  • LISTEN! Chaz michael Michaels IS figure skating, period!

  • can you do that on figure skates?

  • you dont dig in you glide stupid

  • Comment removed

  • thats going to take me a year to learn lol

  • That's a funny looking kitchen. Also, I don't think this broad knows what a 90 degree angle is.

  • why listen to a girl when the men is the players?

  • thats a 90 degree angle alright 1.00

  • Ok I tried that like 100x but I just spun and spun

  • @1314korey You are spinning because you have too much weight on your heels during the transition to the stop. The big difference between a hockey stop and a turn, that everyone forgets to mention, is what part of your skate you're putting your weight on. While turning your skates to stop keep the weight towards the front. This will allow you to turn your skates while continuing to go in a straight line. Once you have turned your skates 90 degrees, drop your weight on your heels. Hope this helps!

  • And then... (stutter) jim....will demonstrate how...... To hockey sttttttop.

  • @cracktober well I'm guessing u don't have a gf ?? Haha

  • i nearly snapped my spinal cord in 9 different places trying this-_-

  • I rwisted my ankle doing this i suck

  • I don't take advice from women.. ever.

  • @cracktober dude thats not funny thats just sexist.. im a man but, if my female doctor told me to take a prescription i would.. your just a retard, and dont tell me this was just a joke cause it wasnt funny..

  • @tdstudd1996 it was a joke. you have to have humor to get it.

  • @cracktober Lol, nice life.

  • can you go any slower?

  • this chick like's watching jim....

  • @AngryTypingGuy27 The foot doesn't have to be close, stop with one foot without the other one even touching the ice. Instead of just stopping, you want to push out so you kinda slide to a stop. Then put your weight back on the back foot to gain balance after the stop.

  • Does the amount of space between your feet have any effect on stopping? The guy demonstrating in this video has his feet fairly close together, so I was wondering if it made any difference. My guess is that a wider stance would give you more stability while a more narrow stance might be more difficult to stop with.

  • this helps a lil explain it more cuz i still cant get it

  • omg. I'm a figure skater and I had to learn how to do this! It took me forever! Now I am great at it! ha I love doin hocky stops:)

  • hay when i try to do a hockey stop i allways fall over!! i am crap

  • nice vapors

  • I can only skate with my right foot. how can i skate with both

  • @MJROX111 practice. just start off slow and speed up. wear lots of padding because you will fall.

  • @MJROX111 Put a skate on the left foot?

  • you wanna turn towards your dominate side and pretend like your jumping its alot easier

  • When I do a hockey stop, my feet stop but my body just jerks forward and the end result is a stop but with the price if a painful butt

  • thanks

I Was see how to stop much deficald

    but for naw it's easy

  • stop in the middle of ur blades if u stop towards the tips or ur weight is off your blade will just bounce and u will look like a bender

  • 13 people cant stop on ice skates (:

  • i just cant get my outside edge on my inside foot to shave any ice

  • haha were a helmet fool

  • @hmaemaiglhtaonn

Haha, use proper grammar and spelling fool.

  • That's not 90 degrees of knee bend.

  • go to "howtohockeydotcom" for good tips and advice. Stay away from the advice this Livestrong Austin Youth Hockey Crew. Jim seems like a nice guy and the lady, director seems to be nice, but hasn't a clue in teaching beginners. It is a step by step process, where each maneuver must be broken down into individual elements, where each element is successively practiced until proficient, ultimately leading to successfully completing the entire maneuver.

Start at a very slow pace with stopping!

  • Alert! Parents of Beginners and Newbies in General:

This is a Warning advisement to prevent harm to life, limb and confidence of any beginning hockey player!

Do not listen to a word this young lady has to say about performing a hockey stop; following her advice will in no way help a beginner to learn how to perform a hockey stop. In fact, should a beginner follow her advice, most likely they will perform a sit-spin with a violent lurch on to their back, ending with their head slapping the ice!

  • As this video is for beginners, it should be banned under "Child Endangerment Laws"! First, she states," knees bent at a 90 deg. angle", try that and the kid will end up with his/her feet shooting out, landing on butt to back to finally back of head, now it's, "mommy I want to go home now" time. The crap about , "the inside edges of both skates", lets see a beginner concentrate on that when learning to stop. Never mentions, that the stop is performed with most weight on the front stopping foot

  • is the hockey stop easy with a sharp blade or a blunt blade( like the one the provide you at the ice rink) ? or does it not make a differnece

  • @SW1FTV1P3R sharp

  • Isn't there one inside and one outside edge helping him stop?

  • @johnpotter26 i know , she says push on the inside of your skates which would be extremely awkward

  • @johnpotter26 in the slo mo he stops on each edge

  • can I do this perfectly fine on one side, my other side isn't as strong and am alot less confident with it

  • Way better then expertvillage

  • JIM WE HAVE THE SAME SKATES =D

  • i can do it now ;L

  • Learn your edges first! Snowplow too before doing a two foot stop (aka. The Hockey Stop).

  • i love the alstate commercials haha "im a typical tenage girl" BOOM!

  • ok folks, great video.

FYI, one thing YOU HAVE TO KNOW!! If your skates dont fit properly, therefore without locking your ankle, no matter how you try, you cant do a proper stop and trip all the time.

For the life of me I couldnt figure out why I cant, then I realized all the skates i had were too long.

  • @zorokakashi That's exactly my problem

  • @Dabeez007 way way way way way way different

  • He so didnt have a 90 degree angle.

  • im 13 and i can spray

  • @higuyby100 ive seen 4 yr olds that can spray..

  • i can do it going at a slower rate of speed, but when i skate faster i fall flat on my face, any help?

  • @2Dcornflake Have you tried learning further back ?

  • ok i can do the hockey stop but i do not make and snow spray out when i stop is that a problem? or is it fine? i personaly slide approx 50cm but like no snow? weird huh? but i do stop XD

  • @atv5230 They do a lot of stopping, just very quickly

  • HAHA you suck

  • @atv5230

    *Facepalm

    FAIL

  • i effin love those hockey skates der so awesome but ima girl so i need da white ones i guess

  • don't ever think that just because your a girl. if you want hockey skates, go for it. Besides, figure skates have less ankle support so you're better off getting hockey skates anyways

  • we have same skates

  • That rink looks great.

  • @bukakee1 it really is... its the one i go to and thats only rink blue, they have a rink red thats just as nice... and the staff is even better, i give the rink 5/5 stars

  • his knees arent 90o ....-_-

  • Heh. They're more 90 degree than mine are when I try. :P

  • i always spin lol

  • me too lol

  • @kaaafg Spinning is common when you first try to stop. The reason is you need to keep the momentum in the direction you are skating, it's a weird feeling at first. I uploaded a couple how to hockey stop videos in my channel that should explain it for you. Feel free to subscribe because I will be adding a lot more hockey tip videos

  • I always spin =.="

  • me too lol)

  • i just got it i use to spin to but when i started unweighting my legs i got it so what in did was bend my knees then push up and turn thats how i got it hope it helps oh and if you have hockey equipment then go to shinny i felt more comfotable to do the stop with my hockey gear on

  • where do u live do u know a rink where they do youth shinnys? in canada ontario

  • He looks like Timmy with no hair but he's still better then me! I'm 100 lbs lighter then the other guy and I still can't do it...

  • Dropping F bombs aint gonna help.

  • He makes it look so easy.

  • i know, i hate that!

  • The thing with hockey stopping is confidence. If you think you can't stop, then you won't. What you have to do is turn your body in a snapping motion 90 degrees. You want to have weight on your inside foot rather than your outside. This is REALLY hard, so if you can't do that just put your weight on your outside foot and use that to basically onefoot stop while putting some pressure on the inside. Also leaning back while hockey stopping will give you more edge and cause you to stop faster. GL!

  • @mortaldemon1

And also, don't lean back too much, otherwise you will fall over, just lean back according to your speed, bend your knees and don't look at your feet (Bend over)!

  • @mortaldemon1 I like how you explained it

  • i am a 6ft 315 lb 19 yr old, i play hockey and i can do this hockey stop very well but i tend to slide or just stop without spraying much ice, any tips on how i can improve? i also cant stop very well to my left and tips on that to?

  • ur one fat fuck

  • LMAO!

  • You shouldtry to slide more to spray to do that you need to go at more speed and a bigger angle

  • i cant slide wen i try n do it, my skates dig in n then i go flyin across the ice

  • @oj07731 puch harder on yor inside edge. that should make you slide

  • @oj07731 and lean on your other foot

  • @oj07731 you need to gain more speed. if that doesn't work try leaning more

  • @oj07731

    get the correct hollow

  • @oj07731 Exact same when i first started. You might be putting to much force into it ? IMO I don't try very hard i just use my body weight. Do you put force into your foot when you try stopping ?

  • @oj07731 your skates are probably sharp sometimes that maybe a problem even for me thats why i usually try to dull them a little by skating on the edges a little

  • @oj07731 That is EXACTLY what happens to me :O Anyone any advise??

  • @NextGenerationStuff When your skate is straight and you slide it you'll see that you can slide it with ease, whereas when it's in an angle you can't because the blade is digging the ice. Keep that in mind.

  • @NextGenerationStuff just take it slow ,, when ur practising, skate slowly, then when u start getting the feel of it try going faster

ull get the hang of it

  • @oj07731 hey man your comment is a bit old but if your still having trouble, when your getting your skates sharpened ask for "Five Eights" its a type of sharpening that will make you slide easier. :)

  • @oj07731 same here. its so hard to cut into the ice. argh!!!

  • @oj07731 That happened to me when I got my skates sharpened but its alrite now xD

  • @oj07731 Lean to the side when you try alot so say you stop with the left foot in front you will lean towards your right foot alot so you wont do that.

  • @oj07731 You're an idiot . Lean more

  • @oj07731 its either cuz your skates are to lose so when you try to stop it wobbles over makeing you fall forward or when you try to stop you dont putt enuf wait on you skates sorry about my bad spelling just remeber to have wait on your skates and dont ty them to lose or you will face plant and also when starting of try stoping with 1 foot wile you have the other still faceing were your going :)

  • ya they are 25s ..they look terrible with black laces

  • Wow he's doing it WAAY wrong, adn those are vapors,

  • Are those Bauer Vapor's? They look like them...

  • why would you demonstrate with someone that sucks

  • Nobody said he was going to do a massive spary, remember this video is for beginner's.

  • haha hes doing it wrong

  • And I'm sure you did it right the first time eh? Bull-fucking-shit.
