karate and traditional wushu does not mix at all.. im sorry but seeing how traditional weapons are becoming so modernized and forms are becoming just flashy and no meaning
Beautiful routine. But after 20 years, the more martial artists I'm runnin into, the more I'm wishing Asian cultures had kept these arts to themselves.
Nice routine but i gave me more of a artistic demonstration than an exhibition of the style..
Looksl like some parts she didnt put that much effort into and maybe it was the vid or the mic on the camera but you gotta make em sing i didnt hear the whips singing like the should...
Dallas? Try again. Washington, DC - one of the top tournaments on the NASKA circuit. She was against Jenny Espina, Caitlin Dechelle and Nicolle Provost, and tied for 2nd. Low level? They're some of the best competitors on the circuit. Awful performance? Let's see a video of you doing it any better, jackass.
I agree, guy's a jerk. Your student did an excellent job no matter her score. I train with the rope dart, but the whip chain seems like it might be a bit tougher. Great work.
I agree, the form you showed me wasnt as good or traditional as the ones ive seen him do before. check out my videos, i have two of him loaded on here
I have actually never seen his earlier forms - but I have heard from a couple of people that they were more traditional looking. I love traditional double chain work, hence the form posted here. But the form he did this year... I am posting it to my web site now. Take a look, then you'll know what I meant by "XMA-ifying" the form. evolutionkarateDOTcomSLASHdwcJohnSuDOTwmv
He still has sick talent, but could do with less theatrics. I DO like his older form better... but do like the "rewind" move in this one. I do see your point about how he has changed a little bit.
I agree, the "rewind" move is cool. I really do not like the attempt to strike w/ the chains, however. And starting w/ single chain, then separating them, seems like a neat idea, but I don't think it came off very well. This video was on sportmartialartsDOTcom a while back. I haven't been able to find anything else of his anywhere. A buddy of mine has an old 8mm tape of him doing chains about five years ago. He's supposed to be getting that tape to me - if he does, I'll post it here.
Yes, John Su was the first to bring this weapon to the curcuit. But he has tried to turn it into a sport karate weapon. Becca's form pulls only from traditional wushu movement without trying to XMA-ify itself. I personally do not like John Su's form.
John Su learned his chain whip basics from traditional northern style shaolin kung fu.
My Jhong Law Horn to be exact.
This girl is doing almost the exact same routin as he does. And how does what she is doing not qualify as xma. No handed cartwheels, butterfly movements. Looks awful suspicious of an XMA adaptation. What are you saying. Im just saying the lay out of her form is an almost duplicate of the one John Su wins with.
Perhaps you have not seen his most recent work? I know in the past he always did more "traditional" chain work. But from what I have seen, he has drastically altered his form. The form he did at CLN this year looks *nothing* like the form shown here.
And in any event, we hadn't seen John Su do whip chain until after we put this form together. So I guess my argument is mostly with your statement, "looks like she wants to be john su." And there is no way you can say the layout of her form is "an almost duplicate" of Su's form - again, not the form he did this year. The forms he has done in the past borrowed from traditional chain forms, as does this one. But the fact that they have the same source in no way means one is a copy of the other.
note to self.. dont fuck with this chick.. LOL

Too much skills, not enough respect.
Shame on so many students.

Thats not a bad thing. I mean, John su was taught butterfly twists, and all those aerials from his Sifu.
A traditional northern style teacher. How is that XMA?
It doesnt matter.
