  • Thank you so much for this awesome lesson .

  • hey, don't listen to the haters. you got some serious talent, and are nice enough to share it with the world. keep playin man and keep makin music from the heart.

  • Sounds just like Clapton, note for note. What are you guys hearing?

  • You don't have his vibrato down at all. You need to work on that.

  • en castellano como es pa?

  • very cool. but tasty.

  • this is not clapton lol

  • this dude is an idiot this is no way near clapton s style

  • @ohyescesc Whether you think it sounds like Clapton or not, this dude ain't no idiot. There's always something to learn in his vids, he knows his way around a guitar neck!

  • @ohyescesc you have to smile at people who are negative for absolutely no reason. It is supposed to be a Clapton STYLE lick, that's all. And of course easy enough for a "car wash" rock star wannabe to understand and play. <<<<<

  • the one to the one slide on the next string is pure BB King, no doubt a big influence on EC given the friendship they share...EC does make use of it alot, as do countless others

  • this lick is used to much but none the less for a beginner its a must

  • Again, these are Freddie King licks

  • I'D LIKE TO HEAR THOSE LICKS WITH THE FUZZ TONE

  • is A the only key you know?

  • and eric gives thanks to the kings for that while they pay homage to lightnin hopkins who extends his thanks to robert johnson who then........ :)

  • Thank you..great lesson.

  • Way cool!

  • People who are saying, "That's not Clapton-style" ... aaaah ... are wrong. Of course, any blues-based lick is going to sound at least a little like some other blues-based lick. It's the tempo and details of the vibrato that make is sound very Clapton-ish. Also, the way Jody attacks the intro licks is pure EC. Hey, guys, there are very few good blues licks that don't sound at lease somewhat familiar. The basis for these licks has been adapted and modified for nearly a century now.

  • Jody...u da man...!!

  • is that a 1958 strat

  • Thank you very much !

  • Planet Earth needs more people like you, man. People that make things from the heart, from inside!!

  • In a band right now... and I'm trying to improve on my improvising... that helped me pretty much... Will definately watch more of your lessons.

  • what key is this in?

  • @agreewitme A minor

  • Cool man, thanks from Brazil!!

  • cool man, nice little bit to add into the lick locker. the whole same note, different string is a BB King influence isnt it?

  • very good lesson thank u dude

  • thanks for the lesson

  • is that a vintage 60s strat?

  • thanks for your help ,your great

  • Hey, I recognize this Riff, but not from Eric Clapton, its from Billy Gibbons (ZZ TOP)

from the song, Well Im bad...Im nation wide etc....

All you have to do is slow it down and change up the Riff just a little and you have the Intro to the song...

I have never heard Clapton play like this, but perhaps I am not that familiar with Clapton as I am ZZ top !!!!

  • yeah bro youre right, its not clapton, im pretty much his #1 fan, but none the less, its a good lick to try to develope some kind of aggression in the blues playing.

  • It does sound somewhat like Billy but that sounds more like Buddy!

  • @WhiteTrashFarmer It sounds like CCR's Green River

  • @WhiteTrashFarmer neither one of 'em invented it. ;-)

  • @WhiteTrashFarmer it's actually a freddie king style lick who clapton was majorly influenced by and whom he covered(hideaway). and of course billy was no doubt influenced by freddie as well.

  • Really cool lesson. Thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks so much for posting this!

  • the last two notes are the same

  • Exactly correct. Eric often switches strings to hit the same note in order to get a better VIBRATO. It's very important to him,(and others as well: S.R.V., Leslie West, Billy Gibbons, etc.) Alot of emphesis is placed on the vibrato, if you don't get that right, you'll mess the whole thing up, if you're trying to sound like Clapton.

  • Hey, On a standard strat, sss, does the bridge pickup work best for this lick?

  • What exactly are you talking about? who are you to tell me what type of guitars suck. If you know anything about guitars than you would know that a guitar is a very personal preference. What guitar is best is for the player to decide. Fender Strats are the most comfortable and most unique guitars (in tone) I have ever played. You wouldn't tell Jimi Hendrix or any other guitar hero's that the guitar they choose sucks.

  • lol no douche

  • i agree, gibsonz are the best

  • actually PRS are the best

  • actually its personal preference

  • you're high off your ass....

  • Eric Clapton will most often use the neck-pickup, I think. That's the most suitable. The bridge pickup would be kinda too twangy :-/

  • Oh, okay thanks!

  • At the Cream reunion in May of 2005 Clapton used the middle pick up during all four shows. I don't think he use the neck pu that much...

  • Really? o.O

Never seen him use that pickup myself. Personally, I never use it.

  • No, offcourse you don't use it! It's in his guitar:-) Ha ha ha....

Seriously, he actually used it for all the shows, or so it seems. After I saw him do that, I tried to do it myself to figure out why. Well, the middle pu sounds very good when you play Cream stuff and you're not using a Gibson, so I can understand why he did it. He obviously turned the tonepot down a bit to cut the highs, and he had a great sound during those shows. Hey, search for them here at youtube:-)

  • Personaly I thought his strat sounded like shit on his Cream stuff. Too thin. Not like the old Cream. Even if he did turn the tone down it just didnt sound right. His strat didnt even sustain well. A humbucker would have helped or just go back to an SG or Les Paul, Thats my opinion, aparently he doesnt care.

  • Personal taste I guess. I loved his Strat sound during the reunion. Much better than his "usual" tone IMO. They, Cream, tried to use some of the old gear at reherseals, but at their age it didn't work with Gibsons and Marshalls. I don't think it has anything to do with "Clapton don't care". He has a endorsement deal with Fender, so they might've wished for him to use Strats only...? Who knows....

  • Clapton has said he doesn't like the necks on Gibson guitars... he said his vision would be a Les Paul with a Strat neck, which is why he has the midrange boost on his Strat. I'm guessing after 40 years of being a Strat player, going back to the Gibson-style now would have been awkward for him.

  • I know what your saying about the Gibson neck. I dont like like playing my Les Paul for that reason. The neck on my Strat feels so natural. But at least i have the humbucker that thickens the tone, and Clapton should do something similar. Listen to Rik Emmet cover Cream on youtube, he has a fat strat and it sounds like the old Cream. Claptons guitar doesnt even have good sustain, on the Cream shows. Clapton should buy one of Johnny Rushmores Stratopaul guitars. Hes on youtube.

  • yeah youre right, clapton also said he doesnt like the weight of the gibsons, said its tough to carry one for over 2 hours in a hot concert arena, trying to concentrate on playing the guitar and sing. thats the first reason i heard of him dropping the gibson, cus strats are much lighter, he just whips them around(not literally)

  • That's my feeling on the Les Paul too.

  • from the looks of the vidio,

he seems to be using the center pick up

  • look at the switch...its in the middle

  • what exactly are the "weird words" in this video, and what is so annoying? his lessons are easily understood, visually well-presented/clear, and the licks are musically relevant & useful. nice work jody!

  • Wow thats a cool eric clapton lick and yes your right everyone uses it. Thanks for the lick I can easily use it in one of my solos. Some times a lick or two helps.

  • You guys have got to start listenin to more records ( cds ) and less visual devices man. Train the ear and work the fret board up and down the neck!

  • he usess well wierd words for every video he doess its so annoying but you teach well .

  • your weird

  • letss dive on itt lmao

  • That vibrato just kills me...great sound.

  • I cant look at this guy's face without thinking about Joe Walsh

  • not sure how close to clapton's style that is, but awsome blues lick!!! thanks

  • Jody is a good teacher but "eric clapton is god"

  • Nothing like Eric really but its still good.

  • little tip might be a preference thing but I think it sounds pretty neat to play the last note on the 9th fret and bend it up to A, gives it a more flashy sound. Great video!

  • this is awesome, great lesson

its really good to see these licks used in contex

  • Loving this lesson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jody ... great sound .. man you rock !

  • Jody, as usual, great delivery!

  • Always enjoy your lessons ... thank you ...

    Don ...

  • If you don't mind me asking, what model Stratocaster is that?

  • 1st comment

  • Niiice guitar lick. Awesome lick.

  • nice vid, ive found that putting my third finger on the 10th fret of the D string during the first sliding part gives it a richer bluesier, clapton-esque tone
