Only the first generation were cult members. When authority is transfered to a group, then it is not a cult. There is not a rigid definition and not all cults are dangerous. It all depends upon the leader. I would not call most of Christianity a cult. I would not call Judaism a cult. If you can get a second opinion about any issue, then it is not a cult. Whatever we humans can see with our material eyes is just material. As a devotee of Krsna, I see the material world from a spiritual eye. This world is owned & controlled by Krsna. We are not this body. This body is just ephemeral & will eventually perish after death. We are the soul, which is eternal.

The personal one describes God as a human being- but not material, spiritual- like you say, spirit. Only the first generation were cult members. When authority is transfered to a group, then it is not a cult. There is not a rigid definition and not all cults are dangerous. It all depends upon the leader. I would not call most of Christianity a cult. I would not call Judaism a cult. If you can get a second opinion about any issue, then it is not a cult. I was helping feed vegan food to the poor. Another contributer was a krishna devotee. He told me I will be punished for eating carrots because I don't first offer them to your imaginary friend. That is what is scary. The ignorant arrogance is vile.

Also remember that in the west, this philosophy and group of followers is still pretty new. They are still trying to iron things out with the community and it's workings and are not closed minded to change or new ideas. Even Prabhupada was open to making things as agreeable as possible to the devotees as long as it did not jeopardize the philosophical beliefs.

The canon of scripture was put together after the books were written, the way all compilations are assembled including the Old Testament. So what? Whatever happened to, "you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience' (Colossians 3.12)? You say read the Bible to be happy, but you yourself sound very unhappy. Nor are you reflecting the kindness, forgivingness, and spiritual focus of Jesus, whom you claim to follow. Instead you are criticizing.
As for God, Hare Krishnas believe in the same God as you. We call him Krsna, though you may call him God. It is simply a difference of names.
