Blow up a modern set, it would be pulverized on the first attempt. I think that is saying something about how well engineered that stuff was compared to today.
Well don't worry, I did read the video description so I know that you did this over 30 years ago. Out of interest, what exactly did you do to the TV to cause that reaction (I don't require actual instructions, just to be clear as I've no intention of trying this my self)
@400sean As has been said in these comments before.... This video was made nearly 30 YEARS AGO.. The T.V. was not "vintage" back then... If you wrecked a 57 Chevy in 1957 you were not destroying a classic car.. just a car.. get over it.
in case you all didnt know 1983 is over a century ago so that set was rare 20 years is a century so count back to 83 and tell me if its not old heck you cant even find a motor from 83 anymore unless you get it new or from a slavage yard which could be bad not any good unless you know the person
thats stupid and dangerous your playing with fire and asking to get burned doing that stuff as stated its ignorant as well you could of got some money for it like cash for clunkers that program is stupid i hate cash for clunkers perfectly goood cars and or engine people could be using a saw a perfectly good 350 i could of used a while back on cash for clunkers mi mean who would know they sold me the motor besides me i would of used it people just do the most damned ignorant stuff
my old friends tried popping an old computer screen and all this chemical came spraying out(the old green tubes after i parted computer out) dangerous shit back in the day
shit i would have taken that tv...y do you blow up wintage tvs??if you dont like them,you could sell,they are very rare,them for a high price bc they are very rare.
Actually, very few vintage TV's are worth money. This particular set looks like a 60's black-and-white console, in which case it would be totally worthless today. It's a shame, because sets like these should be preserved. I have buildings full of vintage TV's like this and older, and they'll probably just end up in the landfill someday.
@packrat79 Like where are at??? I save old console stereos from the landfill I would like a couple of old vintage tvs myself. I am saving quite a few CRT monitors cause CRTS may be the thing of the past. I like CRT monitors better than the LCDs
i broke the screen on our old tubed T.V. and then it made a sound like gas was comming out of it then the screen started cracking more. Was that like gass or something or just like compresed air? Please reply
That is a '67 or '68 Zenith color set. I have one and it works fine. Too bad this one met it's demise, but is was a long time ago when these were much more common.
we have an old tv made by G.E., and it is an old tube type before they came out with solid state circuit board and it still works, we decided to wrap it up with shrink wrapper and put it in a box and put it in the attic, them things could be worth a lot of money, never know
Hope Gary Glitter's face was on the screen when it BLEW UP!

@TheMrbum ... The TV did not do that by itself.. we removed all of the guts and put in explosives.
tvengineer8 6 months ago
@tvengineer8 That makes sense. I wondered if there was some sort of reaction or modification. Well now I know. Thanks.

Id do this to a plasma tv before i'd do it to one of these

Blowing up these TVs back then is NO BIG DEAL!! CRTs back then was very common. Nowadays CRTS are slowly getting rare.

THe tubes are under a partial vacuum.. the sound was air rushing IN to the tube.
tvengineer8 3 years ago 4
the thought they had a perfect vacuum so the electrons can go as fast as possible
desertman123 2 years ago
@tvengineer8
Actually, you are wrong. It is the gas & the toxins escaping into the air when the cathode ray tube explodes.
josifdcooper 1 year ago
@tvengineer8 Total vacuum, not partial.

I have a question.
When a TV explodes is the smoke poisonous or hazardous at all?
kikihord 3 years ago
most of the smoke you see was from magnisium powder that we had mixed in the explosive...
tvengineer8 3 years ago
@kikihord Yes. It can give you Lead Poisoning.
