Haha, when we were little, we used to pick 'em off the trees and chase girls with them back in Lubbock. Not very good when it comes to wearing it like a ring. Great crunching sound though.

I can't believe people actually LIKEe cicada's. I lived in Arkansas for about a year and those ugly noisy bugs were ALL OVER THE DAMN PLACE. I couldn't go outside without my hair in a ponytail.
I photographed what I thought was a live bug and someone informed me it was a shell from a cicada. Searched YouTube and found this video, which confirmed the identification I was given. Thanks for the very valuable post!
im still waiting for us humans to do a nucleur war, kill 6billion of us, let the rest die in fall out, then let the world have peace and tranquility, seriously we suck ass at living
hey, whats so great being human? we suck at living, yes, for some, life is good and easy, but thats just plain careless, like all of us, so enjoy, joire de viore....
one night my cat caught one of those things and i picked it up without even thinking and it freakin started buzzing in my hands 0.0 it scared me to death just about i hate those things but still awesomeness vid!
As I understand it, different broods emerge at different intervals (some are 13 yrs). There is some brood or another emerging every year. Those who study these animals know when particularly large broods are due.
Oh fuck off! I like the sounds of cicadas! They're like music to my ears! ^__^ Wow! Pretty cool to see them molting before my eyes.^-^ UGH! Whoever hates insects should fucking die already! Fucktards!=P
Having spent six weeks in Japan, I was astounded by the absence of obesity in their culture. I looked around at my western companions and saw FAT people all around. I would like to see a greater global, cultural acceptance of the need to preserve marine mammals, including Japan. On the other hand, I have never walked the urban streets of any US city at night and felt as safe as I did anywhere in Japan. The experience gave me a new definition of civility that I will always treasure.
Cicadas are the fabric of summertime in Dallas, Texas, where I grew up. Watching them emerge and collecting their shells gave us much joy. Last year I was in Ueno Park in Tokyo and enjoyed the Cicada's song. I collected Cicada shells there to add to my collection. The Japanese Cicadas leave shells that are lighter in color and a little smaller than those in Texas. Thanks for posting this.
What's the matter with you? What does eating the Japanese eating dolphins, whales and horses have to do with cicadas??? I like to eat cicadas. I might have been slipped horse meat in my burger once or twice. I eat a lot of tuna, so we got the dolphin covered there. I going to eat a whale this Saturday, so that'll settle that. Any questions?
COOL. We've got tons of these things where I'm from, & I've found a whole bunch of their shells lying around, but I've never gotten to see them actually moulting. That was AWESOME.
Very cool. I love these. I'm born and raised in Florida where we have all kinds of creepy crawlies. You learn to appreciate them. I always played with these as a child (and still do when I find them). But frogs are my favorite!
Wow, one simple, non-serious comment got me a lot of hate mail.. I think i should make a video of myself drowning grasshoppers or something to get some negative press.

Give me a fucking break. Cicadas are as harmless as birds and butterflies. I love all bugs, and anyone who thinks they're scary or ugly is a dumbass that deserves to be punched. Grow up please.
Rad. Ah, the memories. I went to get on my bike one summer and there was a cicada hanging to the milk crate on the bike rack. I hooked him on the side of some concrete stairs, and I almost left, but I stayed and watched. It took forever, but I'm glad I stayed. Nice video!!!
I've never really seen one moult and I've always been really curious but I am really scared of those things but now I have seen one and haven't had to be near it. Awesome.
