  • Position of a person who nearly got hit by a drunk driver: I agree that drunk driving is a problem but then why not push for draconian DUI policies instead of a blanket law that makes things worse? 2 years in the slammer for the first offense and so on. Even a few months in prison with hardened criminals scares the crap out of most people. Also, we have the laziest BAC limits in the world. Why doesn't MADD get mad about this?

  • Chuck Hurley makes me so mad!!! I don't care what the numbers are. I am 19, and I am a FULL CITIZEN!

    I'm not 1/2 a citizen or 3/5 of a person!

    I am a man!

  • Leave it!!!!!! At 21!!!!!!!! Im 19 and the way i see it drinking is not a right but a privilege.

  • @flawless5197 obviously i kn tell u hve no life n never invited to paries

  • @stud0003 Maybe so, but at least he has an education with a proper grasp of the English language.

  • @flawless5197 A privilege that should be lost by those who abuse it, not by those who most probably never have otherwise. I'm 19 also but I understand our system of law and it says that you cannot punish someone preemptively. the drinking age mandate effectively punishes people that are otherwise adults and have most probably never DUI'd and does not deal with them in the way that laws should. It does not deal with them as individuals and is a form of age discrimination.

  • I always thought they had the drinking age at 21 because of how the body develops. Most people aren't done going threw puberty until they are about 24, 25 and because of that some people think they should raise the drinking age. Drinking effects the development so thats why it's at 21 and not 18 because people always look at it as thats around the time your done developing.

  • I had to pause this at 2 mintuets to say my two cents. First of all the first guest speaker is wrong. I'v seen binge drinkers at bars all the time. Social gatherings with inmature 21 year and 40 year olds acting stupid cause they can't controll their habits. I'm 22 and have a hell of a lot more control then half of the kids my age as well as my co-workers who are twice as old as me.

  • @Brownton4 Second of all, lowering the drinking age wont stop binge drinking behind closed doors. Most of my bars you have to be 18 to enter. Most 18 year olds have little teenage girls that want to get messed up as well. Put 2 and 2 together.

  • the USA is one of only a few countries where 18 year olds cannot drink

  • Disallowing alcohol to a specific class of legal adults, aged 18-20, is state-ordained discrimination worthy of civil disobedience.

  • Ironic that there are 21 Likes. Hahaha!

  • leave the age at 21 or increase it and have harder laws that are inforced

  • FYI the brain does not develope tohandle alchol until the age of 25 this is just facts so if 18-20 year old brains are not developed enough to handle alchol neither is 21-24 yr olds, the point is MADD should not sit there and talk about science being on their side when in fact it is severly against it and in my opinion the drinking age should be 18 in respects to constitutional rights as well as a lot of other reasons, to me it just makes sense 18 all the way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What does lowering the drinking age to 18 have to do with drunk driving? MADD needs to fight drunk driving, this has nothing to do with drunk driving.

  • 18 drinking age. There's be more accidents. Drunk driving.

  • MADD should be combating drunk driving not trying to keep the drinking age where it's at lowering it or trying to raise it they shouldn't be focused on the drinking age.

Lowering the age to 18 might cause a slight increase in accidents but if your 18 and you can join the military and have bullets wiz by your head you should be old enough to have a beer.

  • @IHABC8 According to Europe no there wouldent. Kids who never have alcohol will drink as much as possible when they do get acess because it may be awhile before they get alcohol again. When you can easly get it when ever you want, you wont drink as much, i know from experienece ever since i got a fake id i rarely drink but before that id do as much as possible.

  • @IHABC8

"There's be more accidents" nice grammar

  • so I can join the Marines when I am 17 and yet I cant have a beer? This country doesn't make sense...

  • why are all the people from MADD complete dicks?!

  • @Kurama2377 "why are all the people from MADD complete dicks?!"

Answer: That group mainly consists of over protective lazy cunt soccer moms with too much sand in their pussies.

  • Ok, I'm 18. I can take a bullet, have my nut sack shredded by an IED or decide to drop the hammer on another human being all to protect MADD's neo-Nazi ass Constitutional Rights but I'm not mature enough and my brain hasn't developed to the point I can decide whether to have a drink or not. MADD, I can't think of words strong enough to describe how FUCKED UP YOU PEOPLE ARE. Your organization is destined to disintegrate. GOOD RIDENCE It' people like you that are destroying the fabric of this cou

  • MADD is NUTS! If I can vote, if i can smoke, if i can watch adult entertainment (in most states), if i have to pay taxes, and if I can take a bullet for my country, why cant i enjoy a beer?

  • lower the drinking age, raise the drunk driving penalties

  • John McCardell is completely right, the law doesn't prevent underage drinking from happening.

  • John McCardell is completely right

  • HAHA Americans you live in a country full of overprotective haggy bitches, good for you :)

  • America is truly a disgusting and hypocritical nation. "With liberty and justice for all" ; fucking bullshit.

  • @IlPadrone7 America started off like that but then these slime ball corrupt pieces of shit who run the government were able to change things. I am leaving America as soon as I have the income to support that decision. CANADA HERE I COME

  • u wanna talk about reality? 21 year olds already buy alcohol for their 18 yr old friends. Imagine 18 year olds supplying alcohol for their 16 yr old friends, and possibly/ probably lower for a price..

If you don't think thats the real deal, stop by a high school dance sometime. It gets worse

  • Parents aren't the issue they aren't responsible for 18 year olds. 18-20 year olds are legal emancipated citizens and are entitled equal rights as other adults are in America. This law violates civil rights, as with any law prohibiting only under 21.

  • Motives or no motives, more than 130 presidents have a point. Since the drinking age was changed to 21 in 1984, the number of binge drinkers between ages 16-20 has been either steady or on the rise every year. Clearly, something is off here. If changing the drinking age back to 18 is not the answer, then I would sure like to hear a better solution. In my opinion, the age of 18 is old enough for people to make their own decisions about drinking, as long as schools can be allowed to teach about it

  • @scc123190. John has seen how college students binge and thinks that providing them the opprotunity of getting alcohol more easily will stop binge drinking? there will be increased binge drinking due to the fact that anyone will be able to get it on a college campus

  • John, the director of choose responsibly- a college president, who has seen how kids are with alcohol. Aka he has seen the kind of revenue it can bring into a school, and can see that colleges will be able to lower costs on such things such as providing campus police services. he has underlying motives just like every other college president. lowering the drinking age will only benefit colleges with bringing in more money

  • @tbird3132 Do you think the only reason that John wants to lower the drinking age is to bring in more money? You don't think any good can come from lowering the drinking age?

  • If the drinking age was reduced even further to 18, then this would introduce a new problem into the high schools of this country. Seniors, who are 18 years of age, could legally go into any liquor store and purchase alcohol. Then, they could distribute the liquor to their friends who are of younger age. The entire purpose of the legal drinking age is to protect the youth of America from the negative effects of drinking alcohol and by lowering the legal drinking age this would be defeated.

  • Comment removed

  • If the drinking age is lowered these students can be taught about alcohol dependence. Most of them become dependent on alcohol because they get a thrill out of doing it underage. We have the power to take that away from them if the drinking age is changed.

  • @mynameis1210 yeah, except we don't, because they're 18. How can you possibly argue that lowering the drinking age will change what they see as a "thrill"? That's just speculation based on a cliche. I've heard several people saying that people 21yrs+ act just as irresponsible- - so what chance do 18 year olds have?

  • Teaching young adults responsible drinking will be a lot better than teaching them abstinence as we do now. High schools today only tell students that they should never drink, when the reality is that they will do it anyway. If the drinking age were 18, high schools could actually teach them how to be safe when drinking. College students would also be more likely to call for help in an alcohol-related emergency, instead of letting people "sleep it off" out of fear of getting caught.

  • If the drinking age is lowered, do you think that teenagers are educated enough to handle the full availability of alcohol?

  • Comment removed

  • Lowering the drinking age to 18 will make alcohol less attractive to young adults. The adventure factor is lost for them when it is legal. Also, they will be able to do their drinking in a controlled environment like a bar or a restaurant rather than in a fraternity house. The reason why alcohol-related deaths are so high in minors is because they are forced to do it in an uncontrolled environment where they can consume as much as they want. Lowering the drinking age will put an end to that.

  • @mynameis1210 When the adventure factor is lost, do you think teens and college students will stop partying in fraternity houses for good? I understand that because drinking for people under the age of 21 makes it more exciting, but I'm not sure lowering the drinking age will automatically put an end to that. And how would you suggest to educate young adults about drinking responsibly?

  • The U.S. has the highest drinking age and the strictest drinking laws in the world. Weird how we also have the some of the highest amounts alcohol related deaths in the world.

  • How much of your evening news is spent covering

''drunk driver dead/killed someone/needed rescue blah blah''

    each night ?

We have too many drunks out there NOW- no need to add

    teenagers to the mix.

Studies have proven two things : alcohol kills brain cells, and

teen brains are NOT fully developed. You do the math.

  • You're not thinking about the negative effects of banning alcohol to 18-20 year old's. They are going to get it regardless. It's just an underground operation now. When they see the alcohol, let's say at a party, they probably won't see alcohol again for another week at least, so what do they do? Binge drink. They drink and drink to dangerous levels. And unfortunately according to studies, it averages to about every 2 hours that a youth dies from from alcohol related incidents.

  • It's illegal, so underage drinkers aren't going to call an ambulance for those that seriously need it. There is one story of that happening here on youtube. His friends just let him lay on the couch until the next morning and it wasn't until they was blue and cold to the touch that they decided to call 911. Happens more than you think. Besides, your argument doesn't really argue anything. By your logic we might as well ban 21-24 yr olds and save even more lives or 25-30 yr olds.

  • im 18, and its so embarassing when i go to the bar with my dad he's drinkin a corona while im forced to sip on Dr. pepper....i even grabbed a black straw which evidentally is for booze drinks and the bartender practically flipped over the counter so he come snatch it out of my hands......damnit im a legal adult...treat me like one

  • That's Fox for you.

  • I agree except for your first statement. I know people whose parent's don't drink but the kids drink themselves into a stupor. It isn't ALWAYS the parent's fault.

  • People know what alcohol does to them. Binge drinking will not stop if alcohol is legally provided to those under 21. It will get worse cause you don't have to get someone over 21 to buy it for you. Kids these days take their bodies for granted. This will fix nothing.

  • I'm 21 so I win. =)

  • lol so you can join the military and have bullets fly at you but you cant have a drink. classic

  • We do it ANYWAY

  • Comment removed

  • i think people should reailize the dangers of alcohol. I ve heard that most peoples brains dont develop until at 25. Having more teens drinking is just going to lead to more deaths. For once people should care about other peoples lives than just getting wasted on alcohol and having their whole future screwed up.

  • @Ipodfritto You stupid idiot. If that were true how come europeans don't suffer near the binge drinking deaths or drunk driving deaths that we do even though their drinking age is 18?

  • Comment removed

  • Well, I am on both sides of this case. But I must admitt, even I had alcohol before 21. Not many people who waited 21 years. And when you make someone wait 21 years they go wild because they never could before. I think we should educate our kids further, than lower the drinking age, and by doing so strick the laws a little more. Than the other argument. People under 21 are irresponsible at times. I just think they should lower it, but at the same time find ways to get the trouble makers.

  • If I was governor of my state California, I would have lowered the drinking age to 18 or 19 first, if I ever got into office.

  • I believe that teenagers only drink most before 21 because its breaking the rules. if you tell a five year old to not press a button he'll press it. We will still drink even if told not to. look at the 1920's prohibition. it failed because people still drank. and some people started drinking because of the fact it was against the law.

  • Thankgod someone is sensible and intelligent! I keep saying this to people but they don't believe it. Apparantly they 'love' the taste of vodka...

    at 14

  • Agreed.

  • 21 year olds are no different than 18 year olds.

  • Also, the idea of taking a class to be aloud to drink alcohol at age 18, similar to a Driver's Education class, is the most ridiculous statement i have ever heard about this topic. That would make a mess and add to further controversy and criticism. The so-called "Driver's Education" test has no real telling of how well the driver is on the road, therefore, how could an alcohol class be the method of action to see if a person of 18-20 is actually fit to drink. Their is no relevancy here.

  • Furthermore, the statistics referring to teenage drunk driving when the drinking age was 18 is of no support to the topic of lowering the drinking age. This statistic does not support the statement of "lowering the drinking age to 18 would be a bad choice." People of all ages, especially older than 21 get DWI's and DUI's all the time. Anyone can see this, all they have to do is open a local paper to the police blotter. Teenagers are not the only one's who drink and drive. Time's have changed

  • I work in a restaurant and see many people drinking everyday at the bar. I witness many immature and irresponsible older men and women who cannot handle drinking alcohol. I do not understand why these people who are of age can drink, while a person under 21, but 18 or older can't drink. You have to be a responsible person and realize your limits and stop yourself before you start to go overboard.

  • In Australia it is illegal to serve alcohol to someone who is heavily intoxicated, we have laws that control the selling of alcohol to everyone while keeping a legal limit of 18.. but honestly.. its much more fun to binge when it's illegal.. its a rush.. when i turned 18 and finished high school i now only binge once in a blue moon. I drink as much as i feel like without feeling like i have to hide it.. and thus i drink a responsible amount because i know my limits

  • Chuck Hurley needs to replace that word "Teenager" with "Adult". When you are an adult, you are viewed generally as a responsible individual, therefore, being a responsible Adult, people ages 18 and up should be able to drink alcohol.

  • i think 19 would make more sense...

  • I love John! He's on our side! =]

  • If parents can't stop their kids from drinking, then they're bad parents! Don't fuck the rest of us sensible kids over who just want a pint.

  • Fuck Chuck. He's an idiot, It's not up to the assholes of MADD to "protect" me. I'm 20 I'll drink if i fuckin want to, I'm an adult I can choose to drink if I want to I don't need other adults telling me I can't. In fact, because of MADD I think I'll take an extra shot every night, just to shit on their faces. FAGS.

  • I especially hate the argument that the drinking age at 21 saves lives..

Sure, if the drinking age was 25, we'd be saving lives too.

We could raise it to 30 if we really wanted to be lifesavers.

But no one's saving lives here... At 18, you are a legal adult and should be able to make your own decisions!

They key is drinking responsibly.. We need education!

  • i totally agree, at 18 your an adult. end of story. other adults shouldnt be able to put limits on me and allow themselves other things. My parents dont have any legal right over what i do and neither should random fucks like MADD. Shit man we allow 18 year olds to choose to kill their tri mester child but not have a beer. FUCK OFF MADD.

  • raise the drinking age

  • Lol, that will do nothing. I'm 18 and I can have alcohol whenever I want to. I was in France just recently and I drank there too. Moderation, not prohibition is the answer.

  • ALL MADD DOES is talk about highway fatalities. Why can't they ever rebuttle with overall under-age drinking facts? Because if you take that 1 category away, 'MADD' is dead wrong. That type of organization profits from the 21 drinking age. The higher-ups would lose thousands if we changed the law... god forbid!!! gasp!!!

  • man im Irish bein 18 is klas ere

  • im i8....so its ok to go and fight a WAR for my Country

its ok to HAVE sex with who i want its ok to VOTE

but is not ok to have a BEER?

    WHY?

FUCK ALL I WANT IS A BEER !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this has nothing to do with the parents of america, at 18 your parents arent your legal guardians any more, your an adult

  • But, you can't drink yet.

  • @IHABC8

I know. That's what this video is about.

  • @homer091 surpose to be an adult legally yes maturity no

  • @dihle12

So you're saying that at 18 a person is too immature to be held responsable for their actions? If that's your opinion then fine, but then you should at least agree that the law should reflect that, otherwise you're being hypocritical.

  • @homer091 we can should be held responsible for our actions as kids we are taught right from wrong the problem is at 18 teens aRENT ADULTS they r immature brats if they break the law then they get punished do the crime do the time they are bad enough with out adding alcohol to the problem to

  • @dihle12

So you're saying that 18 year olds are too immature to know right from wrong but should be punished as if they aren't because they know right from wrong??? Try explaining your point of view without contradicting yourself because I can't understand your train of thought.

  • How many DUI are given to of age drinkers? MADD you should stick to the roadways NOT the overall age you over protective fucks!

  • lonnie!

  • I think it shouldnt be 18 but maybe 19 because you will be out of highschool by then but 18 works i guess.. They take that law to the extreme in our city of La Crosse Wisconsin they puppy guard our campus area & when they hear noise they try to make an excuse to bust a party and they also stop people on the streets to see if they have been drinking.. We have a sting opperation which they go in unmarked squad cars during oktoberfest and bust people so they make a bunch of cash.. that is bullshit

  • may i ask a question? why do people drink anyway? I would like to know.

  • In these days when most youth think it's cool to be stupid & tough...'Fuck no!' to lowering the age limit. In Houston, I'm always worrying about Mexicans behind the wheel, I ain't trying to worry about some 19-year-old high school drop-out drunk running into the side of me from a strip club.

  • so you arent affraid of the 19 year old drop-out alcoholic, when he or she is 2 years older, is 21, and is still a drunk dropout behind the wheel...

    dipshit

  • I guess they should ban texting until you're 21 too because studies show that its more dangerous than drinking behind the wheel.

  • they have.

  • i dont know y ppl think just cuz the law says 18year olds cant drink that they dont do it already...thats like how drugs r illegal that dont stop ppl from using it. but this is exactuly wat the government wants...they want this world in chaos

  • So I can join the army and get sent to Iraq and gamble with my life but I'm not adult enough for a beer? Fuck the US government. Howcome every other country in the fucking world is 18 to drink except this punk ass country?

  • Sarcasm

  • 18-20 year olds should not have to pay taxes or get drafted there no where near mature enough to handle those life situations.

  • I think it should be 18 you can fight in the war and you can vote.

  • well.....drinking age is 21, driving age is 16...killing age in the army is 17....and one of the highest rates of drunk driving in the world......there is something wrong...

  • They should be trying to lower it to 16 so that parents can teach their teens how to drink responsibly.

  • they should make it 12

  • "the real question for the parents of america is do they want their teanagers having more access to alcohol" its not up to my fucking parents when im an adult, what a DUMBASS. should they question who i vote for too? do my parents want me drafted? i dont think so.

  • Look how Prohibition worked out. It was a disaster. Look at Amsterdam, marijuana is legal, and only a small percentage smoke marijuana. It is a fact that if something is illegal, people will use it solely because of its illicity.

  • "US hate... health & safety groups are teaming up to keep the law right where it is." He had it right the first time "US hate & safety groups..."

  • 18 year olds are absolutely NOT "kids" or children, or anything but adults. I am 18 and I am an adult, and have been for a long time. There is no such thing as an eighteen-year-old child.

  • 18 year olds are considered as 'young adults' not 'adults'.

  • Yeah but these 'young adults' are old enough and mature enough to decide to join the military, but their not responsible enough to enjoy an alcoholic beverage. C'mon. If I'm old enough to go overseas and quite possibly die or choose the president then I should be able to drink.

  • Yea they're mature enough to join the army, but most 18 year olds still do alot of bad decisions like binge drinking and causing violent acts on the streets, thats why theres still people who are against loweriong the age. Lucky in New Zealand the drinking age is 18 and over hahaha.

  • mature enough to join the army, so most 18 year olds make bad decisions with drinking but are less likely to make a bad decision with a gun? fucking idiot.

  • Well if 18 year olds joined the army, they would've learnt self respect and respect to others(therefore, would use a gun respectiviely) unlike a majority of normal 18 year olds causing alot of trouble on the neighborhood due to drinking.

  • yes, and if 18 year olds were allowed to drink, then we would have to introduce things earlier and teach responsibility, maybe you didnt hear John McCardell suggesting that. nonetheless why would i accept that 21 year olds are magically more responsible than any other adult? also its proven that underaged drinking HAS NOT gone down. and it wont, i drink like its legal, the law is wrong here so i dont follow it.

  • Well i didnt say 21 year olds were a more responsible drinkers. Im not the one who chose 21 as the age of responsible drinkers. In my opinion, i think the age of 25 and over is the appropriate age for drinking.

Well obviously the drinking has not gone down in USA becuase its like part of your culture to drink.

  • alcohol is a LEGAL substance, being that its legal, and im an adult, aka i dictate my own life, any adult should be able to drink alcohol. by telling adults that they arent old enough to drink its like we are 95% the way to adulthood, its bullshit. then they feed us lies like it affects teenagers differenltty and dangerously, well europe has no minimum age of over 18, european teenagers bodies arent different than americans, dumbasses

  • Now answer this to me honestly: WHY DO YOU NEED TO DRINK?

  • i dont NEED to drink but 21 year olds dont NEED to drink either, its a privlage and every adult should be able to choose that privlage or against it. i shouldnt have to be worried about being caught with a beer in my hand. im old enough to make my own family, live on my own, take care of my own children without question, i can go to war, vote for the person who will LEAD OUR COUNTRY, i can get a credit card. etc. etc. BUT HEAVEN FORBID I HAVE A FEW BEERS thats WAY too much for me to handle.

  • because a majority of 18 year olds act stupid when they drink. Voting for a person, or getting a credit card cannot do mabehavioural acts from an 18 year old, but drinking does( well for most 18's).

  • your saying then that the issue is responsibility? so we should try to teach responsibility not that alcohol is a taboo

  • Find something better to do than going back on old comments, bitch. So, so old.

  • Dont care faggot

  • YOU ARE A COMMUNIST!

  • shut up i was in the army dumbass the only thing that want you to know is how to kill thats the only thing you need to respect

  • a person who would've joined the army wouldnt use words like 'dumbass' because they would've beened disciplined to respect others in a mannered way, even if they hated that person. So yeah, your a liar.

  • theres all kinda of stupid acts that 18 year old can do without drinking and what the hell do you know about me bitch

  • I know that your an asshole(looking at your comments in your channel, you seem to be hated by everyone).

And about the alcohol, well, its true 18 year olds can do stupid things without drinking, but drinking just increases the stupidity.

  • 21 year olds do stupid things and drinking increases there stupidity to .. answer me this.....if your brain at 18 is mature enough to make a decision on wether to kill somone in war or not then i would say your mature enough to drink ....theres really no arguement .. if you have to pay taxes and can fight in war at 18 drinking should be the same.... answer my question and tell me how that makes any sense there alee775

  • Open you eyes, burger. The reason its 21 years old is because according to the stats, most 18 year olds are not responsible drinkers. Kiling some one in a war is a different story. I dont see no stats about 18 year olds going crazy with a gun, but you do see a lot(well most) of 18's causing havoc due to the alcohol abuse, thats why the limit is 21. I agree with you that 21's are quite stupid when drinking as well, but they're not as immature as 18 year olds.

  • ALEE775 you and your stats can take a flying fuck at a rolling donut.

  • your stats right or wrong dont matter..i mean i dont see why an 18 year old is mature enough for everything else other than drinking...if were not considered mature enough for controlling our drinking then we shouldnt be considered mature enough to pay taxes/vote/enlist in army/ ect ...your really avoiding the question which is why those things and not drinking...its a contradicting idea you have and makes absolutally no sense. stats is all thats backing upyour statement which holds no substance

  • 18's are mature enough to vote/join the army/pay taxes etc. Do you see people who join the army do stupid things on the streets? NO. Do you ever see 18 year olds doing stupid things while voting? NO. DO you ever see 18 year olds doing stupid things when drunk? YES. A LOT OF TIMES!(especially in New Zealand. They're planning to move the age back up to 21 due to the majority of idiotic behaviour of 18's when drunk).

  • whatever i see there is no point in argueing with you but your points still dont make sense and contradicts itself so im done responding

  • HOw does it not make sense? A majority of 18 year olds dont drink responsibly, and YOU know it.

  • Today's 18 year olds simply aren't mature enough-their too impulsive and their judgment is undeveloped, so they wind up doing ignorant things. There's more ways of fucking up being drunk than driving: unwanted pregnancy, domestic violence, violence in public, etc.)

There's no way you can realistically compare serving and fighting for one's country-the most noble sacrifice a person can make-with being intoxicated.

  • When I am drinking with underage drinkers (obviously not at the bar) I regularly get into disputes about anything and everything, there is a lack of mutual respect. Drinking is an adult activity and responsible adults have respect for each other.

  • you sound dumb everything your saying contradicts itself...theres no point in argueing with you.. you will just keep repeating yourself. so im done ...and your wrong

  • So you think im wrong that most 18's drink irresponsibly? pff you dont know shit. Your probably one of those dick head teens who gets pissed every Saturday night and doing stupid behavioral acts.

  • Do you seriously think most 18 year olds drink responsiby?

If you dont, then you really need to get out more.

  • Then why is it 18 throughout all of europe you dumb twat. They don't seem to have a problem there now do they.

  • i know more people in the army and armed forces that use profanity in regular conversation all the time. REtard

  • @CaptainSteve0112 18 year olds are not adults they are immature children that should not be allowed to drink alcohol they are not responsible enough

  • adults all the same, i can be drafted asshole

  • there is such thing as an eighteen-year-old kid.

  • MADD guy made a horrible argument. It's appropriate that teens can go off fight wars kill people and help choose the future leader of country when most are really unsure what to look for in a president. Truth: The reason most adults reelected president bush "He's the type of guy you can go to a bar and have a beer with." Right... because that proves adults are more responsible than teens.

  • Another thing about alcohol is the "cool" factor. Kids who go to field parties and drink are are deemed cool, because they are drinking, hiding it from others, and mildly breaking the law. I live in Vienna [go to an internat'l school] and just the other i was buying beer and ran into one of my teachers at the checkout. Imagine how that conversation would have went in the US; however, since that's not the case, when he asked, "what are you up to?" I said, "nothing just having a beer, it's friday"

  • The point I'm trying to make here is that it would not be such a big deal, as was the case. And indeed the truth is that it is not a big deal at all. Kids wouldn't be drinking at field parties, and driving home drunk and crashing their cars.

  • are you kidding, im underage, yes.....and i have been to many parties. Many friends drink and so do I, the thing is all of my friends are responsible. We party and stuff but we don't always go and get drunk. We have a good time, sometimes it great just to watch the other people drunk, its holarious, there is no cool factor, thats just some bs parents make so they don't have to blame everything on themselves.I am not going to die for my country and be an adult and not be able to drink.

  • you in the military?

  • not old enough but am thinking about it.

  • lets talk about the background footage of "kids" drinking and engaging in such behaviors. Thanks alot FOX, I'm sure that really helps our case. Political bias anyone?

  • the MADD guy didn't really give a strong argument

  • Our US government is way too bossy and controlling. Here is an example. If you are 20 years old (underage drinker), a grown up and have problems drinking responsibly you are just as irresponsible as a 10 year old drinking. It'll probably not be lowered anytime?

  • well dude, first of all dont tell me to stfu. im trying to push the drinking age of america to 18. all of the kids at my school AREE american, we go to an american school here, and what i was trying to say is if yo introduce alcohol to teens at an impressionable age, and not act like it such a horrible thing! then they will learn to just accept it as something thats normal in their lifestyle. and the brits and russians get in much more trouble/fights than americans and their drinking age is 18

  • stfu. its doesnt matter what age you put the restriction on.....as long as people can get their hands on it....its eventually gonna trickle-down to the younger age groups...

p.s. its amerika....as teenagers we are way different from the world....so europeans drinking experiences shoudnt mean anything considering the fact that we're infamous for creating/engaging in stupid activity.

  • All i know is that, im living in holland, where at 16 i can go into any bar. Im 17, and have been around alcohol consumption since i was 15, and i could take any chance i want to to go out and drink. But because its all around all the time, im able to control myself, like all the other kids at my high school here. we do not think of it as a big deal becuase we're so use to it. Holland has barely any alcohol problems, even with a drinking age of 16. So thats a point to take in consideration.

  • McCardell is my new hero! America has the same drinking age as other alcohol-paranoid regimes, including Oman and the United Arab Emirates. This is a civil rights issue. We currently have a whole section of the population that can buy a house, buy a gun and buy a marriage license, but NOT buy a drink! This is all thanks to MADD, a political pressure group whose puritannical mentality has never departed from believing in a failed social experiment of the 1920s.

  • i wish messaging was enough YOU FAIL BALD MAN

  • McCardell handed Hurley his ass in this debate. What pissed me off most about this is how Hurley kept referring to 18 year olds as "kids," and claiming the law gives parents more control over their "kids." 18 year olds are NOT kids; they can vote, drive, smoke, join the military, and do other adult things, but they can't have a little drink? While I certainly don't believe McCardell that lowering the drinking age will decrease binge drinking, keeping it where it is obviously isn't working.

  • Love the TiVo ha ha

At least lower it to 19 or 20 years old why do you think that the kids are sneaking around and driving while intoxicated.

  • MADD CEO says "John's entitled to his own views, but not his own facts." Guess what, Mr. Hurley, McCardell is only asking us to wake up and get a clue. Since when are people not entitled to facts because special interest groups with tons of money don't like them?

  • where were the videos of people just kickin back and havin a brew or 2 with their buds?

nah, let's only show all the irresponsible idiots who are binge drinking and dancing like morons. that'll get MADD's point across...
