  • my favorite game OF ALL TIME

  • I actually just here looking for a play through without commentary but listening to you explain everything so perfectly is actually pretty cool.

  • watching you play this makes me realize how much i sucked at this as a little kid.

  • 4 people had a deprived childhood. I loved this fucking game. Awesome walkthrough!

  • i find it funny how i didn't really realize i was beating people up for change

  • what was the name of another similar game there was like competitions with swimming, fighting, unicycles and some other stuff!???

  • Haha. Love the narration. Gives you 1 dollar 50 cents.... Gives you 2 dollar 50 cents. Hehe

  • Scott pilgrim vs the world

  • Like others already said, a true classic NES game. God I love that music. Brings back memories.

Good job on the walk through.

  • One of my all time favorite games.

  • @hakkujin Me too! It's an all time classic game. I am looking for people to play NES River City Ransom & other NES games, + other classic/retro gaming systems, Online. You need only the Nestopia emulator + game ROM. It's really fun with 2 players. Have you ever tried it? (online). You can also play SNES/N64, Sega Geneses, Atari 8-bits, MAME (arcade games) & Intellivision. If you're interested, let me know. Maybe we could get a game going sometime. :-)

  • Man, I still love and play these old Nes game to this very day! Playin' this game is why I fake sick sometimes and call into work!!

  • @rang3r34 Me too! I am a retro gaming junkie/"retroholic", haha. MAME, Commodore 64/Amiga, ALL Atari 8-bit & ST, NES/SNES, Sega Geneses, Intelli/Coleco-vision, Apple2, etc. I Love'em all! What I REALLY want though, are people to play NES/retro games with, Online. Have you ever tried it? All you need is the Nestopia emulator/game ROM. It has built in, free, netplay/Kailler Client support. If you're interested, let me know? Maybe we could get a game of River City Ransom (or others) going.

  • @gjc82071 I'll have to try it!! Sounds fun!! I'll let you know!!

  • Zeus's Wand!!!!

  • This game is great. Loved it back in the day.

  • i had this game but i could never figure out how to get 2 the zobies

  • i can't masturbate to this. too much talking.

  • Hey yazars, great tutorial. BTW, I really wanted to ask you, I'm looking for retro gamers who are interested in playing online/2 player games for, NES, Atari 2600/8-bit PC, Intellivision, & MAME. Nestopia has, as do other emulators, free Kaillera Client support. I'd love to play River City Ransom with you, (or anybody) online sometime. I've tried it only once so far. It was cool! I also read there are special 2 player movies for River City? Anyway, if you're interested, let me know. :-)

  • you're very professional. you should make tutorials for a living

  • @indigo1384 Isn't he though??? A+++ IMO! Simple, no frills, down to business, covers all the bases. Great tutorial.

  • Good shit man

  • Never know about the original back when it was out, but there's def a lot of stuff they could play with to make the sequel great. Hopefully they go with the retro art style and shops and all.

  • @tokinblckgie Actually there is the Game Boy Advance version made in 2004, & it kind of has everything you describe. Slightly improved graphics/sound, but similar to the original. Also has CPU controlled 2nd player option. It's pretty cool.

  • Code monkey looks just like this ^_^

  • @eddypikachu

I noticed that too on another video. Kinda cool that they got some of the inspiration for the show from an actual game. Especially one as under the radar as RCR.

  • River City Ransom 2 was just announced. Yes, a sequel in 2011.

  • Awwww! Memories!!!!

  • OH YES YES F** YES!!

I found the name of this game after like FFF 18 years?!?!

  • Best game ever

  • this is more like a "run" through, than a walkthrough...

  • I attribute my love of techno music to playing these games in the 80's and early 90's.

  • how do you jump i can't get him to

  • @rpmmelby Press A+B at the same time

  • This game is so awesome. I just got a copy of it on eBay. It came with the game, original box and the instruction manual and it was almost in brand new condition for only $16 dollars. I was very pleased.

  • It's called a Let's Play, dawg.

  • i love this game, one of the best beat'em up's of all time and on the NES for sure.

i remember playing this countless hours with my dad.. we would always just wonder back and forth beating ass never bothering to actually beat it.

  • u can run faster with texas boots

  • XD this game is fucking awsome!!!!!!!

me and my brother still play this we love throwing people in the ditches XDDDD

  • One of the all time best co-op games ever.

  • back in the day, it took me forever to figure out you had to back track

  • on 2 player its alot easyer cus if someone dies and is flashing the other runs out and no monney or power ups are lost

    puls you get health back

  • I just noticed at 5:09 thats the same damn wall you can glitch on in Double Dragon

  • howcome the warehouse is sometimes purple and blue?

  • damn dude did you take a breathe?

  • was cool seeing the game but it would have been far more interesting if you were talking to us instead of just reading a script

  • BARF!

  • Dude, this is some thorough shit. Well done!

  • meh. what button do you have to press to equip stuff in the menu? i have stone hands and dragon feet but when i press A or Start to equip them it just takes me back out of the menu. what gives?

  • This game was epic

  • @jc0503132 i love this game!!!! i still play it on the NES Emulator.

  • Hey guys what's that one game called that looks just like River City Ransom on NES.

It was rival schools battling olympic style in different stuff.. like running, jumping hurdles, spinning and throwing a ball+chain, ect.

  • @DvDPlaya Crash N The Boys, I think.

  • @GigaM64 Thank you!

  • The boss theme used to always get me hyped up

  • Wow. Comprehensive.

  • dont read from a script

    fucking gay

  • Very good linguistics. I think I'll try this game out... I love action games with rpg elements such as upgrades, and customization.

  • this game is great!

  • Ur girlfriend is great!

  • I really need to find this game. MY all time favorite. A friend had it, I borrowed it. Then years went by, and it gave it to another friend. Sucks

  • @MrThomasTuba pisses you off how back then it gets boring, but nowadays u want it bad

'sigh' i miss my crash games, but i did not take care of it at all

  • Javelin man lets you throw people across the screen in a spiral and grand slam lets you swing really hard with objects.

  • i loved this game when i was young....my step dad never went into the book stores...and didnt know how i got the fast kicking...and i never told him...lol

  • lmao, good shit

  • You sound like a freakin news reporter.

  • they just keep barfing over and over again LOL

  • isnt there a 4 player vs game similar to this with gameplay, graphics and sounds

  • Damnit this is my All time FAvorite GaMe ..EVER..and secret of mana..but this is the shit

  • Secret of Mana was awsome even though the bosses were repetetive. You should watch RivercityRansom on Mega 64 its uber funny

  • 1. Ransom is a real name. The guy who started Oldsmobile was named Ransom E. Olds. Look it up, all ye who "smell BS".

    2. This game is AWESOME! It should be a standard speed run game for video game competitions. My brother and I would see how fast we could beat it.

    3. You don't need to beat all bosses, I think you can skip two or three, but you do need beat Benny and Clyde to get Rocko to appear, if I remember correctly.

  • "BARF!!"

  • Great game!

  • Personally, I thought the bottom one was Benny, and the top was Clyde... It was weird how they kept getting their names confused.

  • Andrew, you had friends named Ransom? I smell BS...lol

  • I never had the chance to play this back in the day, remember seeing it in an old Nintendo Power mag. This looks like a blast, wish I could still play it.

  • "Unfortunately, there is no way to skip through this discussion"

    LOL!

  • i dont remember the game like this? i remember renting it because i had a friends named Ransom, lol

  • This video is amazing and bring me back but Jesus Christ man, BREATHE between your sentences!

  • Look i just want to know how to get into the High school at fhe end..there is a wall i cant get into..help?

  • Dude, you have to kill all bosses before go to that high school.

  • Ummm... does this game have a sequel?

  • HOLY SHIT!!! ITS GTA!!! :D

  • this was a relax run?! lol

  • this is my shit regular nintendo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This game was amazing. What a weird feeling this is to watch this and hear the music. I love Youtube. The song at about 1:05 puts me right back into the early 1990's.

  • God I love this game, definetly in my top 5 NES games of all time and is in my Top 10 Video Games of all time. A Perfect Game 10/10. BRILLIANT!

  • So, what is grand slam and javelin man for?

  • Woah, for someone who never played this game before on the NES this walkthrough was a lot of info to soak in. Thanks though!

  • The best game for the NES, HANDS DOWN!!! I saw pictures of this game in a magazine prior to its release in early '90 and I was impressed by the graphics and how tiny the guys were. I just bought this from the Wii Store and it takes me back to when I was 13.

  • great vid

  • After I fought and defeated BLADE, i used to get attacked by an invisible person near the far right part of the screen. Weapons would be thrown/picked up by this invisible person, and could actually hit them if I felt necessary. I can't recall if I gained money, but I thought that part of the game was f*cked up...

  • I'm trying to find a game that I played a long time ago that was called "River City Ransom" but it wasn't as pixelated and all of the characters were more detailed. Probably from a later console? Like the main character was a student from Osaka I think and the first level is in some hotel. Is this ringing any bells for anybody? Also it might possibly have been a Japan-only game but translated.

  • That is the Japan-only Turbografix 16 version if I am not mistaken...

  • has anybody on this post , actually beat this game, besides me ?

  • you got to kick the teeth , out those goons and throw stuff, and go to restaurants, they were doin' this stuff on the nintendo , way before gay theft auto, oh I mean grand theft auto , ,I remember playing this game as a kid , and I wish I could play it to this day,

  • this was the best game I ever played , f!@@ grand theft auto , this was king

  • hey much thanks for the information!!!!!

    I need much

  • This was the best game ever for NES. I remember playing this game and thinking, man it would be awesome if you could steal cars and fly planes and get guns and shoot people and have a totally free roam. i.e. GTA. I was convinced someone stole my idea when the original GTA came out. Great commentary!

  • great!

  • they did re release it on the virtual consle 4 the wii

  • I Stone Hands! The punching was more risky for me, since I had to watch my back!!!!!

  • I loved River City Ransom and Super dodge ball. I wish they would re-release this game.

  • Now you're talking my language

  • World Cup Soccer use the same charakter design :)

  • so does super dodge ball

  • All great games.

  • kinda looks like code monkeys

  • that cause code monkeys copys the game and isnt afraid to say it

  • this game is the best!

Just tha i dont understand the password.

i was up to the final boss, but i had to go out so i got the password but i didnt work WTF! i was so pissed off, how do i get the password to work?

  • Try replacing O's with zeros, I's with 1's or lowercase l's. Yeah nintendo sucked with those passwords sometimes.

  • Good thing, I don't need this stupid password on the Virtual Console, only I use suspending play saving. :) What a best fighting ever on the NES ever I have been played! I never played on the NES when I was kid until few weeks ago due I was kid and not interested in that however now is great game!

  • The passwords are only for items, stats, and bosses defeated (or areas open)

If you turned the game off, you will have to start from the beggining and make your way back to the school. At least youll still have your items/stats tho, right?

  • Yes, that's right. It's easy enough to run through areas that you've already beaten.

  • nice commentary

  • This takes me back in time. I see the wii virtual console has this for download now.

This is a must have in your collection.

Played this game so much back then wore the game disc out.

  • the game disk?

  • I always thought the same thing about Benny and Clyde's names

  • man your good all the zombies always guard all the time on me

  • I always thought using Dragon Feet or any three-hit combo moves made the game bland, so I use my bare fists, no special moves, and it's actually more fun. Try it sometime.

  • Just yesterday,I was at the place where you fight Moose(Easy money).Guess who spawned there?

    The squids...

  • i prefer RCR EX for the game boy advance

  • This is one of the best and also one of the most underated beat 'em up ever.

  • Well I never played this but I think it looks like it plays cooler than Double Dragon. Except, none of the Bosses are huge. This just came out for Wii VC, so you will probably get a lot more hits now.

  • yeah, this game rocks!

  • Nintendo World Cup players kicking ass and taking names!!!

  • wow very informative.

  • You're Realllllllllllly good at RCR.

  • AWESOME!!

  • Mmm pepper beef!

  • I loved loved loved this game as a kid. I remember playing this on the weekends with my best friend
