From 0:17-0:44, I know Daniel hurt his leg but, did that student named Bobby accidentally dislocate his leg? If so, I'm sure that was a good reason for Daniel to be excused where the referee won't have an objection. I have seen karate tournaments and I have seen karate people getting hurt and falling on the floor and all the referee says "come on suck it up", "come on act strong", etc. but, I wonder what happened to Daniel if something even worse happened to his leg than hurting it.
