Northern Thailand is a wonderful melting pot of cultures. In some hill tribe villages, Mandarin is still spoken, as are many odd dialects of Burmese, Thai, and Chinese. A trip into the mountains is always an adventure. I have run into some great Yunanese food in the most unlikely villages.
