Police, Firemen, Schools (very limited federal involvement). These things are funded at the State level.
We do need taxes at both levels, but the federal government was NOT intended or designed to be anything remotely similar to what it has become.
Federal taxes should be custodial, not programatic!
Educate yourself. The constitution and all ammendments are easy to find online (for now), take advantage.
