  • I always think of Shawshank Redemption when watching this :D

Such a beautiful movie, such a beautiful scene, such a beautiful SONG <3

  • holy sloooooow.

  • Mozart was the greatest ever at making harmonies. This opera is kind of boring - and then you get this - the voices of angels. Amazing - just amazing.

  • @Midases boring?? ...you obviously do not know much about opera though it is nice that you like this piece. Just before "this" the Contessa sings one of the most exquisite arias in the annals of female voice, following a hit parade of two and half hours of the most famous ensembles and arias for all voices other than lyric tenor (probably the reason you are not familiar with the tunes...) There is still about half hour to go of amazing arias and a breathtakingly beautiful finale... buy the CDs!!

  • I'm blasting this at work. Some of my "hard rock" co-workers stopped and listened. Gives me chills every time I hear this piece. The voice of angels.

  • whoever dislikes it should be shot

  • wow!

Patty

  • "Here again was the very voice of God"

  • The tempo is perfect as far as I am concerned.

  • The tempo is perfect as far as I am concerned.

  • Hope can set you free.

  • Kiri is the definitive Countess. End of argument. Conductor is Karl Bohm, btw.

  • @johnmiller910

Agreed and Kiri is the definitive Donna Elvira. NO ONE can touch her in these two roles...yet.

  • I think anyone who doesn't like this slow tempo should shuffle off and go and listen to the other versions which they may prefer - problem solved.

  • I really enjoyed the slower beat. This verson and the one from Shawshank are my two favorite versons.

  • This tempo is absurd!!!! ALLEGRETTO does not mean MOLTO ADAGIO.hONESTLY!! I don't know who is conducting this travesty but he should be shot! With some of our "great and famous " conductors it seems to me to be a case of the naked emperor..BAH! HUMBUG!

  • The version with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa & Cotrubras is better as it is sung at the correct tempo. Sorry.

  • This has got to be the very best version of this gorgeous music. Two fabulous voices and I love the slow tempo.

  • Sublime!

  • I agree. It's a slower version but enjoyable.

  • Perfect tempo........ perfect!

  • Indeed; tempo perfect. Some times the performance is very fast. This tempo is much more touching. I have uploaded this aria more times with Gundula Janowitz; the best performance ever heard. Also used in the film ""The Shawshank Redemption".

  • On the music its noted as Allegretto. This is too slow.

  • @LWPYSJ, Unless you think a zephyr is anything faster than this version, then the lyrics don't go with the original tempo, do they? ::)

  • I have to say that I find it offputting that the tempo is so slow. It's almost as if it's on the wrong speed. I have heard her sing it differently and much prefer those other renditions.

  • The tempo is just a touch too slow for my liking, but this certainly is one of the best renditions of this duet that I have ever heard. Pure magic.

  • Freni i Kiri te Kanawa - the best forever ;-)

  • My favourite version with both voices blending beautifully, whereas others I've seen have had one vocal overpower the other. My parents have always been Kiri fan's but I got a bit put off her when I met her as a child, so finding that I prefer this performance was a surprise.

  • I think this slower tempo imitates a letter-dictation better...

  • Agree with you ... however the tempo is also much dictated by how the artists and conductor see the action/interpretation. This version compared to the one with Renée Flemming and Cecilia Bartoli is much more lyrical while the other is ... let's say ... zesty

  • Pure rock.

  • This looks like it might be from a DVD, anyone have an idea of what it might be?

  • This is from the DVD of The Marraige of Figaro with Hermann Prey as Figaro. It is my favorite version of the opera, though I have seen a number of versions.

  • There is no word for this, only " Fantastic!!!" This is the best Sull'aria. Bravissimo!

  • How beautiful! How beautiful! How can those two match their voices like that?

  • Its harder to sing slowly though.

  • excellent performance.!!!

  • What a wonderful take on this song! Brava!

Divine!

  • Damn Bohm and his slow tempi! This would have been lovely if it just didn't drag so much!

  • Oh well, can't please everyone, but it sounds sublime to me.......

  • Diva to Diva!
