@bags258 im aware that its because they know how to condition themselves better today and whatnot, but all the same, it is what it is. if sidney crosby played in the nhl during the 50s, he would be the fastest, strongest, best player in the league. hed put up probably no less than 250 goals and 250 assists a season. its a different time, rocket dominated his day, but i seriously believe he wouldnt make an AHL roster, nor an NHL roster nonetheless.
@goat6668 If Sid or Ovi played back then they would have dominated no question, but in the 50's neither would have been as big or strong. And there are people in the NHL like Quinton Laing. Rocket would easily be on an NHL roster. I think you might be underestimating his skill set. He was tremendous and if he were in the NHL today he would still be a solid player.

Rocket would easily be on an NHL roster. I think you might be underestimating his skill set. He was tremendous and if he were in the NHL today he would still be a solid player.

@PresidentPimp ok, i respect some of what you said. first, i dont play anymore, its a lot of money, and i dont have it. i quit all my sports though, football was my best. its irrelevant though. rags, i like em, theyre my 2nd team, and im a pens fan. just always loved em. ov may have had as many pts with 10 less games, but his linemates werent scrubs like sids. ov wouldnt be able to hang with dupuis/kunitz/guerin on his lines. probably nobody could. sid made it ALL happen. his team is trash.

@PresidentPimp yeaa, theres a reason he didnt have the same amount of games as them. Ovechkin does not suck, he has skill, just not as much as you credit him for. and if you say that hockey is a team game, well the team he plays for (obviously Capitals) couldnt make it to the cup that year :)

to be a great hockey player you need three things heart attitude and skill. ovechkin has skill (more than crosby) but crosby has alll three. and this year guess what? ovechkin had a better team around him this year and they didnt go anywhere. crosby is a better captain (stopped being a pussy) then ovi... ovi tries to do everything himself and is way to reckless. ovechkin thinks the puck has to be on his stick every time up the ice and that is what seperates them the most. crosby is better

ovechkin sucks at body cjecks to say the least... he has seriosusly done this like 500 times... he tries to check someone and ends up flying into the boards. check out the one where he tries to lay out Malkin and then when he epicly fails he gets a russian temper and goes after Malkin.

Ovechkin isn't close to being a better player than Crosby. Crosby's a pussy? Ovechkin only has a reputation as a big hitter because he JUMPS into all his checks, like this. He's not tough, he's dirty. Whenever a hit similar to this one happens again, and he breaks his neck, i'll laugh.

@chicago859 lets look at the career stats for both of them ovechkin rookie season:54 goals 56 assists for 106 points second year:46 goals and 46 assists for 92 points third year:65 goals and 47 assists for 112 points forth year:56 goals 54 assists for 110 points and this year: 50 goals and 59 assists for 109 points and he only played 72 games and almost beat crosby again. in goal scoring.

@Chicago859 rookie year for crosby:39 goals and 63 assists second year:36 goals 84 assists for 120 points third year:24 goals and 48 assists for 72 points. forth year:33 goals 70 assists for 103 points and this year:51 goals and 58 assists for 109 points and ovie was one goal behind him and played 9 games less then him overall stats for both crosby:183 goals and 323 for 506 points and 371 games played. ovechkin:369 games played 269 goals 260 assists for 529 pionts.

Because Crosby had a better team doesn't mean Ovechkin's better. Ovechkin plays great because he plays on an all star line. Backstrom, Knuble, Green and Semin occasionally playing with them. And so what if Crosby looks like some famous comedian. At least he doesn't give little kids nightmares. Ovechkin has the scariest goddamn face the nhl has ever seen.

Oh by the way I read your comment below about Crosby having Malkin and Ovechkin having "no one!". I guess you don't watch Pens hockey. Crosby centers the first line with Billy Guerin and Chris Kunitz playing left and right wing...mediocre players at best. Malkin centers the 2end line and Staal on the third. Who does Ovie have on his line? N. Backstrom, Mike Knuble, Mike Green and (arguably the best offensive defenceman in the league).

@enaz69ar I would rather be called better than to win. Winning is a team thing, being called better is an individual thing and like T.O. once said, I love me some me! I would rather have more goals and points in my career than win 10 cups and a couple golds that's just me though. I'm just happy if i'm the best my team can be in last place for all I care. I get what you're saying though.

@goalscr12 good point. i'm not an ovechkin fan, but i don't want to see players ending their careers with severe injuries, and whenever i look at ovechkin play he reminds me more and more of eric lindros. let's just hope he doesn't end his career the way lindros did.
