I'm British,and think both cars are pig ugly,there is no way either car is worth that ridiculous price tag.Before any pip-squeak starts squawking,I do ok with work etc,but no way would spend that much on a car.These cars are made for people who have not had to work hard for their money,easy come,easy go.
This is what a Rolls Royce should be; stately yet classy and not overly ostentatious. Sadly, the same can't be said for the current Phantom family and Ghost.

The main difference between the Bimmer and the Roller is that the Roller is a timeless design, more like a stately manorial home, the Bimmer, is more of a rotting old shed.

German ownership just gives an image of Efficiency and mechanical superioririty, in reality that aint true German cars are not particulary reliable or mechanically superior, its all image in my opinion. For me the Japs are the best, the only Germannic car i would have would be a Veyron but thats unlikely so Jap all the way for me.

@KPKaccountt Well the effectiveness of the Jap cars i have owned is second to none they get me where i want to go and back again without any drama, have owned Hondas , Nissans, Toyota and i can honestly say i have never once had a mechanical failure or been stranded. I know a few owners of German cars and they have all had problems I would say a Mechanical failure on a German car says it lacks the effectiveness of it image. I stick to my view that people buy German because of perceived image.

You will find that in many German marques they use Japanese or Chinese techical wizzardry, in the 90's in the US the American manufacturers were so scared of the success of Jap cars they did deals with them to utilise their expertise, the Names Mazda and ford come to mind. In the UK the Japs totally wiped out the the car making industry. In German and Scandinavia Jap cars outsell German cars.
@Henzzman actually it was more of financing. And BMw/Volkswagen clamored to buy RR/Bentley and a new rr/bentley sedan was called for. Since RR/Bentley wasnt itching to spend crazy development to minute detail in a buisness section that they have no intentions on staying in, BMW filled in the gaps as they was actually planning on buying RR but Volkswagen pulled a fast one on them. But from what I hear, the BMW powerplants are actually pretty sturdy as is the 6.75. I guess it's a matter or choice.

@bloximonkey Yes they did. I've seen in person 6 examples of 1998-2000 Silver Seraphs/Arnages with factory VHS TV Screens. Some of them were leather flip down screens or dual monitors in front head restraints. Later 6.5 inch DVD Screens are much better of course, as are the ones in our '09 Arnage FS and our '05 Arnage T with shades.
@bloximonkey They did have LCD TVs back then, and in any case you did use to get 'regular' CRT TVs for use in cars (I had a double-DIN Sony on a while back)
I have owned that exact 750iL here, VERY nice car, will be getting another one (2001 though), very nice.... that car was silent inside, not one bit of road noise, and the engine sounded like an aircraft taking off when pulling away..

I don't know why but I have these soft spots when it comes to British cars but not in Rolls Royce in fact, I'd much rather the Bentley Arnage or the new Mulsanne. Can't say the same for the Continental line up though. They're just expensive Volkswagens and I fancy the new Rolls Royce Ghost.

Actually I have driven and been driven in a rented Phantom before but not a SS. Anyways, I never commented about the performance of either car, I just said the Phantom makes the Seraph look so ugly and antique. I know they are fast and quick for their sizes but once again I never said anything performance-wise so I fail to see the point of your comment.
You see, once again your comment doesn't make sense at all. I'm not 19 nor do I work at Rolls Royce, first because the only RR assembly plant is across the Atlantic, in UK. Well I drove one when my buddy's dad rented one for the weekend for $4300. I don't pretend to sound important by saying that, you're just retaliating in a childish and immature manner.
Like hell the Phantom does...... The Silver Seraph is a GORGOUS automobile! I've also driven in it and it rides like a dream as if you were flying a plane! The Phantom looks like a space ship Batmobile where the Seraph looks like a classy luxury car! Totally SEXY!!!!!
@CatcherInTheRye20 BMW has done much better with Rolls Royce than VW did with Bentley or Mercedes with Maybach. The Phantom can't be compared. It's timeless and will not need a redesign for 10 years from first production.
@blab123oida You are right, but VW sold out the Bentley brand. The biggest seller is obviously the Continental GT which costs about $160k, less than half of any RR, and uses many VW/Audi parts including the same engine (but with turbo added) and transmission. I hold Rolls Royce now to be of a higher standard. Maybach is a great car, better engineering than them all. It failed cause it looked like a giant Hyundai and was sold at regular Mercedes dealers.
@DJFG85 hahaha giant Hyundai. Never thought of that, but i like the comparison. Another problem is that in the inside it has way too many elements of the s-class (the old one). At least thats what I think.
I can't blame him for picking the Rolls, I would do the same. My father owns 2 Silver Seraphs, a 1999 and recently just added a 2001 Silver Seraph Park Ward to the collection. Both are beautiful cars, and I love driving them whenever I get the chance. Luckily, I can take this experience and put it up against a BMW. My father also happens to own a 2004 BMW 760Li. Also, a beautiful car and a great driver, but even he has decided to pass it along to my mom and choose both Rolls over it.
In the end, if you can't afford the Rolls, but can afford the BMW, go for it! With the Rolls is a huge MSRP, but behind that is huge history and handcrafted beauty. So if you ever want to really understand the price, realize that it's not all just in the name, but in the quality, limited numbers, and the fact that each one is handmade and will never be exactly like any other.
Prefer to a car that is worth every cent I pay for it and not pay for the name and have a car with the engineering level of a limousine of the 80's I'll go with the BMW no doubt u get quality and every cent is well spend.
Technology doesn't move quite that quickly! The new Rolls completes 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, so it's quicker by just over a second, not 3 seconds!
What's far more interesting is the fact that this Rolls originally cost double the price of a 750iL, in 1998. You can now pick up a 750i from that era for under £2.5K. Utterly worthless. See if you can find a Seraph for £5K! Minimum is around £35K or 14 times the value of the BMW.
this 7 series looks so much better than the current and previous bangle one as well

I don't know why but I have these soft spots when it comes to British cars but not in Rolls Royce in fact, I'd much rather the Bentley Arnage or the new Mulsanne. Can't say the same for the Continental line up though. They're just expensive Volkswagens and I fancy the new Rolls Royce Ghost.

Actually I have driven and been driven in a rented Phantom before but not a SS. Anyways, I never commented about the performance of either car, I just said the Phantom makes the Seraph look so ugly and antique. @blab123oida You are right, but VW sold out the Bentley brand. The biggest seller is obviously the Continental GT which costs about $160k, less than half of any RR, and uses many VW/Audi parts including the same engine (but with turbo added) and transmission. I hold Rolls Royce now to be of a higher standard. Maybach is a great car, better engineering than them all. It failed cause it looked like a giant Hyundai and was sold at regular Mercedes dealers.

I can't blame him for picking the Rolls, I would do the same. My father owns 2 Silver Seraphs, a 1999 and recently just added a 2001 Silver Seraph Park Ward to the collection. Both are beautiful cars, and I love driving them whenever I get the chance. Luckily, I can take this experience and put it up against a BMW. My father also happens to own a 2004 BMW 760Li. Also, a beautiful car and a great driver, but even he has decided to pass it along to my mom and choose both Rolls over it.

In the end, if you can't afford the Rolls, but can afford the BMW, go for it! With the Rolls is a huge MSRP, but behind that is huge history and handcrafted beauty. So if you ever want to really understand the price, realize that it's not all just in the name, but in the quality, limited numbers, and the fact that each one is handmade and will never be exactly like any other.

Technology doesn't move quite that quickly! The new Rolls completes 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, so it's quicker by just over a second, not 3 seconds!
What's far more interesting is the fact that this Rolls originally cost double the price of a 750iL, in 1998. You can now pick up a 750i from that era for under £2.5K. Utterly worthless. See if you can find a Seraph for £5K! Minimum is around £35K or 14 times the value of the BMW.
