Good score, terrible movie. The best example of a movie which belittles and dehumanizes indigenous peoples in favor of raising up the "civilized" Europeans as their saviors.
@Birdmanigan - um i think that is the point of the film - it is highly critical of the Europeans both the Catholic church and the colonists. Yes plenty of the evil characters try to dehumanise the Guarani, but the Irons and De Niro characters do not they both turn against their European background to fight for the Guarani. The church missons gave refuge to the Guarani from slavers and plantation owners. Still today here the memory of the missions is held in respect by these peoples
@LatinAmericaStudios I'm not denouncing the character's efforts to help the Guarani, I'm denouncing the film its self. The movie essentially makes the Guarani into furniture. They hardly speak, and when they do we never know what they are saying. They are only in the film so the Europeans have something to "save".
@Blashada In a nutshell: In trying to convert the "barbabrian" indians to Christianity, the politics (of the church and the colonial powers driven by the church) demonstrated that they were worse barbarians themselves. At the end, when the dust settles, the (surviving) children have the option of picking up a volin or a crucifix from the river. Guess which one they choose?
The thing that I love the most about this movie's soundtrack is that it really captures the idea that music is the universal language. It makes the message of unity in the movie that much stronger.
We groomed the mountain lion. Afterward, in appreciation of his grooming, he licked us clean. Then we resolved to spend the day together so we could all watch the sunset.
For many years I have loved this track and always imagined myself walking down the aisle to the man of my dreams, I have waited 37 years and the time has now arrived! =)
@TheBikerbabe73 wow really you waited 37 years and u finally found the man of your dream wow i hope i don't wait that long i think all bury myself in my work if i wait that long hehe
For many years I have imagined myself walking down the aisle with this music playing to the man I will marry, I have waited for 37 years and now that time has arrived :-)))
It amazes me how so many people see Europeans as greedy and cruel and native Americans (north, central and south) as sweet innocent victims. Many Native Americans where plenty vicious and brutal unfortunately for them they failed to control the illegal immigration and lost control of their home land and then their culture Kind of like now how Americans have become weak and stupid and diversity orientated and our politicians ignore and even encourage illegal immigration to day.
Ennio Morriconi is a genius but the film was great and the idiots did not realise what a good film this was. I am sure the native americans of south america will watch this film in the future and realise that some Europeans were not the greedy bastards that destroyed their culture.
But they (begin me as well) did, but the Jesuits were one of the few that tried to save those people, and the only way to do that would be to make Christians out of them, other wise, the Portuguese would kill them, or make slaves out of them. But in this history, as in many others, even that didn't succeed. This movie is telling us how cruel we were at that time, (witch was mostly because people were told that the Indians were animals) to those Indians, in N- and S- America.
I love this music I have only ever seen the ending of this movie never seen this movie the whole way through so annoying I have heard this movie is a fantastic movie to watch.
@linuso1988 I'll second that, man. Well said. Courteous and decent. I'd like to promote at every opportunity such sentiments and down with the venomous sniping that you encounter half the time instead. Up with nice!
Am I the only one who hears this song in The Lion King's theme?
