it didnt inspire mad max. the director george miller saw the movie after he had filmed mad max

It's conceivable he hadn't seen the film, but it's extremely unlikely that Miller wasn't influenced by Harlan Ellison's story, which was well-known in sci-fi circles and was an important influence on the genre itself. So even if the movie didn't inspire mad max, the story of "A Boy And His Dog" definitely did.

nothing rated r? The entire movie's main plot is about a post apocalyptic future where men have a telepathic connection with dogs. They use the dogs to find women and rape them. Thats the whole plot pretty much, there is nothing pg about this great movie

Simplistic synopsis there, viktim187.  I read the novella by Ellison long before the movie; the telepathy is specific between an individual and genetically engineered military working dog. In the post apo world, the offspring of these dogs connect with certain humans. And without each other, each would perish. Oh, and about the rapin' and a killin'...someone once said we are only 24 hours and 3 hot meals from anarchy at any given moment. If you watch the news you'd know it's true.

(post-) ww4 +talking dogs could b good, depends how, though. and miami vice johnson scolds his dog like luke skywalker goes "come on, r-TWO.." to r2d2 -not much (post)apocalyptic in the trailer at least.

the idea SOUNDS good for dark comedy (like the idea of cronenberg's "crimes of the future" where all women die of cosmetics). but i understand the talking dog like i do talking pooches from "married w/children" +"the storyteller" or old-hat flicks like francis the talking horse. and it seems w a y PG nothin Rated R about it. i expected a better trailer.

It is on DVD. That's how I watched it. It's available on both Amazon and Netflix.

Interesting flick! The ending is just AMAZING! :)
