the led and the switch is a waste of time (not saying i dont like ur video) but they create extra resistance. If you try to measure the usb, it roughly produces 4.8V which is extremely slow and can be considered almost as useless at that speed ... Just directly use red / black from usb and direct fan ....
LED gets too much power and it won't last for long, you can see it at the led is meant to lhave a green light, the LED of yours glows in yellow. And yes, too low RPMs for the fan. And it would be nice to
make it a bit more complicated, for example make the fan adjustable, you won't need more than 1 part to that. And you can fix that LED power thing with a resistor.
Yup, fan BLOWS

You should have connected the led before the switch so you could see when you had power or not.

that fan is spinning slow... usb only puts out 5.25 volts. fan needs the full 12volts to run at full rpm

@norge696 use a joule theif and a speed controller switch.

I did this for fun, I dont know much about volts. If you dont like it then you dont have to do it. It work for me and still works.

Do u have an idea that the fan ur usin has a 12 volt motor and a normal led is off 3.3 volts I repeat normal
whereas the current in usb cable is off somewhere around 3 i would say max 3 volts
but u still not overeloadin it
on th same hand too you all youtube guys
dont wast ur time doin this at ur home coz thats of no use it will look cool oh ya the fan is movein but that is it nothin more
sorry chief don't take me wrong :)

How long can u keep it running

Worked perfect thanks! Now fuck your your mother...

@feryxxx that is because a usb can only give about 5 units of power and a computer can give 12.
dudedxrox 1 year ago
Remove the LED and the fan will run slightly faster, you dont need the extra resistance, and its not like you can't tell whether its running anyway.

This overloads the usb fan usb?
grennssleevs 2 years ago
No I have had mine running several minutes with no problem.
chiefequationP 2 years ago
Could it not cause damage over time with the excessive load? I really want to try this idea but using a powered usb hub.
isawadeadfrog 2 years ago
how to connect the light to the fan? Need a transistor?
grennssleevs 2 years ago
I used a two prong LED and plug it into a plug that I got from a PC. Then connected the positive and negative wires to the switch.
