  • Very true, but a 7L V-8 isn't pushing a 2000 lb car down the drag strip. It evens out I s'pose. I just think it's impressive in its own right to get that kind of power out of an oversized lawnmower engine. And I think they can tune the Honda VTechs to over 600hp. But I digress. Diesels and gasolines... They're just different, Each is awesome in it's own way.

  • i have an 02 dodge with the adrenaline i dont have the 4k tune but it will rev damn close to 4k but when you are reving it up around 2700rpm it starts popping and carrying on and it will damn near hit 3800, any idea what the popping noise is?

  • I'd like to point out that cars have a place and so do trucks. A turbo'd Honda that can run low 11's/high 10's is impressive. A 7000 lb truck that can do the same is even more impressive. By the flip of that same token, 550 HP from a 7L+ diesel is nothing that special. 550 HP from a 1.6L 4 banger is pretty impressive IMO. You can't really compare the two. It's two completly different worlds, each having thier own place. One is not better than the other, just different. Personally, I like both.

  • Obviously you don't know shit about diesel. The effective rpm range on a diesel is about 2200 rpm to 2500 rpm tops. You won't get any power by revving higher than that and it's really bad on the engine.

    I don't recommend anything you're doing to your truck because I can't afford a Cummins diesel so I'm obviously jealous of anyone who owns one. But I can say that you can keep beating the shit out of it and it won't break, because it's a freaking Cummins Turbo Diesel and it's one of the strongest motors in the world.

    Diesels aint about revs. My Benz revs only 4500rpm but it puts way fucking more torque at 1500rpm than my bike ever.

  • Maximum RPM is determined by how fast the fuel will burn. The more PSI you have in your injection system, the more revs you can turn. A diesle engine is no different than a gas engine in that respect. A diesel engine with a 30,000 psi fuel system will easily turn 5K RPM these days.

  • @rstroker530 i wouldnt say that i hopped up 24 valve can throw up so HUGE numbers for torque and HP but IMO reliability is well found in a 12 valve. and cost to fix is a hell of alot cheaper injectors for a 12 are about 75 bucks a piece while 24valves range from 150 up...

  • @9412vpullin rods and bearings are fine in these engines are fine up to 4500+ stock. exhaust valvesprings need to be upgraded to go above 3000 though as well as gov spring kit to even let the fuel pump fuel that high.

    for one a Diesel Engine has much Heavier internal parts to withstand the high compression present in a Diesel Engine....this also lends diesel engines much higher reliability and longer service life's than Petrol Engines.

  • 12 Valves can last a hell of a long time than these 24 Valves can do. The 12's are easier to start, easy to work on, and not that many emissions bullshit. The 1st gens are better and tougher.

It's not like they have robot's droppin' your pistons in and everything is 100% the same in every truck. Im assuming u know nothing about production line work based on the comment...

  • Y'all are comparing a 12valve "mechanical" to a 24valve "electronic" 2 different engines and yes a 12v will spin higher b/c it's all mechanical so nothing will tell it to stop. A 24v has a computer telling it how much fuel to give it every 100ths of a second. It takes a program to let it spin to 4k b/c that's all the fuel it can deliver...research before you bash this guy and make yourselves look like dipshits.

  • @cummins724 My cummins went on at the abbottsford dyno this year, 805HP and 1926 foot pounds. My engine with all that power has well over 100,000 km on it, its my daily driver, theres not even a mass amount of upgrades, just what I need.

  • @prosurfer2222 Try doing some real research, you wanna compare 4 banger to 4 banger fine I will, I have a 1982 Mercedes 240D 5 speed, I reworked the block and added a nice turbo set up running 36psi, 400hp (so you got me there) but I have just under 850 ft.lb tq. Lets see your POS gas engine get that torque while still getting 35mpg. I'll beat your rice rocket any day of the week with real engineering. (gotta love the Germans).

  • @CowsXonXcrack bud... u cant chip a 12v.... however u put injectors,fuel plate, 4gsk kit, silver 66 turbo on them an they will MOVE.... 12v is mechanical... nothins computerized about em...

    i just bought my first 99 cummins, I just to have powerstroke (7.3l only).

    but i really like the cummins..

    it is all stock, but it has fass fuel pump.. it feels that it doesn't pull as hard after 2300 rpms. than lower than that.. but bellow 2300 it pulls very hard..

    what would be the problem..?/ or is it that this engines are like that....

    i would like a tunner, what do you recomend

    (99 cummins 24v, 5 speed manual, 4x4)
