It's not that difficult to understand the issue. The government is not some benevolent entity. They need to get as much money as they can because of the debts and all. So in theory, I guess they might expect to get the investment back by a deal with the corps. By making people independent, both corps and the gvt will lose, and when two big powers don't want something.. Well.. U already know.. I wonder if. Karma can only be acquired if ones feels personally affected by what is manifesting/manifested in their total perceptual continuum or field of awareness. Therefore if a pipe or whatever it maybe stimulates whoever to the positive or negative karma has just been created binding one to that particular bandwidth/frequency of mother earths multilevel experiential continuum .
First people got rid of the buggy-whip makers and now the oil industry is suffering, that proves the World is changing. People do not like change and soon the only way to get oil out of the ground fast enough will be to pump it through a pipeline to major centers of population. This is resulting from the increasing cost of extracting each unit of hydrocarbon from the ground.
So ridiculous to invest in oil at this point. 13 billion is crazy talk, I can't even believe it is being considered, especially after the b.p disaster...
So.. you are right it is a gateway to china market plain and simple. It makes economic sense but not physical sense just like you said canamerica trade deals that go back more then 20 years. I know a retired trucker who used to drive oil down to the gulf, and ship plastic chips back up to canada, it made no physical sense but it allowed specialization and networking. Now china makes all the plastic stuff we have no use for plastic chips. Economics now is about creating opportunity not wealth
2. If it was about demand at all we would keep it and refine it here creating Canadian jobs. It's not about demand but about them paying them selves to milk what's left and be in a favorable position with china. It also creates a ton of opportunity for growth of the mining industry playing with new techniques using what they have such high stake holdings in already rather then investing in something futurely useful to humanity. They are surfing the wave of the collapse of their own industry.
3. there are similar bitumen and shale oil deposits in the USA near the route which as prices get higher they will start milking too. The refineries are all already there in gulf and Texas so it makes sense for these oil giants who hold the stakes all over the world to do this in one place. also they mentioned as a rebuttal to when they're done oil how it could be used for water... It's been decades they want pipelines to get water from great lakes to areas like cali, no wonder they tried..
4.. to put their sacred keystone pipe right through the ogallala aquifer? Their reckless ballsiness got them scorned though for now. Hoards of money has gone to lobbying against keystoneXL, and the northern gateway(part of direct to china through BC hissy fit plans B and C) is also on hold now do to immense legal issues with first nations, to see what happens with KStXL before pursuing that gauntlet. Canada being a simple child trying to dig a hole to china..
