That dude at 0:25 gets on my nerves, man. First off, I'm not a U2 fan, but even I know his name is pronounced bONo, not Bo-Know. I wonder how going on record as saying he hasn't had a date for a long time and that Lara's very real to him has helped his dating/romantic life.
Tobey came up with the idea and he changed it from a male character to Female, and he got the name Lara croft from a phone book...this a*holes are taking credit for something they didn't do
Also - Virtual Hydlide and Fade to Black - both 3rd person 3D Action Adventures, came out a year earlier, so the claim that TR was somehow unique is absurd. I'm not sure whom this doc targets, but anyone who cares to do even the slightest digging on the subject can easily see through the whole over-excited circus of it. These two guys demonstrate themselves as some truly award-winningly giant douchebags not only by taking other people's credit, but by getting well known stuff wrong as well.
tomb raider was REVOLUTIONARY. it looked better and, at the time, played better than any other game that came before it. most people haven't even heard of Virtual Hydlide or Fade to Black.
tylerfrump15 : TR wasn't revolutionary, as much as it did things others have done before it, but did them slightly better. It also had a massive marketing push which explains why it was a better known game than Fade to Black (a Flashback sequel) and Virtual Hydlide. Having a "hot" female lead helped as well.
Decent doc, as far as G4 stuff goes, but it's painfully obvious these two jerks had no involvement with the game whatsoever - they are reading off a freaking sell-sheet! ("And we wrote in the design doc - must leap long distances!") I'd like to see interviews with people who actually worked on the game sharing their experience - the difficulty of coding for Saturn (TR's system of origin), the polygonal limitations, the engine constrains, and any unused/scrapped gameplay/story/graphical elements.
True. Game Artist/Animator Toby Gard created the game and did the whole design document himself. The two jerks in this inerview just own the studio that put out the money for the game.
That's all. Toby Gard made the game, not those two jerks!
What happened was; In 1995 during a meeting at Core Design, Toby Gard put forward Tomb Raider to be a possible game. The character was a man at the time and at first they regected the idea because it was very similar to Indiana Jones, they later changed the charcacter to a woman after they brainstormed what qualities they wanted the protagonist to have. After 1996 when the game came out Toby left because he was upset how Lara was being portrayed in adverts (SEAT) and in promotional material.
@AnticMikuCafe Toby Gard was part of CORE design, he drew up the initial concepts for lara but the whole team created her. Jeremy and Adrian Smith were the leaders of the Tomb Raider project. They were the ones who refined the idea, they were the ones who presented it to Eidos.

Toby Guard Created Lara, not these fakos
AnticMikuCafe 2 years ago 7
@AnticMikuCafe They are not fakos they said an 18 year old boy created Lara. They mean Gard, he is that 18-year old boy they mention.

@AnticMikuCafe
actually, Toby only drew Lara's Character, another person actually came up with her personality e.c.t.
