  • hahaha I'd let em shit on my rug, that's too good of a story to pass up.

  • Lewis this video has no relevance to the 'invisible web'. Try searching for that instead.

  • I saw Zack and Miri Make a Porno in theaters, from what I remember there was a decent amount of people

  • i came here because i searched "the dark side of youtube" = )) nice

  • lol... I really dig this dude!

  • I want to be in those movies

  • Part of this guys greatness is the high level of interaction with the fans and the brilliant and meaningful way he does it. I hope he understands how much we appreciate the interaction

  • Dude, the chick on rotten tomatoes is fucking retarded. Okay? Because some 16 year old bitch doesn't understand the comedy of a Kevin Smith film makes her opinion obsolete. I grew up on these movies. We own all of them. And in all honesty, they're phenomenal pieces of cinema. Maybe they're not shot as well, maybe they're not as profitable, but they are great flicks about Jersey and that's what draws me in. They're about what me and my friends do on the weekends when we're bored. Genuine and real

  • dude don't let the bastards grind you down...some times there are people that can enter a beatiful room and all they are intrested in is looking for cracks or cob webs

  • for anybody that didnt like zakk and miri, name me one, just one movie that came out that year that was funnier

  • i actually searched the dark side of youtube

  • @The1ceblitz me 2 ^^

  • I like the movie Copout I watched it twice in the theater. I own dvd and blu ray of cop out. Zack and Miri was really good too.

  • Man I feel so bad after thinking about all that time, I would get upset over some bitch telling me shit online.:(

  • LOL, this reminds me of the part in Jay and Silent Bob where Movie Poop-Shoot was brought in. Wonder if that was inspired by this feeling, or prescient?

  • Kevin Smith is my hero. He proved that even a fat geek who smokes too much crap can be successful.

  • @GMovieSeeker If you watch his interview movies you would see that he never really got into smoking anything until fairly recently.

  • The thing with posts especially on forums is that when something is a success you won't hear a pip of negativity and but then if someone screw up look up all the posts of negative shit pilling up. it's like people are so cowardly that they'll wait for something to fail to let their voices heard.

  • Look here's your god telling you it's lame to be an opinionated person and a douche, I've met many a douchey Smith fan. Take this to heart please

  • You could successfully spend more time on-line battling Internet-Trolls if you would use the "invisible toilet" known as Depends. 'Twill be stinky yet sometimes a man rises to portray a certain image with a nasty clinging to you, known as a pile of product. The alternative is to not become upset, just like in this video.l

  • Really eloquent words about the negative haters on the internet. Im not famous but I used to post on forums a lot and it became a really negative thing in my life. Putting your attention on the words of haters is a terrible mistake. I have learned, like Smith, to just let the haters be and not try to argue with them.

  • anyone else notice how he looks like a jedi?

" you have learned well, the apprentice has now become the masterf"

  • I don't care for any of the few movies I've seen that you made... but I would watch them over most movies M. Shamalama Night made any day :)

  • joenation didnt send me here...lmao jk he totally did =P haha

  • ALL of Australia...loves Kevin Smith films. I flat out said it....

  • ALL of Australia.... I flat out said it....

  • man fuck what they say, just be you

  • i can see a bunch of parallels with his approach to the internet and Penn Jillette of Penn and Teller. He's an online video blogger and has almost the same experience. Penn no longer reads reviews online because of the time wasted getting angry over it. it's crazy to see how these two different people have the exact same approach to being "addicted" to online trolling. glad to finally see he got over it.

  • Kevin Smith just inspired me to close my Facebook tab and do something else. lol

  • @NinjaPirate77 amen to that son

  • I think this is one of the best and hilariously inspirational videos I've watched on Youtube in a long ass time. He's so fucking dead on when he speaks his mind, and is so honest at the same time. Holy shit, it reminds me of just hearing my fucking self talk, minus the fucking talent. Kevin Smith fucking ROCKS!!!! XD

  • @Leonesaurus1990 well... you both definitely have a liking for the word "fuck".

  • @GodWasConfused LOL You got a point! XD

  • @DanteMcSparda MJ and GL are well deserving.

  • Sounds like me.

  • reminded me of 2p2

  • What kind of douchebag would say something about kevs kid? Cmon grow up people personally I love his movies and hes my biggest inspiration as a writer and people who talk bad about his filmmaking abilities probably dont know a damn think about making movies. Fuck them kev your awesome! nootch

  • Kevin Smith is A+++++

  • This is what everyone who's ever started an argument on this (and other) website(s) should listen to and understand. That way when I look up a Tiny Toons clip, I won't scroll down to see an argument about politics and religion. (Not joking look up the clip from Tiny Toons "Istanbul" music video, last I checked it has people calling the animators racist... of a kids cartoon!)

  • Kevin Smith plays online poker??? Awesome!!! I like him even more now...

  • 37 dislikes. Far out man.

  • we all love bush shots!

  • omg he mentioned the guardian :D

  • Yeah Kevin, some people think you suck.

I think you're brilliant and talented and I hope you fucking read this and it makes your fucking day....or not...

    whatever man

  • This might be the best Kevin Smith thing I have ever seen in my life. What he said near the end was so inspiring that I am at a loss for words on how to say it.\ amazing it was.

  • Nice videos this you tube world just gets bigger every day! When you have time come visit my channel!

  • Kevin Smith, you are a fucking legend!

  • Haha god damnit... I wish I had his money, He was speaking the fkn truth in this. "I'd rather watch a movie, buy some shit on ebay" K smith is the man.

  • how can u not lik,e clerks

  • You all have problems.

  • Are you a wizard?

  • He's too sweet and sensitive to ignore the trolls.

  • It had Seth Rogan in it and you're surprised that it only made 2 million the first week ?

  • this is awesome man. Very inspirational.

  • I don't know a whole lot about Kevin Smith, but I think he's saying some wise things here. I've come to a lot of the same conclusions myself lately. There's really no point in fighting with the trolls, cause it's just a pain in the ass when you get right down to it.

  • I like everything except the bongo music at the beginning and the end of the video. lol XD

  • Why did it took you so long to realized that ?

  • @milansikidjo EXACTLY!

  • lol..he strikes me as the kid in high school who never really fit in and tried their best to and ever since has been trying to be considered cool and part of the in crowd ..

craves acceptance and to feel like he's cool...

    who cares

  • @dopemcee dude, fuck you.

  • @dopemcee He is cool and has a massive following, you seem to be the kid at high school who hung with the popular crew, didn't pay attention in lessons and is now a 40 year old super market worker desperately clawing for days gone by when people gave a fuck about you.

  • @MatsudairaTakuma take that shit els where you loser..i was cool in high school im still cool now and achieving dreams...go find someone else with that nonsense...

losers always trying to defend each other..he's an insecure dweeb who just wnats ppl to like him "plz like me...im so cool...like me...like me..if you dont im gonna go cut my wrists...like me plz"..

    fkk outta here.

  • @dopemcee Oooh hit a nerve didn't I, sorry bro, didn't know u mad.

  • Kevin Smith sums up my feeling on the internet precisely.

  • This is awesome. This would be rad if it was easier to be a "fan" of whatever you wanted. I like transformers movies and I don't want to hear how much it sucks because sunshine of the spotless mind was so cerebral. Fuck you, they are both good movies for different reasons.

  • trolls do suck

  • The internet is full of weirdo's. As a Director you are amazing, as a writer you are amazing... I loved all your movies.. Zack and miri, jay and silent bob, clerks, clerks 2, dogma, chasing amy, etc... If your wife is beautiful then your wife is beautiful. What everyone thinks is irrelevant Kevin.

  • he is right. although kinda obvious

  • @DanteMcSparda Without critics, we'd be stuck with an industry full of hacks and mediocrity. People who fear criticisms are often ragingly envious and insecure themselves. In order to protect their thin fragile egos and questionable talents they project their own fears and secret frustrations onto their critics by dubbing them "haters". Valid criticism is necessary and healthy. Some singers are, in fact, tone deaf.

  • @ritter89 He's talking about trolls and caring about EVERY critic and EVERYTHING they say. Of course he understands valid criticisms, and people have every right to either take what's valid or whatever they want from it. Basically he's saying he's letting go of worrying about what people say and think, so if someone says he's a sellout or terrible at something, he knows he's doing the best he can at what he does and enjoys doing it, he doesn't need someone else dictating that for him.

  • @ritter89 the same could be said for some critics

  • Wow, he's really insecure. He's like the high school drop out who thinks that college is waste of time.

  • I like this guy, he realy seems like a good person

  • SHOUT OUT TO THE GUARDIAN YO!!!!

  • Really? Zack and Miri got bad reviews? That was, like, Kevin's funniest flick ever, man. That shit was hilarious and, at the same time, very heartfelt.

  • He made a 16 y/o girl cry over the internet? How would he even know that she was crying? WTF?

  • He's right. There's a lot of people who are just unhappy, mean, jealous and stupid. Everyday I see just @&#&ing crap that people say to others. Do you really have so little to do? Such a pussy, passive aggressive and cowardly way to feel good about yourself.

  • amen to that Kevin, amen to that... life's too short, go be happy

  • who is this guy

  • You've got a bunch of money kevin. That could buy a lot of plane tickets...

  • OMG! Kevin Smith is my fucking Guru! I feel made joy after listening to him.....I guess as an artist I understand what he puts up wit

  • 36 people have said stupid shit to kevin smith

  • It's a shame Smith couldn't follow a lot if his own advice from this clip when 'Cop Out' eventually came out. I like him and he's a great guy, however he discredits himself a bit.

  • Reiterating everything people have said here...yea I could listen to this guy talk all day long...The Smodcasts were really cool...Him interviewing Neil Gaiman and Amanda "art chick" Palmer...way cool...I find Kevin Smith one of the most honest film-makers out there..

  • oh man is it just me, or does kevin smith look a hell of a lot like Atrus (Rand Miller) from the Myst games??? If the Myst movie goes ahead, my vote is for Kevin Smith to be Atrus biatches!!! I think he'd play it swimmingly xD

  • everything he says more or less sums up schenectady,ny. thank you kevin for articulating percisely the nature of ignorant and malicious people who are just haters.

  • The internet is filled with so many ignorant people, that it's not worth to have an argument. Kevin Smith pretty much sums up everything that's wrong with the internet. It has become a cesspool of ignorance, hate, idiocy, and hypocrisy. If you try to argue with the likes of internet cretins, you're dragged along with them. It's better to ignore, than to bother.

As much as I respect Kevin Smith, I have to say tha Cop Out was worse than Jersey Girl. Zack and Miri Make a Porno was good though.

  • Kevin, dont let these asshats wear you down. i know you have the wit and the prosperity to create good films, fuck all this jazz after watching this vid, it just seems to me you could use a break. dont we all? hell... if you want to i live in NY and ill take you salmon fishing. as i said before, the force is strong with you. dont let anything get to you, you are past that point. but the choice now is what you choose, you have #1 directing or #2 yourself, think about it

  • @revmaynard971

This was 3 years ago. If you listen to Smodcast you can see he is waay past this and the Too Fat To Fly and Cop Out too. he seems to be in a way better head space these days now that he smokes weed.

  • @negativeindustrial

Sorry - 1-1/2 Year ago. Something like that.

Go subscribe to Smodcast if you haven't already.

  • kebbin smis.

  • Whoa, you internet guys broke Smith. When you get married and spawn a kid, well, you need to feed it and shit. And that primal urge to provide nutrients for it, coupled with numbness and fatigue aging brings, well, you just become selfish and turn to your family and gather resources and shit, and you die.

And this internet, it is honesty. No other place where we can congregate and talk openly, be it bullshit or supply depots. Mainstream can feed you sway you, in the end, it will-ie, eat you.

  • I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE Kevin! Most awesome guy on the planet. period.

  • Finally getting over himself at 38 years old. Well done. Congratulations. Wonder if he threw a party?

  • @jamiestarr69 WOW You sound like a bitter person. Seems you still havent gotten over yourself.....

  • Smith has grown up a bit since the beginning of his career, but he still cares about what people on the internet say about him. The negative reception to Cop Out showed that.

  • "Sorry, honey, I can't fuck you right now. Someone is wrong on the internet!"

  • Kevin Smith's philosophy: Hater's gonna hate.

  • I can relate with Kevin and some good commenters here. Sometimes it's hard for me not to get sucked into fanboy wars and general "yo mama" BS. Because I see so much stoopidity (intentional misspell) and my OCD I feel a need to correct and punish. But I'm trying to leave it behind... trying.

  • Zach and Mirir was decent. I saw it in theatres and was so stoked to see a Kevin Smith and Seth Rogen film (90s/2000s same style of comedy mix)... and it was AWESOME. just saying...

  • well kevin smith its funny and all, but you can see in this video that hi is kind a working guy, and thats really cool i think...

  • Man the internets filled with lots douche bags and asshole.Kevin does'nt need these opinonated pricks telling him what to do.What would of happened if Hitchcock,Scoresacci,Romaro,Lucas,Cameron, and Speilberg all listened to a bunch of elitist armchair critics that live in their mommies basements. They would of never made any of the great films if they went by what other people have said.

  • @TheConn23 Internet filled with dousche bags. Example A: @TheConn23

  • Detachment and critical thinking skills. A lack of them is a huge problem on the internet because they require patience, and people don't have patience on the internet. This is a huge problem on all sorts of topics on the internet - politics, atheism vs. religion, fanboy wars, etc. etc. etc.

  • @BalladoftheWindfish I agree 100%. I admit I used to do exactly that all the time. I got to the point where I was like "You know what... I have a better time doing things that actually have a point, what the hell am I doing?"

I still comment on politics though, but not in any kind of overload. And it's usually just a comment.

    XBOX Live is worse.

  • Hey, beating random strangers in a game of wit on the internet is a tough job, but *someone's* got to do it...!

  • what kind of asshole would rip on a guys wife and kid only a monster would do that

  • i always wanted to get everyone to like me until the internet taught me one great life lesson: the haters, they keep hating :P

  • He's wearing a Jedi robe. I just noticed that.

  • "I beat a random strange on the internet at a game of wit" omg... I was so like that too. And then I slowly stopped caring.

  • all his films are just wholesome and funny, if you dont like them great, if you dont, fuck off and stop shitting on my rug haha

  • @Kennyrobbo2007 one fuckin movie jersey girl. but besides that He is amazing.

  • @d4rKAcE3

Dude Jersey Girl rocked - I would be willing to bet you aren't a parent yet? That may be why you don't get it. You will later in life - don't sell the DVD. :)

  • @negativeindustrial I meant in jersey girl as a whole it did terrible. good for you but most parents yould never watch jersey girl because its kevin smith. I bet it be great if they saw another name and kevins fan are used to "how many dicks have you sucked" and the superman condom conversation. Granted chasing amy was really a great movie only because kevin wanted to do it.

  • @Kennyrobbo2007

LOL - Isn't it strange how filthy and wholesome his movies are at the same time? You got to be open minded and intelligent to understand him fully I think.

  • @negativeindustrial couldnt agree more

  • Kevin Smith is a pretty cool dude. Honest as fuck, maybe even to extent that it gives people an avenue to attack him on. But hey, people just have to get some perspective about this. Just because KS doesnt make a movie which fits exactly with your tastes, doesnt mean it doesnt fit with his. I am sure that you would love some of the music KS has in his cd collection and hate some of the other shit, but it falls in his taste. Sure I love some of his movies better than others, but thats fuckin life

  • I'm a Kevin Smith fan but it's embaressing when his fans talk like he does...

  • @sparced you know its ppl like u his talkin about right?

  • @sparced Is that why he's a rich successful director?lol I mean you cant really talk shit about the guy.People love his movies and not just clerks in hinesight it wasnt as good as strikes back or dogma.I think your just angry because you have 14 shitty youtube videos(maybe 5 originals) and a shitty last fm page lmao. You have no platform to be talking shit about people your an unsuccessfull loser so far in life. When your as well known as this guy come back and then talk shit.

  • I think its because hes a humble guy that he wishes to talk to people online. He's been there, he's had those conversations and he knows what it feels like to have someone say you're bad at something, especially people who don't even have the slightest grasp on his work.

I do however wish he saved that conversation of making that girl cry lol that right there is classic.

  • he worries too much

  • i never understood people who openly hate kevin smith. weird lonely people who call themselves "writers"

  • My love for Kevin Smith knows no bounds...

  • Dude is the definition of candid. Props to him, and I'll be expecting to see more of his films,

  • He is too fucking right about the internet. Its all a big breeding ground for hate, stupidity, and opinions. But we still keep our eyes glued to it, because it is just like a interactive television that you can yell at and people can hear(or read) you. Kevin is a great director and I love his dialogue based films, because they bring us back to the time when cinema was in its prime. When they didn't have to have 20 explosions per scene and every new release wasn't in 3-D.

  • @BigTymerPimp

You're kidding right? Smiths first movie came out in '94, a time when there was PLENTY of action movies with ten thousand explosions in the trailers alone. It easy to get caught up in nostalgia; everyone always thinks the previous generation was more ideal when it more often than not just isn't so. I would say cinema hit its prime in the '70's, and has been pretty much been going downhill ever since.

  • @RecklessYouth333 I do not think you read what I wrote quite right. I never said his movies were or are made in the times when cinema was in it's prime, but it takes us BACK to when cinema WAS in its prime. I never said that movies being released around the same time as his didn't have explosions. I never said the 90's was cinema's prime. Who said I was caught up in nostalgia also? You need to stop making assumptions. I never said Smith was the best director/writer ever, but he is entertaining.

  • @BigTymerPimp

Calm down, sparky. I made no assumptions, I'm just logically going the route your comment put down. You don't have to say '90's cinema was its prime when you insinuate it by saying Smiths films hearken to a time when cinema was great, or at least better than now. Its called reading between the lines. By virtue of the fact that you're reminded of a better time (hence 'nostalgia'), you make your point pretty clear: that older films were better than todays. Don't be so defensive.

  • I do not believe every movie from the past is better than now...watch Death Bed for an example. I do not even know why you decided to reply to my comment though, I didn't offend or say anything out of line at all. I stated my opinion that Smith's movies are great, because they're dialogue based which reminds me of great films that were dialogue based. Most films made way back when were dialogue based. Not everyone was good or had good dialogue. But, the good ones were good. So suck my cock.

  • @RecklessYouth333

Funny shite. Battle of wits. Keep going.

  • @unabomberman

Hardly any wits to battle. Dude makes an obvious implication and then pretends to not know what the fuck I'm talking about, and then appropriately ends it with "so suck my cock" like the whiny douchebag he sounds like. I'll just take the high road like Smith said. My fault for jumping into that pit.

  • @RecklessYouth333

I was actually making an allusion to the whole thing Kevin Smith is talking about, about how it was pointless.

    Anyways, laters.

  • yeah dude cop out sucked balls.you want them to blow hollywood in ya face?your way fuckin sweeter than that bullshit dude.yeah we want your opinion your in it we aren't plus you rock ass.

  • test

  • I would like to see Kevin make a sequal movie to Jay & SB Starike back lol, obviously call it "Return of Jay & SB" more adventures, more hot chcks, maybe bring back Shannon Elizabeth & Ali Larter? ; ) but this time including Megan Fox, Lindsay Lohan, Jaime Pressly, Natasha Henstridge, Stacy Dash and Eva Mendez.

  • Yeah, you can't get lost in all the loser opinions on the internet, it just make those people feel powerfull and those same people that are the most insecure in the world sadly lol.

  • The ironic thing is that movies that Smith could/should be doing are actually very profitable right now. Look at the hangover, hot tub time machine, and that whole genre. Smith would be great at making that kind of film.

  • I'm completely agree with him. Finally people in America started to think about it.

  • You give hope to the rest of us untalented pricks. ;)

  • i think he will start to write his most interesting things after he knew this, give him time :)

  • Anybody that hates Kevin Smith needs to listen to this video.....

  • lol i bet he could go on with this monologue forever =D

I didn't like "zakk & miri.." but he's a great filmmaker & in general one awesome guy! loved clerks..

  • randomly ran into Kevin on the street the other day (I live in Alaska). he was on a cruise here, pretty sweet... and his wife is hot.

  • Cop Out doesn't look that good to me, but I think Kevin Smith is a great filmmaker. Dogma was hilarious.

  • I'm a fucking asshole, but I can't control myself, I have to tell the truth. Hope Kev doesn't read this comments.

  • 5:29 he reminds me of Obi Wan Kenobi for a second, i have no idea why.

  • @greedoshotfirst1

It's the frame and robe he is wearing LOL. I believe it was totally unintentional - he is always wearing a robe.

BTW - Excellent name however everyone knows Greedo never even fired a shot :P

  • @negativeindustrial Bah. Greedo fired. I know he did. Lucas favored Han, so he made him OFFICIALLY shoot first. Or at least have a little twitch...

  • More people should see this!

  • Every person on /b/ should watch this video.

  • Sounds like a really cool guy to go for a coffee with.

  • Remind me to renew that restraining order - 'cus I'm gunna blast Kevin Smith on the internet tonight

    (..... unfortunately, he won't care.)

  • "just cuz I've always been that way doesn't mean I have to remain that way" exactly.

  • This is his Dennis Hopper moment out of Apocalypse Now... "you can't land on a fraction, maaan.."

  • check out the Kevin Smith Brocast commercial on Youtube

  • @ryharrington what the hell are you babbling about?

  • He's a cool dude.

  • What i'm trying to say, in an incredibly long-winded fashion, is that Kevin Smith is at a crossroads right now. It's catch 22. He is damned if he abandons the loyal and faithful, and damned if he continues to produce mediocre crap like Cop Out.

I'm sure Kevin has agonised over this position for years on end, but whatever he decides, let's hope something good comes out of it.

  • So with Red State aside, the big question is if K.Smith decides to more in a commercial direction on a permanent basis in near future, will he be successful? Will he appeal to the broader film going audience? The evidence at this point says no. He is too much of an idiosyncratic director for the mainstream, and that's exactly why his fans love him. On the other hand, it's arguably that he has pandered too much to his core fanbase since the Jay and Silent Bob film.

  • Whether K.S has sold out or not is open to debate and frankly not at all relevant because it's his life after all. The problem with him 'selling out' though is that he isn't particularly good at it, and by good i mean successful. The films made outside the View Askew universe were all critical and commercial bombs. Sure Kevin can console himself by saying that Cop Out was his highest grossing movie, but for a Bruce Willis vehicle aimed at the wider market, it was a flop, plain and simple.

  • Love your shit Kevin - your words too really interesting - however can't help thinking how "prince-world" reflects on you after seing this...sounds like "kevin-world" ain't that bad too...
