i tried it on vista, it didnt work cos there was something wrong with the laptop, i was willing to accept this. but when i tried to get rid of it it would not go away, has anyone else encountered this, and if so does it happen on W7?, as that is what im now using

I use it for controlling programs and games, you can train it from scratch or at least remove the words you never use, forget the typing a letter for you. also it will run way faster on a smaller dictionary of words..

It's not amazing with my voice (I have a lisp), but I've seen it work for others, but it does work sorta for me. It was crap in Vista, but in Windows 7 they've improved it tenfold, it's dead effective.

"Eat up Martha?!". Yeah Speech Recognition works fine for me in Windows 7. I actually wrote an email to Chris using it and I just had to correct some capitalization problems. As long as you know what to say, it works fine, and I was shocked at how well it worked for me.

Voice Recognition is built into Vista and 7, not XP. But if you have any Office XP program including word, it has an earlier version of voice recognition built in if you want to activate it. Though it's not nearly as good as the one built into Vista, especially at controlling the computer.

When you start off by saying that you don't have the time to "train your Computer" to use this voice recognition software because you type fast, then great, don't use it! Should be the end of the clip right there. VOICE RECOGNITION says EXACTLY WHAT IT IS...V O I C E R E C O G N I T I O N!!! In order for it to RECOGNIZE YOUR voice ( ie. not mine...) it MUST be TRAINED. That's the whole point! For those of us who can't type 85+ words/min but thankfully can talk clearer and even faster, it works.

im using it right now to type this, it works quickly and efficiantly most of the time.

if it's really a problem, it could be the inconsistancy of the mic to your mouth.

in this case try a good quality headest with a microphone, this way you can have sound through the headset and it wont get picked up by the mic AND you are at a constant distance from the mic.

Vista speech recognition works like a charm. And key thing there - good noise canceling microphone. Plus there is a Dragon Naturally Speaking - which can give you slightly better results...

I think his review was a bit harsh. Dragon's product v9.5 is amazing once you train it. It's about 95% of natural speach. You just have to pause a few times in between commands but speaking you can rattle on and it recognizes with about 99% accuracy. I don't think he has tried the newer versions yet.

i like vistas speech recognition because of its little tools, you can say "mouse grid" to narrow down a spot to click on your screen, and just say "ok", to click on the center of the 5 box. or go into internet explorer and say "show numbers", it will have an overlay of numbers for every available link. well not just internet explorer. but it just shows an abundance of links and buttons.

just letting you know if you didnt. but i uninstalled vista weeks ago.
