I couldn't care a less about the social conformist modern crap that's around today. This is real music and people will still be listening in one hundred years.
I WISHED WE COULD GO BACK TO THESE TIMES WHEN WE APPRCIATED GREAT MUSIC WITH OUT ALTERING THE VOICES AND DANCING CLOSE TO SOMEONE...WHEN TIMES WHERE SIMPLIER GOD I WAS BORN IN THE WRONG PERIOD
I am only 25 years old and it feels like I was born in the wrong time period. This is the only kind of music I listen to. Especially Dion and the Belmonts. Doowop needs to come back and get rid of rap crap, hard metal. Music nowadays is too negative. Doowop is happy music. They write about love, respect, and going to the drive-in.
@HMTOlympic Unfortunately the worlds screwed up, no ones happy with what they have, love is almost non existent and divorces ruin families, respect is about to be taken out of the dictionary cause no one uses the word anymore and drive-ins have been replaced with kfc and mcdonalds. Not to mention the fact that no one wants to go cruising in a honda civic.
Dion is a better singer than the Mello Kings' lead singer, but their recording is still the better one...more heartfelt. The Mello Kings' lead directly gets across to the girl that he'll love her forever. Dion's singing a smooth song about telling a girl that he'll love her forever...it feels more roundabout.
I'm sure the late Bob Scholl would certainly approve of Dion doing the Great Mello Kings classic. Absolutely geat stuff and will live forever long after rapp....has gone..my goodness is right! Check out the Mello Kings doing Chip Chip another great tune now totally obscure. Fifty's4ever jeff&suellen
Dion is truly the King of DOO WOP. It doesnt matter who singing background for him or whos song he is singing. The way he weaves a tune he makes it his own.He did a beautiful job on this number.
Dion and The Del Satins sound great , why would you call them The Belmonts Dion had long ago left them this is Dion as a solo and his studio back up group from Runaround Sue on was The Dell Satins, who sound nothing like The Belmonts.
Grest sound DIon. You still sound great. I sang lead with the Castletones in the Bronx and my husband sang back up with the Belmonts (now singing DJ Bobby James.
I agree with blisskasden completely! Dion & the Belmonts have lots of great songs to carry their name but this one, Tonight Tonight belongs to the Mello Kings. I blubber and ball like a baby everytime I hear their version of this song, and I am a 56 year old black man.
I agree with you. You can tell I am from the doo wop era, I had to ask my 14 year old granddaughter what BTW meant, so I guess that BTW also applies to me. Thanks.
I am from Boston, but I always wanted to go to Philadelphia to be on American Bandstand. Just imagine a Summer night and there's this huge doo wop concert at Coney Island and fans from all over get one last chance to go back in time.
Those are not the Belmonts backing Dion on this song. Sounds like the Del Satins, the group he used after he went solo. I have never heard Dion's version of this song before. The header says "hit single" but it wasn't a hit single in the U.S.
I love Dion, but this song belongs to the Mello Kings, whose version is THE doo wop ballad of the '50s. I had no idea that Dion even recorded this song.
This is a correction to your posting concerning groups in the fifties being black or Italians. The proper way to phrase that statement is "Most groups in the fifties were Sicilian or Italians".Thank You.
I never heard this version before~! I do like this better than the Mello Kings song, because Dion` s lead voice was so much better than the Mello King`s lead. The Belmonts harmony was tighter, also.
Thank you Joyce, and Bless you. My husband left his journey on earth for a much better place, 14 yrs ago this Memorial Day weekend (very fitting for a Viet Nam veteran). I learned so much from him and our experiences together. And although one never gets over it, I am leading a very happy, productive life. Sometimes I wish he were here to share in some of the highlights, especially of our two sons, but feel is more than likely is anyway. Again, God Bless you.
This song was on a tape purchased after seeing Dion perform at Summerfest 1992. It has special meaning as I later sang it as a part of renewing our wedding vows before my late husband's untimely death. It perfectly expressed my feelings during a very difficult time. The timing of the song coming into my life at that time was a true blessing, leaving me with with yet another wonderful memory.
holy that was totally weird. I made a video for this last week but never got around to uploading it until today and it even has the same image lol. I guess we both have good taste in music.

Perfect. Slow dancing that Don McLean made mention of so well in his masterpiece song. This was a huge hit in NYC. This is why teenagers had
transistor radios in their ears instead of phones. lol.
