  • Has nice sound. But what if you matched this with a solid state type amp?

  • That's a shit ton of low end.

  • I have owned one of these pedals for a few years now. I play with an Epiphone Les Paul custom ( trying to get some new pick-ups) into a Peavy classic 30. Love this pedal. While I wouldnt suggest it for Death Metal, it can certainly get heavy if you want it to. I have pulled some classic Metallica sounds out of it before and then within moments getting a nice Jeff Buckly Hallelujah tone out of it, extremely versatile and more than worth it. I highly recommend it for any eclectic player.

  • 300 bucks

  • Dudes, i want to buy this pedal for heavy metal staff... ( I play death metal )!

Do i proceed for purchase or not ?

  • @sToNeHells Karl Sanders uses this in his band Nile.

  • @sToNeHells Death Metal uhmmm, this thing have lots of gain but for death metal uhmmmm better get something a more modern pedal

  • @sToNeHells Check out the Line 6 Uber Metal .

  • how much is this? USD?

  • I AM SOLD!!!

  • This sounds like a killer all-around distortion pedal. It also sounds absolutely nothing like a Plexi. For this money, you'd be better off getting a Bugera Plexi Clone 1960. Very good Plexi sound for $450ish.

  • This guys voice is a little spooky sounding....

  • @MrJonguess haha, you reckon?

  • Good tone but for way less the Behringer Monster Tube Overdrive can get you to the same tones or for the same money get a hand made Butler Tube Driver.. 300 bucks is a lot of money for a stock pedal...

  • How you get the pedal to stay quiet? Channel one is ok. But channel two is ridiculously noisy. The pedal has an insane amount of gain. But it colors your tone when you turn it on in my opinion. And sounds like you turned on a pedal, I tried a carl martin plexi.....and that pedal is very good. It does'nt color your amps tone and sounds very natural. But does'nt have the same amount of gain that the plexitube does.

  • @byronh77 I kind of got the impression that this was "supposed" to color your tone.. i.e., make your amp sound like a marshall.

  • i prefer the AMT M1.. it's more open sounding than the tonebone..

  • van halen, alright

  • Comment removed

  • This or the Provalve2?

  • How come nobody ever shows how these drive pedals react to your guitars volume knob. This is the thing I'm interested in. It's really hard to judge a pedal just from the amount of drive you can get.

  • Very good pedal.

  • I would make a plea to them to review a Maxon Real Overdrive pedal.

  • what with this sound like though a solidstate amp ie. Marshall mg100dfx?

  • @PRussy666 No pedal can make that POS sound good. Sorry, but it's true.

  • Since this pedal has a tube/preamp, should it be placed in the effects loop to bypass my amps preamp?

  • Need your opinion . . . this Radial Tonebone or Fulltone GT500 or Lovepedal Provalve?

  • 7:08 whole lotta love - led zeppelin

  • How quiet are these pedals? I tried out a Visual Sound V2RT66 Route 66 recently and couldn't believe what a noisy, hissy P.O.S. it was.

  • I tried many and many pedals..but when I have bought the Plexitube I knew I had found THE SOUND ...for me the best pedal ever since man invented the guitar.. :-)))

  • Comment removed

  • very detailed :)

  • Is it possible to use fx loop for clean tone ( i.e. in true bypass mode) ?

  • @Rividoul no and I believe its strictly on channel 2 on it also. but thats good because if you use channel 2 for solos you can leave a little delay in the fx loop and leave it on, not ever worry about it then when you turn on your lead channel 2 you will have some delay, switch back to 1 and it goes away.

  • I expect Mr. Steinbrenner of Seinfeld to show his head any minute now

  • What is true bypass?

  • @dieandgoaway True bybass is when you turn the pedal off, your signal completely bypasses the pedal as if it's no longer in your signal chain,so it does not suck any of your tone when it's turned off.

  • @dieandgoaway lol

  • I own this pedal along with about 10 other distortion pedals. The Plexitube may be the best of them all. Very usable organic sound with adjustabilty and features, all in a high quality product. Did I say this thing sounds great? I`m very happy (or is it lucky) to have made the decision to buy this one.

  • Marshall in a box.

  • @shotgunsteve93 true dat

  • hey i am wondering what one i should get for punk/trash metal the plexitube or the hot brittish tube?

  • does this pedal do that classic rock midrange boosted marshall tone?

  • How big is that thing?

  • I've had one of these...This one is the best distortion pedal I've heard. No other pedal sounds like this one. Even not the London Bones has such a nice sound. The only problem with this pedal is that the insert plug easily oxidates and so the pedal will breake down. So if you have one of these you maybe should take the insert plug out of the chain....

    Great Video, Thumbs up :)

  • Which one should i get the PLEXITUBE or the TRIMODE? Which one does less "hiss" or "hum"?

  • tonebone or nova drive?

  • Hi it seems to be a great pedal, i have few question, i'm 16 and i live in quebec and i can understand but not all. if i understood, there's 2 volume one for channel 1 and the other for channel 2. we can use the channel 1 for rythm, and we can put more volume into the second channel for solos??is it a good pedal if i play things like Green Day, AC/DC, Guns n roses and blues??

it would be appreciated if you answer me! thanks a lot!!!

  • @lespaulultra712 yeah man, separate volume for each channel. and it is perfect for rock, blues and metal.

  • Don't spend 300 bucks on this. I'd like to send mine back...

  • i own this pedal, and i dont think it is worth the price, souns good with a tube amp, really shitty with a solid state

  • 300 well spent bucks... I wish I had 300 bucks to get this...

  • Tone wise, just how different is this than the Hot British...Gain levels sound similar, and I have an FX loop I use in my amp for delay and reverb so I dont see the need for that. They both seem to get the crispy early live VH brown sound.

  • For a fuller darker sound slash style works great after a Maxon OD-9, for brighter EVH style sound better a Maxon OD-9 Pro, I've gone for this setting ans is unbelivable.

  • i bought this pedal about two weeks ago and i absolutly fell in love with it. endless possibilities, tonality is amazing. Love it.

  • i just order this pedal today at musician friend for $255 total i got 15percent off for the weekend only price. i told them guitar cent give 15percent off will u match they price they said yes. that is all i will pay not $299. cause $300 is too much for a pedal.

  • i am running this boy into the clean ch of my peavey valveking, this thing kills the peaveys lead channel, it is my baby.

i would tattoo tone bone across my hips if i could.

  • can you get a good guns n' roses/aerosmith tone out of this?

  • How would this work after an TS808 Tube Screamer? Thanks

  • Are you using the ts as a booster? if so, you wouldn't need it anymore, since this one delivers enough distortion by its own.

  • Really sounds awesome. I serously thinking of substituting it with my JVM. Even with a dummy load it does not provide this level of distortion and brown sound.

  • will this pedal sound the sme or good on an ibanez rg 350 and a bugera v22 vintage tube amp?

  • yes, kind of.. the bugera is pure tube tone so its cool :) buy it

  • I agree!!

  • @12345678ix

bugera+ibanez=killer + this pedal= even more killer... go for it...

  • This pedal rips wow very nice!

  • man i like the sound from this pedal but for the price they asking for $300+tax HELL NO ! the most i will pay for this pedal is $250 walk out ! and they never go down the price i check every where!

  • i play in a cover band, we play maiden and metallica, some van halen ecc... i'm the lead guitarist....should i get the hot british or this? i think this is more of a preamp, while the hot brit is just a pedal...

  • well man with this pedal what you will get is VINTAGE SOUND, metallica sounds more modern, honnestly i own this pedal and i wouldnt reccomend it for the price they are asking for it, unless youre into jimmy hendrix kind of stuff, doesnt sound studio like distortion either, if you want vintage go for the carl martin plexitone, and if you want modern like creed and stuff go for something else.

  • For what you're playing, I would go with the plexitube.

  • for my style of playing, hendrixy and rhcp, plexitone from carl martin sounds more open and has more presence.. this tonebone sounds like pure mud, boring.

  • Kirk Hammet uses the hot brit.

  • hot brotish is the same that one of chanel in this pedal

  • @TheDimebag94 If you play live get the Plexi. It has an effects loop on Ch.2. and you can set different gain levels w/ the internal trim pot. Also no pedal recreates the brown sound as well as the Plexi-Tube.

  • FEEL YOUR LOVE TONIGHT!

  • i don't really like the sound of this pedal although it has a real tube in it.. sounds too dark or just boring. the demos of the carl martin plexitone i found really better in tone.. but i might have to try both out with my gear. but for THIS price i expected a better plexi emulation... sound NOTHING like a plexi here

  • I'v got the same Pedal to sell (4 month old) for low price.

  • could you use this as an overdrive pedal/

if you did how would it sound?

  • cool. I'm going to buy that one.

  • To me it sounds more JCM800 than 1959 SuperLead, but whatever... great tube overdrive, Marshall-syle, from a pedal. And very versatile. Good product.

  • I want awesome marshall type tone but heavy enough to play death metal with

would this do the trick, does it have enough gain and crunch?

  • Comment removed

  • This pedal was expensive!

But I use the first channel as an overdrive to boost a slighty dirty channel. I find the second channel a too thick for my style of playing. But if you are a tone-a-holic looking for tone, its a good buy. Might trade it for another pedal later on. But its still awesome.

  • the mid boost on this sounds weird...

  • The Love Pedal Purple Plexi 800 is way better than this pedal.

  • it all sounds a bit choked, none of these tones sreamed Jimmy Page to me, more like bad amateur metal mayhem

  • Cudos for the professional look. Inspires me for my pedal.

  • How does this pedal handle detuned guitars? Also what type of mags in pups for this video? How relaible are these and has anyone tried NOS tubes in this or other mods like caps or increasing plate V a little more?

  • i own it, is not worth the money, too hard to find good tones, the second gain sucks big time.

  • It sounds pretty good to me if you're looking for a plexi tone. The controls seem pretty easy and straight forward.

What type of tone were you looking for...maybe you need another type of pedal?

  • yelow channel rocks, red channel sucks, simple as that.

  • Can this pedal do thrash metal?

  • this pedal cost way too much$300 the most i will pay for this pedal is$200 it just one sound distortion

  • Not really... Tons of tweaking in here. Starved plate tube, but regardless, sounds great!

  • If you don't know how to dial in tones, yes...

  • I can;t weight to feel your love tonight hehehe cool riff!!!

is this anything like the pedal eric johnson uses?

  • If you are looking for an Eric Johnson sound check out the Kanji Lovepedal Classic Distortion. It's great.

  • No, look at the tonebone trimode or the classic.

  • the true bypass switch...does that let any amp go from clean to the distortion?

  • true bypass means that when the pedal is off, it is completely off, and there won't be any coloring of your tone.

  • yeah. any bypass switch does this. 'true bypass' means when the pedals off it won't affect your signal at all. it'll be like it wasnt there.

  • @jimmybob2007 No, some bypass switches are true bypass, some are hard bypass, some are buffered bypass.

  • That's mostly true, and well explained, but; even true bypass pedals affect your tone when they're off. A pedal has not been invented yet that does not affect your tone while bypassed.

  • Hey, I have a 65 Soho also. Was wondering what settings you had for the EVH tones. I have other amps I use when I play VH covers, but if I could get those out of my Soho, it'd be great!!!

  • Well, that was about a year ago so I can't tell you exact. The volume was just before breakup, around 3 and the bump was off. The pedal is really responsible for the EVH tone though!

    Andy

  • @madkaw636 man i want a soho. those amps sound amazing

  • Feel your love tonight by Van Halen BABY!

  • hiii ! I am from mexico but I am going to Usa soon, do you now in what store can I find this pedal ?? , it will be so useful to me to know =)

  • Maybe Guitar Center

  • At PGS of course. In Escondido (San Diego), you can go to Super Sound Music. Tell Brian (the boss) Jean-Paul the luthier from Belgium sent you to his shop.

  • If this has a 12AX7 tube in it, do you need to replace it (like an amp)?

  • They're designed to last a few years. But you can still replace it if you want.

  • The tube in it last for a Pretty long while, it comes stock with a Ruby !2ax7a, not really my taste so i replaced that tube with a Tung-Sol 12ax7. The Tung- Sol tube gave the pedal a fuller and rounder sound plus a little bit more and a low end

  • So between $100 and $150 or so, which pedal gets the best Marshall JTM 45 sound through let's say a Fender '59 Bassman at about volume 4 or 5. I know you can get the tone if you turn the amp up alone, but club owners would kick the band out if we did that. Which is the most versatile amp? For getting Clapton (when he was Clapton with a 'Paul) or Duane Allman/Dickie Betts tone? thanks

  • You need coolin, baby, Im not foolin !!!!!!

    love the tone. 5*

  • REALLY GOOD DEMO!!

  • I own a Randall T2 head (high gain amp) and I would like to combine it with a distortion pedal to get more option and a variety on gain-distortion -mainly- sounds. Do you think this pedal is good for this?

  • For sure, if you want a few high gain options, I'd say use the T2's distortion channel for heavy stuff and get something like a more vintage sounding OD like a fulltone fulldrive 2 or a ts808. I'm not a big fan of the 808 but many people seem to favor it.

  • which pedal gets a more 50 watt JTM45 tone this pedal or the Electro Harmonix English Muff'n? I had the zvex Box of Rock and the Carl Martin Plexi and both did well, but as the gig would progress I found that they really started to compress as the evening went on. I test it then with my Tube Screamer and that did not compress...however I can't get the Plexi tone with the TS. Thanks for your help.

  • would u say ya could get a good evh sound with this pedal?

  • I can get it near on the money with it,and with the EVH,modulation pedals its the closest ive ever gotten to his sound and I dont even have high gain amps..Carl Martin makes a good plexi tone also.

  • Man, I SO want this pedal. WOW... and the DRIVE is on 4!!!!!

  • radial is the real stuff

  • good pedal but i think the price is way too much $299+tax! may be for $200 by the way it just have distortion sound only!!!

  • But you can dial in pretty much any Plexi tone imaginable, very authentic tone. And you get more gain than most Plexi can churn out anyway. Also, you can dial in a Vox type tone with the mid boost at 12db. Definitely worth the money in the long term I reckon...

  • Check out the "Hot British" one channel same tone's no FX loop less money.

  • good demo--pro shop has almost become like a public service,,this demo works because i know this pedal its very good at what it does, but can clash a bit with your other effects

that said, this is an excellent product , a great way to get that big brit sound without spending £2000 on a classic stack,,prefer the plexi 2 other radial products, a/b it against a real marshall , it is supprisingly good for the money

  • This might be the best, most Versatile over drive pedal ever made.

  • How owuld a Strat sound on this pedal?

  • I think it would sound ofcourse different than axis music man or les paul but the sound should be very good especially with h-s-s. Im going to but it but only when i get a tube amp.

  • Very good demo!

  • Which is better.... Trimode or Plexitube??

  • i think the plexitube is better. man i went out and got the boss gt 8 one year ago and really don't use the boss that much and did not like the distortion is not bad but i just don't like it. if i knew abourt this pedal tonebone plexitube i would get this for sure!! the boss got some really cool sound but not the distortion

  • Tone at 7:33 is amazing.

  • Finally a demo with a really good guitar player :D

  • kirk hammett and kerry king both have this in their rig. amazing pedal. too bad it's 300 bucks =(

  • it's not much... go play on a street and learn some songs on acoustic guitar and of course sing along it and ... at least at our country... you can earn much more money by just playing there than working some cheap slaveryjob :D.

  • I have a Randall rg-300 (solid state) thats mainly a clean amp. I bought a plexitube to dirty it up but didnt really get the results i wanted. if you're going to buy one of these to put in front of a solid state amp, i would definitely try it first. In front of a clean tube amp however, it sounds amazing

  • How did you route yor signal?

  • Comment removed

  • nice tones, but i think the eq section affects the volume too much, and the drive doesnt affect it enough

  • feel your love tonight!!!! love that riff!

  • how would this pedal or any tube distortion pedal sound with a solidstate marshall head? i wish i had the money for a tube amp but it's not happening anytime soon :(

  • just dont buy Marshall MG !!! They soudsh terible. Try to get some all- tube amp and dont buy any digital things. Try to get some peavey ValveKing 112 or 212 or head, they are awesome. Peavey VK have awesome drive and it costs like marshall solid state amp. Then you can get some pedal like this. But i recomend to buy peavey and then buy some BOSS or IBANEZ or Maybe even Marshall GV pedal to boost gain. I own Marshall DSL halfstack and it isn't much beter than peavey valveking.

  • buy a fender blues jr. one of the best budget tube amps out right now. can play over a band with it

  • Indeed, if you can get an MG, you can get a used fender HotRod or Deville or peavey valve, or wait/stretch just a bit more for marshall tube used, they are out there. The MG series, sadly, yet predictably, is a box of sterile styrofome cheeze..no matter what you put in front of it. Heck even the new bogner/line six deals slay an MG.

  • Is it possible to get sounds on the Boss GT-10 that are similar to what this can do?

  • not really, a modern valve amp would do these tones well ... like peavey valveking

  • yes. the gt-10 has some very warm marshall tones. (the tech 21 sansamp units all sound great too.) there are just as many crappy sounding valve amps out there as there are crappy sounding digital units. the plexitube is an analog pedal...so are the sansamp units. the gt-10 is digital, but is sounds excellent after some EQ tweaking.

  • a great pedal

  • does this thing comes with reverb effect ? sorry ppl i'm kinda newbie on effects

  • nope it don't

go with boss for a wicked delay pedal instead of reverb,

or get a tremelo and barely put it on wiht a reverb after it

  • Why would you want a tremolo pedal?

  • @Kables, lots of songs you've heard use them. Listen for a week and you'll notice. Mainly country/ blues but lots of other stuff too, from mild to on/off kind of tremolo ( a volume change, not vibrato)

  • hey people what is the different beteewn the tonebone TM and the tonebone PT?

  • the trimode is voiced after the classic and the plexitube is voiced after the hot british. the trimode also has 2 gain stages while the plexitube has 3.

  • this pedal sound good the best i heard so far. but between this one and the hot british tube which one is better? i'm more of a hard rock and metal guitar player.

  • This is way better. I play mostly hard rock and some metal, dream theater and such, and this thing eats anything heavy. Doesn't matter if you're going from 80's hair metal to DT or Metallica or Testament or whatever. This thing totally rocks.

  • This pedal is AMAZING!! Quite simply the best distortion pedal i've EVER heard. You will not be dissappointed!!!

  • I am looking for a destorshion pedal that will do 90's rock..as in old greenday and other smooth scooped mids when a power chord is played.. I currently have the ocd, boc and maxam od 808.. they have there obvous uses but not what i just described... will this pedal do it for me?

  • me want tonebone

  • i play with a les paul and a marshall vintagemodern 2266. and i need a distortion, is this a perfect one for this marshall???

  • Depends.

Old school rock...VanHalen, ACDC, ZZ Top....yes.

    New metal...no.

    Get one, and try it.

  • I've got a Fender Hotrod Deluxe 1 x 12. Its got amazing tone, but it doesn't have the drive I need to play heavier music, would you guys recommend this pedal, the Zakk Wylde Overdrive, or the Tubescreamer?

  • Its all subjective,so probably you are the only one who knows what compliments your style the most, but Ive played all of those pedals and this spanks them in every way in my opinion.the true bypass, and options alone are worth the extra 180 bucks. And it simply sounds better.

  • dude, the pedal u need depends on how heavy the music u wanna play really is.

I think the Radial has way 2 many knobs!!

I play thru a '65 twin reverb and i use a Carl Martin Plexitone for heavy kind of playing (hard rock like ACDC, Ozzy, Whitesnake) to make my Les Paul sound like if i were playing thru a Marshall Half Stack. But i would also recommend OD/Dist pedals that are more versatiles, i use the Fulltone OCD and the Hermida Zendrive to do the trick!

  • this pedal is incomparable to a tubescreamer or any other overdrive this thing litterally will turn your amp into a shaking stack. really tightens up the lows. call a guitar store and talk to them there, i have the same amp and i'm getting it for a 'saosin' type of sound, i've played it and it feels good.

  • I have and use all of the pedals you mention. The plexitube blows them away. There are a lot of controls due to the fact it has 2 channels and an effects loop. Great low end ans tone wise equals the tube screamer. My opinion...Zakks OD pedal is crap. I dont know anybody that uses one.

  • does anyone know if you can get a good bassy rythm sound with this? because every demo i find is a bunch of high end shredding or scooped mid type stuff. PLZ HELP

  • Yes you can . These pedals are super versatile and the sweep on the knobs is really sensitive. What you might want to think about also is what amp your playing this pedal through.

If you are looking for more of a blues crunch then you might want to also try the Tone Bone Classic. Good luck

  • Just got this pedal in this morning. Been playing and messing around with it non-stop. Truly the best distortion pedal I've ever used (and I've gone through my share).

  • I hear ya,I bought this and liked it so much a went for the trimode the next day to replace the tube screamer for classic rock/blues tones I had been using..Just love the tone versatility and price, best bang for the buck pedals out ther in my opinion. This,Evh mxr phase 90,and evh flange, through my triple recto, crazy brown sound, closest to the origional ive ever gotten my rig ever,Radial Tone bone rocks.

  • One of few on youtube who actually play Back in Black right, you are awesome Andy!

  • anyone knw how much it will cost if i want it shipped to singapore???!!

  • What amp was this played on?

  • a 65amps SOHO

  • I don't want to start an argument BUT which would be better (as it hard to tell over a computer) Carl Martin PlexiTone or Radial Tonebone Plexitube. Anyone who has played both feel free to comment. I am seriously looking at one and can't decide which one.

  • I would say this, I don't have anything against Carl Martin Effects, but I think the Tonebone offers more features and a better plexi type of sound with the 12AX7 preamp tube. This also has more versatility and an FX loop for your lead channel. Of course, this is about 60-75 more dollars. I don't think you could go wrong either way, but I think this beats it hands down.

  • thats a really flexible pedal! i might have to get one.
