I ADORE Missing Person's structure chords on all their tracks. They have this total New Wave synth sound mixed with AMAZING guitars and almost meloncoly choruses. perfect and VERY original sound. No one sounds liek them at all. Very original in every way possible!

They had bright synths, but they also had melancholy chord progressions. Considering that most of the great New Wave bands were British, this was a great band from L.A.
I went Ga Ga for Dale when I saw Words on MTV the first time. I knew she was WAY before her time. It was also obvious after seeing a few of Ga Ga's Vids that she stole everything she does from Dale Bozzio and Missing Persons and all she did was add a few dance steps to it and she was allowed to do EXACTLY what she wanted to now that Dale had already paved the way!

DAle had her day, now it's Gaga's turn. she was more influenced by Bowie than anyone else anyway..she has stated that, and it's clearly evident. I also grew up in the 80's and was a big MP fan. Dale's makeup and hair were reminiscent of the time of New Wave - everyone who was new wave was wearing that style - the hair, the pink makup and tons of eyeliner, etc. Dale was simply the standout.

I went Ga Ga for Dale when I saw Words on MTV the first time. I knew she was WAY before her time. It was also obvious after seeing a few of Ga Ga's Vids that she stole everything she does from Dale Bozzio and Missing Persons and all she did was add a few dance steps to it and she was allowed to do EXACTLY what she wanted to now that Dale had already paved the way!

accusing Lady Gaga of ripping off missing persons is stupid. She does not perform, sing or compose anything remotely close to this band. And she is not the first to have an avant-garde style and even SHE will admit that.

To my knowledge, Gaga has not admitted to adapting ideas for outfits and makeup styles from Dale Bozzio, therefore, any influential or inspirational motives are interpreted as rip-offs.

Gaga may have taken influence but what's the big deal.There are hardly any original bands artists now that you can't trace back to something.Time has changed things,it's not like when elvis appeared or the beatles came out anymore,pop music is a much explored avenue in the 21st century.I mean I had red/purple bits in my hair in 1981 or 82 it wasn't a new thing even then.

As for your hair in 81 and 82, although that mightnt exactly have been new in the 80s people experimented, now people dye their hair just because oh say rhianna dyed her hair red. Bottom line people these days do everything for the wrong reasons.

@baswelo exactly. and as far as influential artists go..they all have to pass the torch sooner or later. DAle had her day, now it's Gaga's turn. she was more influenced by Bowie than anyone else anyway..she has stated that, and it's clearly evident. I also grew up in the 80's and was a big MP fan. Dale's makeup and hair were reminiscent of the time of New Wave - everyone who was new wave was wearing that style - the hair, the pink makup and tons of eyeliner, etc. Dale was simply the standout.

I mean people like David Bowie, Siouxsie Sioux, Deborah Harry, even the New York Dolls all had similar styles, even before Dale had them. I guess what I'm saying is that why rag on Gaga for not being "original" when people like the great Dale Bozzio wasn't either. I'm not trying to flame, I'm just sayin'.

@ChameleonLost88 Dale was not influenced by any of the aformentioned artists. I know that for a fact. Her official influences are Marlene Dietrich, Aretha Franklin, Dion Warwick and Joni Mitchell.
Besides, being influenced by an individual is one thing, but mimicking them is another.

@CNSagent I'm talking about aesthetic styles. Dale might not have based her looks off Bowie or Siouxsie, but they had that look way before her. Purely based on who had what look first. Dale doesn't cross that finish line first either. It's like saying Marilyn Manson or Alien Sex Fiend are irrelevant because of Alice Cooper. Besides because of Gaga a whole new generation is getting into Missing Persons and Bowie, people who otherwise wouldn't. So Gaga is not such a bad thing.

And I'm not saying Dale is a copy of Bowie or Siouxsie I'm just saying they did the type of thing Dale did before Dale as far as aesthetics go. Plus what's wrong with being "naked in every video" Have you even seen a Missing Persons video? Dale is also half nude in a lot of them... So you fail on that one.

Old videos are funny. No special effects, didn't know what to do. They're like ya, Dales fuckin hot, just focus on her. I'll bet she's the only former playboy bunny to ever successfully front a band. They weren't huge but they did play in stadiums and were a staple the first couple years of MTV.
