  • he is staying on the subject ... how you can use the 6 stroke roll

  • say what you want.... yes there was an application but he was applying different fills also... so please stay on the subject... if you're going to base the vid about six stroke roll...stay with it... show applications using only six stroke roll and try to explain what you are doing.. that's all... if he's posting this video just to show off or have some fun then this comment will be void... thanks..

  • the fills WERE from a 6 stroke roll. LISTEN!!! WATCH!!!

  • WERE from brother... want a score sheet? damn... the point is, it is not all six stroke roll can't you understand that? that is all...

  • I've been playing 6-stroke rolls for 30 years, I think I know it when I hear/see it. This is how a 6 stroke roll is used. And you are an idiot. Nuff said

  • say what you want... then would you like to explain what he did on 0:16... thank you... damn you're old...

  • He is on the subject : Using 6 stroke rolls on fills.

  • There are fifty other six stroke roll videos that you can watch that just do the six stroke at different speeds. This is the practical application on the kit.

  • He's showing how you can expand from the foundations of a 6 stroke roll

  • Your Toms sound SOOOO BOOMMB

  • LOL!

  • you got ur kit tuned up real nice

  • wooh ... thats cool.

  • it goes : RllrrLR,than the next bars are just llrrLR.

  • Wrong.

    It's a six stroke roll.

So its R LL RR L

    Siz strokes, not seven.

  • read my whole comment first.

2nd is that try playing the roll i wrote down and you will feel the diffrence mainly because well your roll isnt the known six stroke roll

  • The roll I described IS the six stroke roll.

Your roll, the first sequence has seven strokes.

That is not a six stroke roll.

That is a seven stroke roll.

Do I need to make it any clearer for you?

You can't even count your own rolls, so I hereby disclaim any credibility in the advice you try to offer.

  • your right, the first sequence does have seven strokes, and it starts before the beggining of the bar,and than you play a roll @_@ of SIX

  • he included the first beat of the next bar. then did that again

  • Sorry - I just found the first page where you explained it

  • What an excellent demonstration of the use of the six stroke roll. Great stuff. What inversion are you using (rllrrl ?). And is that 6 stroke rolls all the way through ?

  • Wow! I watch this vid everytime!!!

  • excellent

  • Wow man. Your kit has my vote for the best sounding one on YouTube for sure! Half (or more) of the pros don't have kits that sound this good! Thumbs up! Wicked skill on the skins too!

  • Awesome feel, good recording, and outstanding drumming!

    Good work!

  • guys...you could've just looked at the 40 P.A.S. Standard Rudiments if you wanted to learn this. but nice demonstration though.

  • i have to say thanks man for that 6 stroke secret. i have been playing a long time and i never had much money for lessons . when i did take lessons they never showed me things like this. i live in a small town and it is hard to find anyone who is really good to take lessons off of. i just want to thank you for sharing with out demanding a buck. there's alot of us out here who are thankful for that. thanks again man

  • Any chance you could break down those patterns you do around the toms? they are damn cool.

    cheers man

  • thats fuckin phat man, i gotta work on that.

  • smooth as man, very ynice

  • OMG you rock dude!!!!

  • are you playing the 6 stroke roll with a swing? coz its sounds a bit jazzier. Is there ne chance you can tab what you played for me?

    Thanks, Jake.

  • six stroke roll is RllrrL RllrrLRllrrLRllrrL

  • to everyone with comments about how good his kit sounds:

he's got everything mic'd and then eq'd. of course it sounds good.

  • actually he just has a nice kit

  • yeah, it's a nice kit, but the microphones make it sound better than a shitty camcorder mic does.

  • actually he just tunes it, probly a decent kit though

  • wow, how'd you make you set sound so good

  • your drumset sounds really good!

  • i like your effects cymbal, it's real nice. and are those k customs? those are some of my favorite cymbals, such a clean and cutting sound

  • dude you have amazing pulse.

  • I've been playing about six years.

  • ok bub - let's see you do better. learn to spell too.

  • What kind of drums are those. They really sound amazing.

  • thats what im talking about

you were trained well yound patawon

    <3

finally someone who did it right :D

  • Sweet man! Well sweet :-)

  • great groove

i need some help, if you can

how do you do it? lol

when i do it, i end up doing diddles and it doesn't sound right

it was a good video, i'm just that dumb lol

  • That's okay - I worked on this steadily for a few months to get it going. The hand pattern to practice SLOWLY at first is: R L L R R L

Feel it as if you're playing sixteenth-note triplets. The first stroke with the right hand and the last stroke with the left hand are accented. I demonstrate it somewhat slowly on the hihat at the beginning of the video, so watch that part carefully. Good luck!

  • ah, i get it now lol

thanks that was helpful, now i get the video more

how long you been playing? you're hella good

  • Glad you got it! I've been playing for six years and teaching for three, and love it.

  • @jasonedwardsdrums Please explain the last fill where to put the accents!!!!!!!!!

  • @drnnhvcdsde I don't think I would do it justice by trying to explain with a comment, but the system you can use to make up any number of cool sounding fills using the 6 stroke roll is:

BASIC SIX STROKE ROLL: RllrrL (caps letters have accents, everything else is unaccented) - the rhythm this is played in is like playing 16th note triplets.

TO CHANGE UP THE ACCENTS: try combinations of Rll or llR (again as triplets), so a few examples:

Rll rrL Rll Rll Rll rrL rrL rrL Rll Rll rrL rrL
