That might be from a previous generation. The newer movies usually try to avoid that. For instance, in Fearless they had an honorable Japanese fighter who refused to kill Jet Li and ended up almost beating up that Japanese scoundrel who had poisoned Jet. Even in the Rape of Nanking movie about John Rabe, you had a junior Japanese military officer who informed Rabe about the coming killings (which had no historical basis, but I guess they needed at least one good Japanese guy).
This movie was in 2009. And look at other recent movies, like Ip Man (2008). Totally fake movie. They basically rewrote history. The way they explained WWII was like "China fought valiantly against the Japanese, ending the war, and that scored another great victory for the Chinese." And young Chinese really believe China beat Japan. I asked one of my Chinese friends "Did you know the US's involvement in that war?" and he was like "Oh yeah, and the US dropped a couple bombs."
Jackie Chan said it how it is... the movies out of america these days suck... and I wouldn't want to act in them either. This is one of the greatest films I've seen in a long time.

His fight scenes are slow motion although some are very well choreographed but it's simple shit. it will fool the majority of the buttercups out there but he's nowhere near the level of action as JC. U should be ashamed of yourself for even classifying him as near JC level. It's like saying Gary Coleman should play blind side

Too much is lost in translation, the overall tone of the translation depicts Jackie as arrogant but he is really being humble and modest in this interview touching on many issues such as the stereotyping Chinese actors face in Hollywood and how he wants his FILM CREW to be known for being COURTEOUS, POLITE and CLEAN as he believes he now represents not just the film industry of the Chinese but the Chinese ethnics people themselves.
@writchotte i think he is just opposed to how in the US, its all about roles in film and rarely character. its things like "the bad guy" "the straight cop" "the modern cowboy" etc, and as a chinese actor he gets fewer to choose from to boot. this is because hollywood knows what people reliably want to see and makes money off it - in a country with a smaller film industry, like china, people are more willing to take chances and try something unique.
I didn't like Rush Hour 3 becuse i'm french and because the Rush hour serie is full of stereotypes. This movie Shinjuku Incident look interresting, it's a change, it's the kind of movie Hollywood would not be able to make.
Jackie could break a lot of stereotypes if he really wanted to, he just needs to hook up with a director who's willing to take chances. I have no idea what the Myth is, but Police Story could work in the US if it was presented correctly. Everyone knows about Drunken Master here and all it took was one movie!

@nchan1213 i definately noticed how the translations seemed very simple while jackie was going into great detail, but im very used to it. im bilingual and i see this happen constantly when spanish is translated to english or vice versa - and it never picks up on linguistic subtleties unique to the language, like other meanings and implications of words or little things that just dont exist in the other language (such as -ito, -dote, -issimo, all things added to words to express size in detail)

@writchotte i think he is just opposed to how in the US, its all about roles in film and rarely character. its things like "the bad guy" "the straight cop" "the modern cowboy" etc, and as a chinese actor he gets fewer to choose from to boot. this is because hollywood knows what people reliably want to see and makes money off it - in a country with a smaller film industry, like china, people are more willing to take chances and try something unique.

I have no idea what the Myth is, but Police Story could work in the US if it was presented correctly. Everyone knows about Drunken Master here and all it took was one movie!

He's quite right about that immigration thing. Being a 2nd generation immigrant myself. I'm happy that my parents took care of teaching us fluent cantonese so we don't have that communication problem as he mentioned.
But then again I can understand how the immigrants still prefer the fears and despair being alone in a foreign country than being surpressed by the own government in China,

@nchan1213 i definately noticed how the translations seemed very simple while jackie was going into great detail, but im very used to it. im bilingual and i see this happen constantly when spanish is translated to english or vice versa - and it never picks up on linguistic subtleties unique to the language, like other meanings and implications of words or little things that just dont exist in the other language (such as -ito, -dote, -issimo, all things added to words to express size in detail)

I would not want to live in China either. China is for a privileged few. There is little human right in China. I admire Jackie Chan! I admire his stamina & his confidence! I've watched a lot of his interviews on TV (you can find them on youtube) and he is a very down to earth guy, & he works very hard to improve the Chinese image & he proves that he is a very proud Chinese guy in front of millions viewers! He is the most recognised Chinese film star (may be Jet Li too) in the world at the moment!

Because he always behaves the opposite as what he says. e.g., He always asks people not to join triad society, but his best friend (Mr. Yeung) is a famous triad member. This Mr. Yeung who is the boss of a major record company, provides Jacky unlimited free supply of young singers for sex service. This is well known in HK.
