Man, I need to see this again. Definitely in my top five horrors of all time. With black leopards, David Bowie, New Orleans, Malcolm McDowell and Nastassja Kinski and a kinky werecat-themed plot, how could it go wrong? It doesn't.
wow I remember seeing this originally, scared me to death THEN, but now it's hardly as scary anymore, weird how that happens, huh? Thanks for the favorite that lead me here, and to the uploader for the work.
@gmj2012 Why would you be scared? My current female cat could cut my throat at any point of her choosing. She chooses not and I would trust that cat with my very life. Girl worries over me when I'm not here. Her name remains SHADOW. A stray that just showed up? She is black, baby panther she is. Cats are not scary? Can they kill you? Yes. She has actually had her claws 1 mm from my jugular vein and purred. Think I trust human with a blade to my throat?
@superunt43 This movie was made to be scary, to make us look at our pets in a new way. The creepy quotient, that they attacked and killed people in this movie perhaps? I've had cats (and all sorts of animals, work in animal rescue too) all my life, it still got to me as was its purpose to do so.
@gmj2012 Don't get it, do you? Pets? NO. Other species who choose to make friends with a human is not a pet? Cats and dogs are mammals, so are we. Humans are animals. And yes I know the religious horse-shit. Yadda yadda yadda.
@superunt43 Obviously you DON'T get it, or are confusing movies with reality. The movie is fiction, in real life domesticated animals do not kill humans. They have been domesticated over centuries to breed the wild out of them, to serve as pets or farm animals or food. I'm not saying I agree with those actions, they are just the facts. The movie was turning that reality inside out to make us fear the animals we normally wouldn't & it has zip to do with religion or whether a pet is wild or not.
@MmeLEnfer then you should watch A Clockwork Orange if you haven't yet. That was epic as well. Malcom as Alex DeLarge and his ultraviolent droogs getting drugged up and raising literal hell upon unsuspecting souls...........absolutely LOVE that movie
@7outof9gone I have. I've seen a couple of his movies. Cat People is still my fave, because I'm a horror fan, but I love Clockwork to bits. He's extremely charismatic an actor. I also like the Raging Moon a lot, he was great in that.
@MmeLEnfer This is why the Tube is fun-I've never heard of Raging Moon-will be looking for it. Thanks! And-excellent on lovin the Clockwork-my daughter doesnt understand my love for it actually-brace yourself-called it a horrible movie and how could I like it? I questioned if she was really my daughter. She said she agreed.
@7outof9gone He's not a killer in it, but he is badass. It's a 'quieter' movie I guess, but I'd watch him act in anything. Does she have a reason for disliking Clockwork?
Interesting thing I just remembered - David Bowie who does the theme song here, when he was in his Ziggy Stardust formative years he was hugely inspired by Malcolm in A Clockwork Orange. He took a lot of clothing ideas from it - boilersuits with boots and makeup, only he made the suits patterned and bright.
@MmeLEnfer hey, fellow follower of Malcolm-I hope all is well. I don't mind if he's quieter in it, I will be sure to find it and I thank you for pointing it out. As for my daughter she just thinks its too violent (haha) and "fucked up". Hard to believe she's mine sometimes. Even comedy she doesnt have her Mom's love-she doesnt like Monty Python-*arg*! Says she doesnt get it. WTF? Bowie & McDowell together is def heaven and this song along with the movie showed that. Have a horrowshow day!!!
@7outof9gone Yup! Just dl'd Cat People actually. Haha. Np, you're welcome. The concept of ACO is violent I grant you, but much on tv is as violent nowadays. It still packs a punch though, because of the callous characters. How can you not 'get' Monty Python?
I've been a Bowie fan for a while, why I watched this in the first place (I thought he did the whole score) so Malcolm's (and even moreso Nastassja's) acting took me by surprise. They both really sell the werepanther deal, imho
@MmeLEnfer hey! hope all is well....been in hosp for a while. Just got back last week but not up the *snuff* yet. I dont know why my daughter doesnt get Monty, I assume its because she doesnt grasp the ironic. Hopefully that will change. It's good for the soul. Have a lovely.
Powerful song... This is such a fucking beautiful movie. It's a little sad Paul and Irena didn't link up though, they seemed pretty right for each other in a way. Werecat sibs ftw <3
One of the most memorable 'horror' films I have ever seen.... haunting with that evocative Moroder score and Bowie's vocal on the theme, "Putting Out Fire". Particular emphasis on Annette O'Toole's swimming pool scene... very creative sequence there! I have never seen her look better!
Thats not the opening music for the film... its just got him humming the theme, and this has the movie music and soundtrack running out of sync under it.
cat people is an erotic reworking of the 40's classic thriller, here imbued with rampant nudity,a synth score by giorgio moroder, plus excellent visuals that depict the ancient desert landscape of long ago, those skeletal remains in the sand are sensual
She loved him and even tried to protect him and he was captivated by her exotic beauty, but in the end, they were too different. He did understand her wild and mysterious nature. So he went back to the pretty red head who wasn't so exciting, but at least she was human!
bullshit! cats are way too much better to mix with religious shit of christ. In this movie, paul gallier was into that stuff because it was the only way that he could keep his thing out of a pussy and still ... he had his fun killing and fucking.
Well, Maybe you should stop searching online. Especially since the animal commonly known as a "black panther" is really a melanistic leopard or jaguar.
no shitting? my cat loves it too (she ingores a bit the movie but the music kind of inspires her to sleep, play or sit to listen while she purrs), well that and VAS music.
It took three minutes before I recognized that the song, although theme of the movie, isn`t in the original movie during the opening sequence. Amazing how it fits!!^^
