  • and what happened next ? Where is the rest of the film?

  • Too bad they launched it on a cloudy day. Also, now, too late we understand the need for stabilization. The camera was buffeted by the turbulent wake of its own balloon. mount it on a carbon fiber shaft such as the heavy end of a carbon fiber fishing pole-- with horizontal shaft, having windvanes to prevent rotation.

  • the guy at the beginning reminded me of the mad hatter from the new alice in wonderland trailer....

  • I guess now that Pres. Obama has cancelled Constellation, this is as close as Americans are going to get to space exploration in our lifetime. Hopefully the Chinese will keep letting you do projects like this once they own the sky...

  • Nice pants. Pretty dressy for a balloon launch!

  • It's good to see that fashion sense prevails. One must always dress for the occasion!

  • with baloon there was phone with android that sends sms with position every few minutes

  • Man how are u going to find back that ballon???

  • thats cool

  • Is there footage of it falling back to earth?

  • Sadly, no, but we may have that for the next launch, once we work out triggering cameras from the USB port on the phone.

  • Those pants are fantastic

  • You'd think they would have lowered the sound on this. It sounds like stuff is really rattling around in there.

  • What the hell are you wearing!

  • are you talking about the odd striped pants and combat boots? lol

  • Those pants are Hipsterrific! Nice video though. Cool. It would be nice to see a horizontal view. Stabilized so it's not so shaky. And these guys need to watch out for planes!

  • git

  • /congrats thats amazing, and you made it onto Wired, pluse awesome trousers to the guy at the beggining

  • camera is shaking like dogs balls... annoying as hell :]

  • Next flight, PLEASE do something to eliminate that super annoying rattling noise.

Other than that minor cavil, well done. Very well done, indeed!

  • it is called mute, you dumb shit

  • My, what a rude little child you are. Does your mommy know you're using her computer to write naughty words on YouTube?

  • I thought the sounds were great... eerie and lonely sounding as the craft left Earth. Did this thing crash and die?

  • It landed about 20 miles from the launch point apparently and they picked it up from the onboard gps.

  • Hanging your camera from a steady-cam gimbaled set up might help a lot - surprisingly good images considering.

  • It appeared to me that the box might have been rotating independently of the balloon's rotation. Perhaps connecting the box to the balloon with two lines might reduce the amount of rotation of the camera to that of the balloon (the lines might twist, but there may be a way to counter that as well). Cool project.

  • Or maybe just put Falcon Heene in the box.

  • LOVE IT. And one easy way to keep parts warm might be pack them next to camping/hunting hand warmers, the kind you mush up to start an exothermic reaction.

  • You could use SilicaGel flocks to fill the empty space of the box to prevent humidity condensation. Maybe something to warm inside the box to.

We can change emails/ideas before next launch!!!

That's all !!! Way to go till now!

  • Hi Guys! That's really great idea! ;-)

You need a vertical stabilizer (like a airplane) to direct the "Labox" to the same direction of the wind, would be enough...The string needs to be attached in a skate wheel bearing to gain one degree of freedom related to the balloon, then balloon's rotation will not transmitted to Labox...

  • Do you have a video of the falling-back-to-earth?
