  • Haha, when we were little, we used to pick 'em off the trees and chase girls with them back in Lubbock. Not very good when it comes to wearing it like a ring. Great crunching sound though.

  • Breep, breep.

  • Nice!

  • Unless you raise 'em it's hard to catch one in the moulting phase. Well done!

  • ive seen one molt b4, it was at night, it looked so freakin cool, although it took about 30 minutes for it to be done. =P

  • it's disgusting LOL

  • Dude I hate those things, I live in NJ and this year they were freaking everywhere

  • consider yourself lucky, they only emerge once ever 17 years.

  • As I understand it, different broods emerge at different intervals (some are 13 yrs). There is some brood or another emerging every year. Those who study these animals know when particularly large broods are due.

  • yea, we just had our 17 year ones, and damn were they loud

  • One of those scared the freak out of me in Australia one dark rainy night, it landed on my shoulder and I screamed like a girl

  • beautey

  • SLAP!!!!

  • hahaha... poor bug...

  • Yeah....thats cool and all nature wise....but it's like disgusting ewwww.

  • Oh... that was a quote from an old Oingo Boingo tune. All life is sacred in my book. :)

  • Having spent six weeks in Japan, I was astounded by the absence of obesity in their culture. I looked around at my western companions and saw FAT people all around. I would like to see a greater global, cultural acceptance of the need to preserve marine mammals, including Japan. On the other hand, I have never walked the urban streets of any US city at night and felt as safe as I did anywhere in Japan. The experience gave me a new definition of civility that I will always treasure.

  • Cicadas are the fabric of summertime in Dallas, Texas, where I grew up. Watching them emerge and collecting their shells gave us much joy. Last year I was in Ueno Park in Tokyo and enjoyed the Cicada's song. I collected Cicada shells there to add to my collection. The Japanese Cicadas leave shells that are lighter in color and a little smaller than those in Texas. Thanks for posting this.

  • I enjoy.

  • Cicadas are terrible, archaic creatures who aught to be pushed to extinction by better species.

  • Yeah I agree Very Sexy. Right?

  • WOW, that video is amazing.

  • those fucking bugs are so damn annoying.

  • What's the matter with you? What does eating the Japanese eating dolphins, whales and horses have to do with cicadas??? I like to eat cicadas. I might have been slipped horse meat in my burger once or twice. I eat a lot of tuna, so we got the dolphin covered there. I going to eat a whale this Saturday, so that'll settle that. Any questions?

  • Eating a whale..? <_O

  • Eating a whale..? <_O

  • BURN IN HELL RACIST SUNSABITCH =)

  • I like it- the sound was greate!

  • Cool!

  • very sexy

  • COOL. We've got tons of these things where I'm from, & I've found a whole bunch of their shells lying around, but I've never gotten to see them actually moulting. That was AWESOME.

  • neato

  • Interesting!

  • if ur gonn awaist ur time saying eww or i hate bug then dont watch the vid god damn it

  • its not a metamorphasis jackass its shedding its skin

  • sexy

  • eww,

  • Cool. My daughter and I have been collecting cicadas since she was very little and too see this, was terrific. Thanks a bunch.

  • wow... this was a waste of my time

  • This is not moulting, this is metamorphosis. Moulting is what millipedes and crabs do, change shells.

  • They are moulting they just do it on the sides of trees

  • Very cool. I love these. I'm born and raised in Florida where we have all kinds of creepy crawlies. You learn to appreciate them. I always played with these as a child (and still do when I find them). But frogs are my favorite!

  • rainbowwarrior stfu

  • yeah,thats pretty sick.

  • i hate bugs...

  • it is very nice .you are so funny .yen

  • cool...i've learn dis but dis is d 1st time i saw them in real..

  • Simply amazing footage.

The cicadas here have just started their humming - it's great when that happens because it means summer and christmas are almost here!

  • I remember 1985 and 2002. Two good years. The years of the cicada. Can't wait for 2019!!!

  • That is very interseting

  • Wow, one simple, non-serious comment got me a lot of hate mail.. I think i should make a video of myself drowning grasshoppers or something to get some negative press.

  • Or drowning yourself to get positive press. I'd prefer that.

  • I agree it needs a few more frames but that was very cool :) Keep up the good work!

  • Nice work

  • I am living in Japan thats why I know what I am saying. That part is not because they are racist its because a lot of foreigners do not know how to act.

  • how to act, they shouldnt expect us to understand their customs, they should realise that taboos in japan r not necaceraly taboos elsewere

  • I've never eaten any meat other than poultry but I'm told cicadas taste exactly like cashews.

  • Give me a fucking break. Cicadas are as harmless as birds and butterflies. I love all bugs, and anyone who thinks they're scary or ugly is a dumbass that deserves to be punched. Grow up please.

  • And I hate people who hate bugs. Seriously, don't be a pussy and an idiot.

  • espetacular... nice... lindo... meu favorito!

  • What does this have to do with Mine Sweeper?

  • Very nice!

  • Yes... yes... it is good!

  • they are gross and annoying

  • yum

  • Rad. Ah, the memories. I went to get on my bike one summer and there was a cicada hanging to the milk crate on the bike rack. I hooked him on the side of some concrete stairs, and I almost left, but I stayed and watched. It took forever, but I'm glad I stayed. Nice video!!!

  • I've never really seen one moult and I've always been really curious but I am really scared of those things but now I have seen one and haven't had to be near it. Awesome.

  • Insects make me scream and shout

They don't know what life's about

They have no blood, got too many legs

They've got no brains inside their heads
