I'm an old-school traditionalist -- real drums for real drummers lol But man if I could get amazing sounds like that out of an electronic / midi gated / etc. set then dayyyum praise Jesus I done been converted!!! Dude you so seriously kicked major ass on this! Phil C. couldn't have done any better himself.
Dude... we are not worthy!!! You rock Bro!!!!! I thought watching you, that you were going to whip the heads off. Scott, you are by the best drummer I've seen, that wasn't preforming with a band upon viewing them.
I hope and pray that Phil is pleased with your tribute, I know I'm sure as hell am !!!!
Amazing cover, Scott. I linked to here from the VDrums forum, where I believe you've kindly posted the Superior Drummer 2.0 presets for this. A truely iconic track from Phil Collins. The man has a unique drum sound and style, which is instantly recognizable. You've done a man's job, sir !
I've got a question. All through the beginning of the song you are hitting the pad to the left of your hats with your left hand. Is that just a timekeeping thing, flair, or something you edited out of the final version?
@chiefynutz - There's a tom set to that pad... give it a listen on some headphones. I didn't want it to dominate the mix, but in hindsight I definitely could have mixed it louder! The right hand takes over later on on the right floor toms (although in a more linear pattern).
@chiefynutz Although you didn't see it much in live concerts with either Phil or Chester, in the orginal studio version, Phil played a floor tom in much the same way that "haskitt" is here. Even though, he's added his own flair, "haskitt" is actually staying quite true the orginal drum patterns.
@firstmusic00 It seems he is playing over the top of the original beat, adding his own flair, if I am correct? It makes it that much more impressive IMHO. This is high on my list of drum covers to copycat for sure.
@chiefynutz It does sound like he's playing over the original track. But as I said, Phil used a floor tom in much the same way you would a high-hat through much of this piece. Not sure why you didn't see it in concert though. Perhaps it just didn't sound right without the "gated reverb" used in the studio version. Either way, it's an intertesting beat and typical of Phil at the time. I suggest you find the CD ("Hello, I Must Be Going) and listen on a high quality system to check every strike.
Scott, that was tight man. You did an amazing job on that. I just got in to drums and I hope one day I can knock something like that out. I have seen Chester and Phil knock that out live countless times, and you did them both proud.
Absolutely amazing man. A month ago i got my first drumset, A roland full mesh TD-6XT & DW3000 Double Kick, and have finally started in on a dream ive had for a long time. I also recently got superior drummer and came across your presets for this song that you posted in a forum, how i found the video, and am in awe. Ive yet to download the presets yet but look forward to doing it. One question though, I think all i have so far is Avatar, kit from hell, pop/rock, and cocktail. That enough?
@VisionCrys Thanks so much... I think that's plenty to start off with, although for a lot of these presets I used a couple different expansions. This one uses mostly metal foundry.

Pretty Sick man, was thinking of covering this myself and came acrossed this video...the drums sound great too, kinda changed my view on electronic kits as well. Great Job !
@coolsebas14 - it's a TD-4 kit with a bunch of added used pieces... I'm not using the module, but rather a laptop with samples on there. Altogether it's a bit of an expensive kit!
@coolsebas14 - A lot! But not as much as it could be... I skimped a bit on some of the actual pads. The samples and laptop/interface/software were the most expensive parts.
what's the name of your band? you should be in one. people would pay to see you play. I would. even if you just did a phil tribute band. like running a marathon. animal says "eat drums..."

Dear Scott, every Friday, before I leave my work for weekend, I enjoy your video, your ultimative genious drumming. Enjoy Scott's drumming is the highlight of my week. Thanks for making me happy. God bless you. Sandro
AWESOME! You did a fantastic cover of Phil's drumming. I have always liked this song and Phll Collins musical talent and genius in general. Great job! I used to play, but broke my neck in a diving accident 30 years ago and have often thought of trying to rig some kind of system up to work for a quad (i.e. Def Leopard). Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed your video!
I always hated electronic drums vs acoustic ( the sound and feel ) But, i watched and listened to your video and, I have to say this...GREAT JOB and,GREAT SOUND!!.
I am Sndro from Germany. Oh my god, you are a real genious, for me it sounds better than from Phil or Chester. In other Clip you played Guitar also very well. I give you 11 points out of 10 !!! In that league you are playing, you must come from England, right?
Whoa... AWESOME I love how angry this song is, and the power you added with your take on the drums. Always been one of my favorite Phil tunes. Fantastic job man.
Hey discjockey, They're all roland pads, and I'm using two Vdrum modules... a Td-4 and a Td-3 into Superior Drummer on my macbook pro. Stay tuned in the next week or so for some acoustic drum videos! Thanks for watching!
I'm an Phil fan from way back in the days when Genesis was prog rock 70s up until Abacab -- Brand X too. Your drums sound excellent on this. I sent you a PM, you've got to share this preset! You did a great job with it. Kudos.
Hey, I'll get you the preset this weekend... thanks for the compliments! I love the metal foundry, but it does take some work to get the sounds you want.
Awesome job man. You are dead-on, tight as nails. Really sweet tone you have dialed up on Metal Foundry too. Would you care to share those settings as a preset. I just bought Metal Foundry myself, and I don't have a huge use for the Metal Presets either, but one like you have is perfect. Let me/us know what kit pieces you used, or again, if you could share this as a preset that would be incredible.
Thanks man! Metal Foundry is awesome but a little finicky... it's so much more raw than the other toontrack libraries so it takes a little more time to get a "mix" on any kits I make, and the preset kits are a little too metal for most of the projects I do. So, the reason that it's a pain make it ultimately much more versatile because you form it to what you want to do.
I used to play drums to this, but not nearly as good as that! It's all feel, and that was awesome! I'm really sad about Phil Collins not being able to play the drums anymore...he was so MUSICAL the way he played.
One of THE best drum lines ever and you rocked it out!

Scott you rock. What kind of drum set up is that? Sorry not a musician here. Nice fill at 3:09-3:10 and 3:23-3:24!! Keep up the good work!!

Yep... had a couple requests for the preset. I'm going to dig it up this weekend. Thanks for the compliments!

how are you liking the metal foundry software man?, this is really good cover by the way five stars for you
ogskeetdizzle 2 years ago

Dude you phucking rock! That was so much more animated and from the heart than many if not most of the other covers I've seen! Nice!!

I used to play drums to this, but not nearly as good as that! It's all feel, and that was awesome! I'm really sad about Phil Collins not being able to play the drums anymore...he was so MUSICAL the way he played.

how do you have that many pads with the td-4?
SeanHart213 2 years ago
I'm using a TD-4 and a TD-3, both going into a motu fastlane 2 channel midi interface. The two extra pads are plugged into the TD-3.
