@HunterstonB Do you mean a Gaelic singing festival? I grew up in Glasgow and had a friend who used to sing at the Mod. Do they have it in Wales too, if Mary Hopkin was in it?
She's so attractive and such a lovely voice; anyone know who wrote this song? It almost sounds like a Christine McVie composition - really beautiful :)
Thanks rightmoment, but some else has suggested it is s steel guitar. Though it just looks like a box with strings. Though come to think of it that's all a guitar is really.
Wow found this and found myself thinking of why the years have gone by so fast Answer Me why I am so old now and was young when I heard this the first time and it seems only 5 mins ago!
Her first and, after all these years, still her finest hit single. Wonderful production by Junior Campbell. This knocks spots off 'Caravans' 'January-February' etc.
She was the backing singer in a play called John, Paul, George, Ringo and Bert, at the Everyman theatre in Liverpool in 1974. I was there, she was fantastic.
Unusual to see a left handed steelplayer I did not know Martin But I was at top of the pops when the late Gordon Huntley played those harmonics for Barbara on steel, That I would like to see a video of??
Old fashioned maybe, but the great thing about music is that it brings back memories. This reminds me of my first year at college. Long before I had to worry about grown up things like a mortgage.
I knew Mart Jenner since the mid 80's. Without a doubt, he was one of the world's finest session guitarists. I have loads of recordings and video of him playing. A truly gifted musician who is greatly missed.
Please fateocharlie would you let me have a copy of those videos with Mart playing.I don't have any videos of him playing..Though quite a few photos.Love Penny
No It's My dear friend Mart Jenner...Brilliant guitarist too...I've known him nearly all my lif..Alas he died a few years ago in Australia. Was with Cliff Richard for many years too.
Ken Bruce recently played this on his Radio 2 show when Barbara was a studio guest. She said afterwards it was her personal favourite of all her hits though she realised the fans favourite is Caravans.
The quality of Barbara's singing never ceases to amaze me, she tackles this rather difficult song with her customary perfect pitch & diction.

The Mod in the National Gaelic singing festival - they have similar festivals in Wales and Ireland.
Mary Hopkins, made her name singing in Welsh, as Barbara Dickson did singing in Gaelic

Kenrew.
A slower version of this was a big hit for
Frankie Laine in the 1950's but the B.B.C.
banned it and Frankie had to re-record it
with changed lyrics.
Barbara's upbeat version in the 70's let us
know that great things were to come from this great singer and we certainly have not been dissapointed.
