doesn't slow down the fans at all. It does reduce noise, however, because it doesn't spin the disc while it's playing, only to detect the game at the begining. In other words, it reduces DVD-ROM noise, not fan noise.
I still find it funny that this guy replaced his fans with louder ones. At least it warns people like me from buying these fans....hahaha.

If you turn it around, from the position you had it, it will be much much quieter. That little area is very hot, making the fans work harder to push the warm air out. You should move it to somewhere where the air can circulate easier... Also, installing the game to the HD makes it quieter

You can get a queit case from quietpc, its about 80 quid. that should make a big difference. you can get sound proofing material u can cut to shape from quiet PC or even Maplins and cover the cdrom drive with that. gud luck!

My Xbox is 3 Years old today, and It is very quiet, I have just got the 2 red lights, and the Xbox is VERY well ventilated. and I think the Fan's are starting to fail, Would you say that this is a good fan that I could use to replace the factory fans? I'm not bothered about the noise, as long as the fan does it's job.

i looked up how to make the xbox 360 quieter and it said the same thing and they said to download the game to the hard drive and it will help but it still has the fans running which i think is making it loud which sucks.

I had the same problem. Your fans are running at full speed because your X360 thinks it's running too hot. Strangely, the fans are controlled by the ANA/HANA chip (search xbox-scene's forums for schematics). I fixed this by carefully blasting the chip with a heat gun to reflow the solder on the chip's pins (i.e. one of the pins has a cold solder joint). Then I put a Fry's heat sink on it with thermal tape for a few dollars. Turned it on and my fans now behave correctly (no longer noisy!)

no your 360 is supposed to be in a more open space so the air / heat isn't trapped to cause red ring of death or an over heat it will be louder if its trapped in small space trust me i went a lot with microsoft and there starting to piss me off

yeah mostly its the disk drive.. like at first when i got the xbox and played a game with one of those "stealthy scenes", the fan [disk drive] was incredibly loud and i was like wtf... then i found out about installing games to the hard drive and it just became so much quieter. Games also run smoother, for example the game doesnt even freeze due to scratches and stuff if you have it installed.

The hotter the Xbox is, the harder it will blow... The Xbox is designed to push the hot air out; from inside the Xbox, through the fan, and out the back... Where is all that hot air going??? Nowhere, it surrounds the Xbox in that cubbyhole which defeats the purpose of the fan... Open area dude...

I agree with laskov93; its definitely the CD drive. although the fans the machine comes with is noisy.. 70% of the noise i reckon is that cd drive.. just pop yours out and see!. (the cd disk anyway, not anything else. ew.) Of course you could always just save the game to the hard drive and store the disks in a place for a rainy day to solve that problem (:

Also wanted to say the way you have your X-Box 360 in a small confined space like that is a good way to help it heat up way to quickly and will make the fans run way more often thus putting alot of wear and tear on the fans making them louder in the long run. Hope this helps any of you who may be experiencing this problem with the loud fan or constant running fan issues or the over heating issues. Happy gaming mates ! I hope this helps some of you out.

I just keep my X-Box 360 in an open space with 3 sides plus the fan side open to the air & you shouldn't have a problem I have had mine since launch & it's still working & the noise doesnt bother me because I'm 8 feet away from TV & my X-Box 360 is right next to it on a end table in the open breathing freely. Also have it linked to my computers hard drive that helps alot fan doesnt have to run because disc doesn't have to be in use all the time. The X-Box 360 stays quieter & alot more cooler.

Someone help me, I'm not sure what happens but, when I am on the Xbox dashboard my Xbox is fine but when I play something it gets pretty loud, not unbearably loud but my friend's Xboxs don't do it. Also if it's a DVD it's not as loud as a game.

Its the DVD drive making the noise im pretty sure of it. Got an Elite with a BenQ drive and the 360 is so much quiter then my newer revision arcade console with a liteon drive.

Actually if he would of also left the silver metal casing off probably would of been quieter. Alos more ventilation would help to. Leave it in an open area for a day or 2 while you play. It will get cool air in it besides the hot air coming off of everything.

well if you have a modded 360 meaning it was broken but you fixed it then i doubt you would get the RROD but if you NEVER had it broken before then there might be a slight chance but that is all up to you.
