  • The Spartans winning against Athens is like the Muslim world winning a war against Western civilization.

  • @patrick112590 Or creationist evangelicals winning over scientists.

  • @intestinomedicino Indeed. Or hipsters winning out over us normal people.

  • @intestinomedicino hardely..

  • @intestinomedicino

Didn't take long for the haters to come out I see...

  • @patrick112590 how could you compare the spartans to muslims, thats pathetic.

  • @NIKers96 You obviously know nothing about Islam.

  • @patrick112590 Yes, obviously.Obviously know nothing of Spartans or Athenians. since they were both Greek city-states, the Western world v Islamic world does not suit. As islam will Not dominate the world with it's pathetic Religous doctrine and homophobic attitude, As Spartans did win against Athens, if anything It should be Richard Dawkins/Christopher Hitchens(if he was still alive) v 10 religous nutjobs in a debate over ethics and morality.Who are you to judge what i know?

  • @patrick112590 (added to other reply) Spartans differentiate from muslims in manyways, they were not homophobic, nor were they so intolerant of other peoples doctrines, most Greeks were polytheistic, Muslims are not as that is the biggest sin in islam "shirk" ,I am athiest but i do try to find out about religous arguments and doctrines to better argument against them when in a debate. btw how would me saying comparing muslims to spartans pathetic lead to knowing nothing of islam

  • @NIKers96 Ahh, I see. I thought you were making the reverse argument, that Islam doesn't compare to Sparta in terms of barbarism. I'm so used to hearing nice things about Islam from ignorant people that I assumed you were one of them.

    You have my apologies. :)

  • @patrick112590 haha, it's ok. ;)

  • THIS...IS...SPAAAARRRTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

    300 reference! xD

  • Clive Anderson tries hard to be funny but it just doesn't work somehow.

  • Well Spartan soldiers were also gay so....

  • @darthvaderyoda That shouldn't make much of a difference. You probably still wouldn't taunt one if you saw one rushing towards you brandishing a sword and screaming at the top of his lungs. "Oh, you sure you can handle that thing, sailor?" SCHWACK!

  • @darthvaderyoda The Spartans weren't gay in the sense that we think of it. It was not uncommon in many Greek City States, and in Sparta in particular, for an adult male or warrior to have a younger "companion". The relationship was not just sexual, though it did involve that. It was a mentoring relationship, with the older man expected to provide a role model and see to the younger man's education in how to be a good citizen.

  • Spartans: The First Scenesters.

  • @gotbannedbefore Totally agree. Especially the way Stephen says it in the video! Soft, yet menacing...

  • Be honest...Which frightens you more?

    "THIS IS SPARTAAAA!"

    or

    "If..."

    O_O

  • @PassTheMarmalade1957 i would say if, it shows a kind of mystery to it. Makes a uncertain atmosphere something i would imagine you do not want leading up to a battle

  • @gotbannedbefore but thats just my opinion :P

  • I want a QI Star Trek special, because that would be epic.

    No, I don't have a girlfriend.

  • "If"

    ...

The spartans were pretty cool fuckers xD

  • @GlophTheweb not bad for a bunch of hide-bound, baby killing morons

  • Lakonic...

    it means taking your time...

    with your answer...

  • who's the american?

  • @chuckles222 He's Rich Hall. He shows up in a couple different QI episodes.

  • IF...AMAZING

  • It was Philip II who sent the envoy to Sparta, to which they replied if. Not the Athenians. (student of Greece away!)

  • "bothered"

    I don't get it.

  • @SpazzyMcGee1337 British slang meaning "I'm not bothred" as in "I don't care"

  • @Daleksaresupreme1 "Bothered" is slang for "I'm not bothered"? So if a friend mentions to me how loud my neighbor is I would say "bothered"?

  • @SpazzyMcGee1337 yeah you could use it like that or if a teacher was trying to get a teenager to pay attention in school by telling that if they dont they will fail the kid would say "Bothered" tell ya what look up a women called Catherine tate (a very rare species the now indangered "funny female comedian") she started it off

  • Did anyone know that the Latin word for 'scabbard' is "vagina"?

VERY handily placed vagina you have there sir...

  • "before ya answer' and 'bothered.' summarises like, everything I love and hold dear about this show. :3

  • 300 is a movie based on a comic based on a movie based on a historical event where a bunch of proto-fascist pederast from a militarist oligarchy fighting against a large multi-cultural empire.

  • @WhimsicalQuandary Historical events can be seen three points of view. i.e, Cid Campeador & Charlemagne are great Western heroes who drove Muslim invaders off Western Europe... for the Muslim world they are not heroes, and described as murderers and rogues. The third one, usually the best of all, is to realise that neither were the evil side, rather, with different interests and goals that they deemed as good.

  • "If" XD sexy fucking beasts

  • "yeah bovvered" is 2 words

  • @blondemario he said yeah to stephen...

  • @spartanses I know. :)

  • 2:32 "Or Daleks", not so much Alan. Sontarans.

  • @Pikoble Because of course the Daleks are known for their artisanship...

Both the Daleks and Sontarans are warrior races in the Doctor Who universe, Alan just chose the better known race.

  • Dlaeks ruling the universe 0.0 *runs away*

  • lol spartans are super saiyans

  • In French, Laconic is still very commonly used to describe an answer that's not very detailed...

Usually "Giving a laconic" answer is considered making fun of one's opponent...

That hasn't changed since the Spartans...

  • Is the word "laconic" not used much in the UK? It comes up alot in older American literature to describe people who talked like cowboys.

  • @ryukXsayu27 Nope it's not - well not that I've ever heard of ... strange how some things change and some don't :)

  • @MsFannyAdams Yeah, it's used quite a lot, Laconic sense of humour = witty and sarcastic.

  • @spackhollogay I know what it means, he asked if the word 'Laconic' is used ... I said it isn't. Which it aint, not in any circles I've been in. But I guess it's all different.

  • Clive's haircut dialog is hilarious.

  • @Sboy200 No.

  • @Sboy200 I think you need a dictionary more than likes.

  • "if" god, those Spartans must of had balls like grapefuits....

  • "Word has it that the Athenians turned you down....now if those philosophers and boy lovers found that courage...well....we Spartans have our reputation to consider....."

  • @fowzie777 where is that from?

  • After all this about Spartans cutting their hair before mercilessly killing everyone, and seeing a Spartan stark naked in a field of battle, the next suggested video is "White People Have Gotten Less Crazy" xD

  • Rich...

    Wrong.

  • I swear Rich Hall is one of the most random and funny people out there.

  • omg, still love that reply, bothered i like, but the quote "IF"... is amazing, so merciless, so witty

  • Wasn't very logical for the Athenians to send that letter. The Spartans showed far more intelligence in their single word reply.

  • @RCTPatriot75 Macedonians.

  • I nearly orgasmed when I heard Stephen Fry reference Star Trek, I mean it doesn't get much better then that.

  • .............bothered.

    LOL

  • @jaketubedeja I think Alan is mentally spelling it 'bovvered', as in Catherine Tate.

  • @jaketubedeja bovvered

  • Boris John the Spartan

  • @NowRahRiver I've always suspected this!

  • @NowRahRiver *Johnson. Or perhaps I was also making a Demolition Man reference 2 months ago.

No, I think it was just an annoying mistake.

  • Rich: Who's gonna notice your haircut with your junk hanging out like that?

Stephen Fry: I've never heard "junk" before...
