  • Three words no longer used in commercials promoting television series: "...on this station."

  • Yes, I remember that episode {"The Case of the Twice-Told Twist", February 1966}- CBS filmed that in color as a "test", to see HOW the show would look in color, as they were considering renewing it for a tenth season, which they ultimately passed on. The episode IS available wherever the show is being scheduled these days....

  • Lost in Space knocked this show off the air.

  • I like Kathy :o)

  • This probably is a "syndicated" promo for the "local" stations that began airing the show in September 1966, "off-network" [including WPIX-TV in New York]. UA probably figured, let's film a color promo before production ends, and that'll attract more people...Barbara Hale did a "customized" one for "PERRY MASON" for the fall of 1966 (before it ended on the network), inviting people to watch it on "WPIX-TV" [at least that's the one I saw; they used that for years, right into the '70s].

  • @fromthesidelines Yeah, there was a color Parry Mason show too. They shot one show in color. Does anyone know where you can see that show?

  • I think this promo was the real start of a n exciting time for Patty. She comes off as warm, honest and friendly. She is one amazing woman!

  • This may well be a bumper for the series going into rerun syndication, which it did around 1967. Notice there are no references to abc or a specific day and time to watch, which are prominent in network promos. It would make sense that filming an ad in color when the 16mm syndication prints were being sold for local reruns, might make the show seem fresh. Viewers in the late 1960's may not have known all the episodes were black and white if they had originally seen them on a black and white TV.

  • The reason that the Patty Duke Show was cancelled in 1966 was that fact that Chrislaw Productions (ran by Peter Lawford), who produced the show with United Artists, did not have the budget to film the series to color due to ABC's shows going to all color for the 1966-67 TV Season.

  • @Jaybird1103 Lost in Space was a hit with the youth market. I know, I too stopped watching Patty Duke and switched to CBS. Just check TV history. Besides, the second season of Patty's show wasn't very good.

  • Dude! It's Patty in color! Sweet! I have no idea where you found this, but thanks for posting!

  • they can convert it from black and white to color they might do that for the box set dvds

  • They will be in black and white, thank God. I loathe when they colorize old shows and movies.

  • I do agree with you. Though I'm okay with it as long as they're also released in their original form.

I wouldn't mind seeing this clip remastered as an extra on one of the DVD's.. At least closer to the quality it was when this originally aired (I'm assuming this promo actually did make it on the air...correct?)

  • I didn't know that was possible. Is there an expample I can look up? I'm curious to see how it looks.

  • Bull CRAP!!

  • @PattyDukeTheatre , I just saw the season three DVD advertised on Amazon, which indicates it's in color. Did they colorize the show for DVD?

  • @vidayverdad2 Nope, it is just a typo.

  • She had tired of the show as can be evidenced in the last season. There was little difference in her portrayal of the two characters. She had outgrown the roles.

  • It would be interesting to see how the series would've looked in color had it gone on to the 1966-67 season.

Other clips from Youtube of Patty Duke in 1967 show her alot older looking just a year after the series ended.

  • "Duke wrote in her memoir 'Call Me Anna' that United Artists, which produced the series (as well as The Miracle Worker), refused ABC's demand for a switch to color. Duke suspected, but never knew for sure, that United Artists executives said no as "a negotiating ploy" with the hope that ABC would respond with an offer to pay it more money for the series. In the end, however, ABC decided not to renew the series". [2]:167 Wikipedia

  • uhhh... pretty sure this is B&W film that simply discolored over time, yo...

  • No, it's color film that has faded over time. I had it checked out, Mike.

  • Color or not, this is still a great clip. Would love to see it included in the DVD release of the series. (Like that's ever going to happen. lol)

  • Well, it is. Season One of "The Patty Duke Show" is released Sept. 29th.

  • I know. Great, isn't it? :)

  • Sure is. I've been watching clips of the show lately and it is so much fun and genuinely funny! It's nice to watch vintage TV, before everything got sex-obsessed and crass (and unfunny, too).

  • This will sound pretty bizarre, but one of my recurring dreams is stumbling upon a "lost" episode of the PD Show that was shot in color! :) No idea what it means, this sure reminds me of it!

  • I had dreams of entering a black and white television world! Maybe I'm becoming nocturnal from upsetting my biological clock to often? During the week I get The Patty Duke Show in the wee hours of the morning.

  • I wonder why this was done in c-o-l-o-r

when the show never went to color - very interesting to see - had it gone one more Season it would have switched to color as most shows did for the 66-67 Season. But, I think PATTY DUKE was ready to move on to other projects, and VALLEY OF THE DOLLS was just waiting around the corner.....

  • You are adorable!&#$)*^%$##!***^"<&&

  • what a great show

  • I am surprised that the last season of the Patty Duke Show wasn't shot in color. It aired back-to-back with Gidget, which was in color. I know color would have cost so much more added to the fact they used the very expensive (at the time) split screen effect.

  • United Artist didn't want to spend the extra money even though the ratings weren't all that bad.
