  • It really amuses me how it's called "Valjean Quartet."

  • Anyone know if the 25th An. released a cd as well as the dvd.

  • When Alfie Boe sings at 2.20 i get goosebumbs EVERY TIME!!!

  • Comment removed

  • all I can say is AMAZING!

  • The harmonies. Good God. Oh, and does anyone know who the third Valjean is who comes in at "he's like the son I might have known"?

  • i'm not a huge fan of Alfie's more operatic style, and i'll always love JOJ, but there's no denying that Alfie's got the best voice on that stage.

  • If i smoked .... I would need a one right about now!! WOW.... the power, the beauty... brings tears to my eyes... in a good way.

  • WOW!!!! No more words are needed.

  • Best Jean Valjean ever. And I saw him perform on stage. I'll never forget that voice.

  • What the fuck! Boe's high vocals are insane! I mean they are all gorgeous, but that guy...wow!

  • one word..chills

  • this is beautiful.

  • I LOVE Alfie Boe's singing! Actually to be honest, I love all of their singing!

  • where is the love button??? <3

  • This musical is the best. Simple as that. I actually got quite tearful listening to this... I love JOJ's face at 0:22 and Alfie's at 3:56. :)

  • I presume Alfie Boe is the last one...wow :D

  • Absolutely amazing, all of them

  • Well, I just sobbed.

  • I'm in tears listening to this

  • The part is Colm's it always has been & always will be, Alfie is brilliant, but Colm has the edge.

  • GUYS STOP FRICKEN COMPARING THEM. THAT'S NOT THE FRIGGEN POINT OF THIS QUARTET! IT'S TO SHOW THE UNITY. PLEASE. enjoy the music.

  • @WestTalkVlogs Quite right, why not just enjoy these four amazing singers

  • They're all fantastic singers...but each brings something different...and Colm sings like the man for whom the song was written and his ability to emote the part through song is second to none. Alfie just appears too young to be the father figure...but give him a few years...let's see then...

  • love how alfie just overpowers all three amazing singers!:P

  • Please someone tell me who's next to Colm? He sings amazingly!

  • @XavierCrow i believe you are talking about John Owen Jones, who is just wonderful.

  • @Phantomguy93 That's the guy! Thanks! And I couldn't agree more. :)

  • Saw Les Mis yesterday in London and Ramin Karimloo was brilliant as Valjean and Hadley Fraser was great as Javert. The whole show was out of this world, it was awesome. Already I cannot wait to see it again.

  • Valjean and the Phantom are obviously the two most coveted roles ever :)

  • @derkcloud and colm wilkinson has done both of them! lucky!

  • @JimmyDag1 Don't forget John Owen Jones and Ramin Karimloo too. I think the are others who've played both too.

  • at 2:20 alfie is like take this boys. great music and play.

  • Is it fair to say that alfie boe's voice has too much power compared to the other guys like its too intense and too bright for what i think valjean's voice should be like. His voice absolutely drowns out the other valjeans

  • Alfie feeling a bit, I don't know overrated!

  • Stunning!

  • Valjean group hug! love it!

  • Is it just me who think all four of them are amazing? This is the best match of voices I have heard in a long time.

  • Colm is the best in many of our hearts, because he was the original. He was amazing, no doubt about that! But, look in front of you. As much as I love Colm, I think Alfie and JOJ (this is NOTHING compared to what he does in the show) are the best Valjeans out there. Alfie had everything for Valjean. The look, the voice, the charisma, and the character. He showed both the vulnerable and the powerful side of Valjean. JOJ? The same, if not better. They're all good, let's leave it at that lol

  • They're all extraordinary, but even though Alfie might be a better singer NOBODY understands better the character than Colm. The emotion he transmits is unbeatable.

  • this song was written for colm lets not forget this and he is still by far the best valjean even with his age everyone is going on about alfie boe i dont get it his voice is too harsh for this song whereas colms voice is soft but still powerful at the same time

  • @kcphonics No offence to Colm, he's still one of the best, but i think you might have got the two voices mixed up. look at the first one alfie does that night, and you'll see what i mean.

  • I saw Colm on his recent "Broadway and Beyond" tour and fell in love with his multifaceted voice! I cried when he sang this!

  • Excuse me, WHERE IS GARY MORRIS?

  • His voice just gives me chills, this rendition is just amazing.

  • This gives me chills every time I watch it:)

  • I prefer a solo performance from each one of them.

  • 2 people are tasteless idiots

  • the fact is that you would have to be a pavorati or the likes to hit the notes he did in this rendetion. a true tenor!! lets here it for the tenors and not the baritones with a great falcetto.

  • WOW!!!!

  • Awesome that he is older and still does better than the young people

  • I swear, I'm not crying. I just have something in my eye.

  • Watch the people in the background when Alfie comes in and you will see in their reaction just how amazing he is

  • Ailfie's great, but he can't do the high notes on "Who Am I" and the number with the Bishop as good Colm does.

  • @RivenArgileon He actually "does them" better - More technique, and healthier singing, while still maintaining the tone quality and power. Colm just had a distinctive tone in his high register that people have come to associate with the role. I love them both, but it isn't right to say that Colm does high notes "better" than Boe.

  • @RivenArgileon Loool I beg to differ.

  • Alfie Boe's voice SOARS when he comes in, doesn't it? What an incredible voice. They are all great and this is such a treat (I own a copy of the DVD of the 25th Anniversary). There is just something about Alfie, though....takes it all to a new level.

  • just want to say colm is my fav but alfie blew me away with this talk about he is young he is only a boy god with a voice like that they shud rewrite it to hes got a beard hes a man and god can he sing , coming to a theatre near you

  • Both are great , end of.

  • Colm is just so great. I loved him from the 10th anniversary edition. He;s still got it

  • i remember, whn i saw this wonderful! show on NY Broadway... til this day i still get goose bumps,,,,,, and now i just read on e,,, that they gonna do the movie, with russell crowe, and hugh jackman!!! omg!!!!!! i cant wait!!!!!!!

  • They're all awesome, but John Owen-Jones is my favorite:D

  • I just love how the first three valjeans are pretty bulky and look strong and Alfie looks short in comparison and then opens his mouth and blows everyone away.

  • Reminds me of that old band joke;

How do you tune 4 oboe players? Shoot three of them.

    Knyuck Knyuck Kynuck

  • Upper class?? hahaha if an apprentice mechanic in Blackpool is upper class, then im an out and out snob, yeah right lol, fantastic singer though, and the best musical out there....ever!!

  • 2:19 "Let me show you how its done, guys."

  • I just love JOJ's face just after Colm starts singing.

  • And let's not forget his face: having read the book many times (I'm from Paris), when I saw Boe's face for the first time, I thought : this is the face of Jean Valjean. At least, from a "french point of view". :)

  • The fact is, they're all very talented singers, and Colm hasn't quite lost his greatness, despite his age. But Alfie Boe is far, far up in the stratosphere. I think that many of the people who are saying that Colm was a better Valjean are just letting talk their nostalgia. Alfie Boe rocks at every level, his voice, his acting, his charisma and presence, his "upper" class. He's is quite simply overwhelming.

  • @SCharlesDennicon actualy Alfie has a very good voice, better than Colm...but acting wise Colm comes out of my mind when every time I heard the name Valjean

  • @SCharlesDennicon Alfie himself would probably laugh at your " 'upper' class" remark, since he's from a working class background. But he's very classy guy. And proof that talent has nothing to do with class. A voice that could stop a truck or charm a lark. And the way he became Valjean at the 25th. Almost scary. Like he was "channeling" Jean.

  • @SCharlesDennicon I disagree. His voice doesn't fit. He is a great singer but by far not the best Valjean!

  • @SCharlesDennicon if ur a true les mis u love all of them while giving colm the highest respect as he is the original. alfie boe sings more in the style of an italian operatic performer, which is awesome. the other two are also very good. i give high respect to any man who plays the part of the great jean valjean

  • @SCharlesDennicon Alfie is amazing too, but his mic is louder, don't let that confuse you. I just think that power isn't everything and where Colm lacks power Alfie lacks expression. Great actor, I just wish we could combine the two. (or possibly three, who's the guy next to Colm??)

  • @SCharlesDennicon I disagree - y ou can't compare colm now to alfie now... compare colm when he was singing at the 10th anniversary to aflie now... and remember the part was written for colm. There will never be another. Alfie comes close I agree but colm has so much more passion and range.

  • @brisbanetim Agree. Alfie has amazing voice. Quite operatic I would say, but Colm´s performace at 10th anniversary was the most soulful one I have ever heard. I think it might even be the age. Colm was older than then Alfie is now I would say perfect age for Valjean actually :) To me it looks like Alfie still has some way to go to reach that level of maturity of the performance. Once he does though he would be.. I can´t eve imagine... Mindblowing.

  • @SCharlesDennicon Now please dont get me wrong but the fact that Alfie Boe overpowered and "rocked" on this song isn't necessarily a good thing, this song it would be fair to say is one of the flagship songs of the entire show, and the subject matter is one that requires the most intense control and the portrayal of emotions. While yes Alfie Boe has a good voice and it is good for "rocking" I would say Colm nailed the role more because he truly lived, was imprisoned and died on stage. Fantastic

  • @williamswadling That's unfair, Alfie only came in for the most powerful section of the song, he can't help it if the only aspect of this song's emotion he is able to display is the loud, passionate one. It is MEANT to be an overpowering crescendo, to make the incredibly soft finale that much more dramatic. Saying that: 2:55, I beg to differ.

  • When Alfie comes in I just start to cry...his voice is overwhelming :)

  • Colm doesn't have anything but retirement, He's gotta yell to be heard. The younger tenors out sing him easy.. and Alfie does it easily.

  • @solaceincarnate Colim owns that song, but Alfie Boe...just wow.

  • Colm's still got it. Love him. ;)
