  • helt konge....smila mæ igjennom serien din :) :)

  • @bragvin1 Tusen takk, hyggelig at du likte det :-)

  • there seems to be a trend of famous artists recording behind the scenes with Gibsons, but preferring to perform live with their Fenders.

Is Gibson the "secret" friend they don't want to be seen in public with? And Fender the popular friend they want to be seen in public with? LOL

  • Good sound.....

You are incredible! The work you probably put in to this impresses me. It's inspiring to whach how you master so many styles.

  • @GabonViper1981 Tusen takk, det var veldig hyggelig å høre!

  • this is soooo great Man !!! i think you are amazing whit the guitar, and the best end of this video is whit petrucci :P XD

  • @IRONWILLI Thanks!

  • @lolaedin Tusen takk :-)

  • I just wanted to point out that everything after eddie van halen has pretty much been a copy of his style he revolutionized the type of guitar called shredding. soo everything done after him is just a copy and theres not need to post 6 guitar players doing the same thing. Eddie van halen and randy rhoads then SRV should be how this video ends!

  • @geoff101001 Well, I kinda understand what you mean, but I don't agree. Eddie might have revolutionized rock guitar and influenced and paved the way for many others after him, but I don't agree they are all just "doing the same thing".. ;-)

  • Hell yeah dude. Cheers from Texas

  • @danfretland Slash is included in my (R)evolution of Rock Guitar video part 4

  • Where is Carlos Santana ???

  • @mihai2k9 He's included in my newer "(R)evolution of Rock Guitar" video series, part 2..

  • I've watched this entire series. Great work. You are the Ken Burns of electric guitar and rock and roll history. You are a virtuoso in your own right.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but, Jimi and SRV... You are a curator, but they can never be replicated. This is my only artistic - I don't know what to call it, I hate to call it criticism - but you sounded a bit mechanical. That doesn't suggest that you are deficient; Jimi and SRV were pure geniuses on the order of Mozart.

  • @marquetterocks1 Thanks! And I know what you mean, of course, it's impossible to replicate all these legends, but you can honor them by trying to.. ;-)

  • wow, i sat through all 4 of these just amazed at your tone, technique, selection of tunes, the whole time i'm like "doesn't this guy ever smile?" then right at the end! lol!

great job. i don't speak swedish but my wife does so.....det vår underbart! imponerande! Hålla på med detta bra arbete!, she tells me you are either Danish or Norwegian but will understand. lol

  • @steamonic Thanks and tusen takk! (I'm norwegian.. ;-)

  • You're just great !! I really enjoy to look all your videos !! :D

    Keep it up !! ;)

  • Awesome stutt man. Im currently looking into the Axe-Fx. What setup do you use live on stage? PA or Atomic? Or some other setup?

  • Rednebb - you are the man!!

Do you have other favourite styles?

  • @tvaiotu Thanks! I'm open to all kinds of styles, I guess, as I say in my channel: I like all good music performed by good musicians.. But I must admit I have some problems with "gangsta rap" for instance.. ;-)

  • @rednebb dont you like snoop soggy dogg??

  • @hiladelphia No.. ;-)

  • nice stuff lots of information and great talent.

but were is Andy Timmons you didnt mention him although he is a brilliant guitarist but he is always underrated

  • @mest3dg Thanks! No, and there were a lot of other great players I didn't mention either, but I had to make a selection, so I focused mainly on the more common-known names

  • may I have your email?

  • @raulnieblas Just send me a personal message on youtube first..

  • @rednebb Is it possible to get your backing tracks or set up a customized one?

  • @raulnieblas You'll find most of them on the sites guitarbt or guitarbackingtrack, but I also edited and made som of them myself. Send me a personal message through my profile and we can take it from there

  • Hi, I've now listened to the 4 parts and forwarded them to my Facebook profile. Absolutely great!!! Would have needed you as lead guitar player on my recordings ;-)

  • @gollolux Thanks!

  • Awsome awsome ...any Holdsworth???

  • @251dog Thanks, and no, sorry ( I don't dare..;-)

  • amazing list! an your talent is just infinite

couldve used alil guns n roses tho. but hey u cant cover everything right?

  • @nac00nac Thank you, I have actually included G'N'R in my (R)evolution of Rock Guitar/Axe Fx Ultra video series (part 3, I think..)

  • Nice video, I only miss the beatles and Iron Maiden on the list.

  • @BtBEviL Thanks, but Beatles were in the Part I video..

  • dude, you're scary good. LOVE the Cliffs of Dover performance (I've seen it played to have the feel of the original, *very* hard to do). Neck pick up?

    You've got a new fan :)

  • @palizzz Thanks, I appreciate that! Yes, I believe I used the neck pickup..

  • Man , that's an amazing project! Kudos to you. Of course you couldn't fit everyone in, but it would have been nice to see some Santana in there too.

  • @kalavic Thanks! I've included both Santana and others in my follow-up video series; (R)evolution of Rock Guitar..Axe Fx Ultra, please check it out if you like!

  • Wow! Thank you so much for your videos! Your playing and video editing are impeccable. Probably the best guitar related videos on Youtube that I've seen (along with Jun626). I've just subscribed.

  • @sambenenge Thank you very much!

  • It's great to see a Norwegian kick ass on the guitar. Your video was great to watch AND listen to. Mit navn ad Yusef and Norway rules!

  • @leatherface75 Thanks ;-)

  • Veldig imponert!!!

    (Stemmer for Hetfield jeg og...)

    Miki

  • Insane... that's the only thing I have to say.... :D

  • I have to disagree (with all due respect) to the comment about your picking...I think you're fine picker with fine picking dynamics. If you spent 5 to 10 years working on your own material the odds are the Eric Johnson and other greats wouldn't play it with the same feel either.

What would be your favorite style or greatest strength, musically, on guitar that you play? I'd be keen to know

  • @Timerrin Thanks ;-) Well, I like to play different styles, but if I had to choose I would have to say "classic rock" from the late '60s, 70s and 80's. And I would also have to mention fusion/jazz-rock from the same period.

  • Awesome!

  • Excellent! I dont mind the pauses. For one it gives a great introduction to the artist being showcased. Keep it up Rednebb!

    P.S. where are you from?

  • Thanks! Norway.

  • Too bad like 80% of video is quiet.. oucld have used some back-ground music!

  • 80%? I think you're exaggerating just a bit.. Yeah, maybe I should have put in some background music, but I thought it would be ok with some silence to make you focus on the text..

  • @MilkyFan Try with the sound on ;)

  • This is an extraordinaire well done work! I am using it for my guitar alumns in as a enlightened superb example about guitar history. About playing in a detailed view I can note an impressive use of technics but again a great emotional approach in each example. About picking dynamics for me is so right overall, I challenge anyone to complete such degree of work and production in a zero flaw index, note in those 4 videos redneb join together near to 100 years of guitar history!!

  • Thanks, I really appreciate that!

  • I hope evolution of rock don't die

  • Yeah, me too ;-)

  • You are a good player but you arent so good in picking dynamics. You do play right notes but the dynamics isnt there. Not sure if its the amp or you. But you are good anyway :D :D

  • Nice one yet again man; A really comprehesive guide to the guitar over the years, styles, axes and axemen. I began at ten with my first student guitar my bro' bought me because I was sick in hospital for something to do. 38 years later, 8 guitars and several amps blown and used to death I'm still playing but for fun these days...my gigging days are done, thankfully. But it's better now I play for myown amusement.

  • Thanks, and keep on playing for fun!

  • great videos and great playing, thanks a lot!

for future guitarists, id suggest ron thal, govan, matthias ia eklundh ;)

  • Thanks! Yeah, I agree, those guys are amazing, but I would have to practice a lot to be able to play some of their stuff..

  • Nice. I've found a lot of inspitration in this videos, thank you. What's your method to play the solos from other players, you simply hear and play it by ear, you write the notes in sheet music(score), tabs...??

    Thanks.

  • Thanks. The most important thing is to listen to the original recordings, of course, but I also use sheet music or tabs if available.

  • Do you think you can record this clips with an Axe-Fx Standard without differences is terms of sounding?

  • Yeah, I guess..? In this video I'm not using the Axe-Fx Ultra, though (see "more info"), but

I'll be making a part 4 of my "(R)evolution of Rock Guitar-Axe-FX Ultra" video series soon, where I'm gonna include some of the same songs played through the Axe-Fx.

  • Is it possible swapping presets between the Ultra and the Standard? I'm asking about presets wich haven't the special features of the Ultra.

    Thanks!

  • I would think so. Have you checked the Fractalaudio forum? There might be some more info on this issue there.

  • nice job, how many years do you have playing guitar?, how many guitars do u have? xD, you can be the next guitar heroe :P

  • Thanks, I've been playing for 30+ years, and I have 20+ guitars.. ;-)

  • MOLTO BRAVO

  • amazing !! thanks !

  • Really great great your "evolution of rock guitar" 4 videos.

You are a very good guitar player.

All is perfect for me in theses,

    even your end smiles !-)

  • Thanks ;-)

  • Utrolig fett.

  • What a fantastic overview of the evolution of Rock Guitar in your 4 vids. I´m very impressed, how you manage to play all these different styles. 5 stars!

  • Thanks! I'm actually doing a new updated version of this now,

called "(R)evolution of Rock Guitar" (part 1 is already out), doubling as a demo of my new Axe-Fx Ultra preamp/fx processor. Hope you'll enjoy them too!

  • Are you High .?

No Dime bag..... he was easily one of the greatest guitarists of all time, he had so much soul when he played... you cant teach that

  • Agreed but it is the history through his eyes.

It's his own opinion of things, you gotta respect it.

  • Oh Stop

Dimebag was no inspiration. His sound was horrid too

  • you cannot be serious?

  • I'm actually trying to learn the "Glagow kiss" and I noticed that you play it differently than john petrucci himself, the sound is the same, but is it easier the way you play it?

Anyway, great vid, keep on rocking ;)

    greetings from germany,

    Fred

  • Thanks! Yes, Petrucci changes the fingering when he plays the main theme an octave up. But I think it's easier to use the fingering from the octave part on the first part, too. And I think I'm using different fingerings a couple of other places, too. But what works best for one guitarist does not necessary work best for an other, so experimenting with different fingerings and techniques can often pay off.. Keep on rocking yourself!

  • Very nice job on all 4 videos. However, I was very disappointed that the great Steve Howe was not mentioned in any of the videos.

  • Thanks! Well, I had to make a rough selection, and he didn't make it, sorry..

  • u did an awesome job on this, my favorite was the charlie christian solo on the first part, u rocked the shiit out of the guitar. im still missin iommi, zakk, dimebag, slash, the edge and jack white. thanks a lot 4 all the good spirit.

  • Thanks! Yeah, I know that many people are missing some of their favorites, sorry.. Maybe I'll have to make a Part V then..? ;-)

  • Ya. Definately Black Sabbath at a minimum. Also, Dave Murray from Maiden - whose primary influence was clearly hendrix. Also, lets not forget Slash from GNR. His out of phase and clean distortion was very effective. Good cover.

  • Buckethead, Jack White next?

  • Very nice. You forgot Bumblefoot though. But then you'd have to buy a fretless guitar to play Raygun, Fly in the Batter, or Wasted Away. ;)

  • Thanks! That's actually one guitar that I don't have yet (hmm.. ;-)

  • which one is that? :D

  • ?..

  • Watching you play Glasgow Kiss.. I feel your pain :P that song is so hard on the hands!

  • The entire series is fantastic, but where;s Slash? But nice work with the videos, and you have an amazing collection of guitars.

  • Thanks! He's in Hollywood somewhere, I think.. ? ;-)

  • Watched all 4 videos, great stuff. Sorry to see no Gary Moore, but happy to see no Angus Young. Thanks for posting quality vids Ketil, unlike some of the rubbish that often put up here.

  • Thank you very much! Yeah, I know, Gary Moore and many others would certainly be worthy, but I had to make a brutal selection and unfortunately he didn't make it this time.. ;-)

  • Sorry to see no Tony Iommi myself.

  • Yeah, I know, he's one of many other great guitarists that I could have included here, but I wanted to finish this project before my summer holiday was over, so I just had to draw the line..

  • i can see your in guitar mode when u play ur so serious lol love ur playing Mr dude i need to practice more so i can catch up to you lol

  • Comment removed

  • Very instructive your four video, thanks a lot for those informations!

I'm very impressed of the number of different style that you can play.. congrats! I've never thought that someone could play malmsteen stuff as well as blues or anything!

That motivates me to practice more!

  • Thanks!

  • where is paul gilbert? noooooooooooooooooo

  • Sorry, he was left out along with a whole bunch of others, I had to make a selection..

  • Steike, her går det unna!

  • I have enjoyed your videos very much. Thank you for them! You have probably got many suggestions about more guitar heroes, and of course there are hundreds worth being mentioned. But right now I miss one in particular. His name: Jan Akkerman =) And also, we can't talk about the roch without mentioning the Young brothers! So you still have looots of videos to do. hehe

  • Thanks! Well, I had to make selections and limitations, or else this video series would never have been finished.. ;-) Like I commented in the video info some of you might not be entirely satisfied with the choices I've made, but they are based on personal preferences and musical and historical importance as I see it.. But I agree, there are a whole bunch of great players that would have been worth mentioning, like Akkerman and the Young brothers and maybe a hundred others..

  • I want more!! :) I always admire your talent !

  • What a joy! :D

  • You should do the next part! n please please PLEASE include John Frusciante from The Red Hot Chili Peppers. :D thanks

  • I want next part :D

  • I can't wait for you to get into the 90 rock era!

  • flott :)

der kom resten av favoritene mine.

Utrolig bra serie og flott spilt

  • Hehe, bra.. Tusen takk!

  • Du er sykt god. Men hvor er Paul Gilbert? :O

  • I like how you play Glasgow Kiss your own way.... 5 stars

  • Thanks! So you noticed my different fingerings..?

  • yes indeed. Its normally played in 7th position. I tend to find my own way of doing thing as well since im self taught. Hopefully i can be at your level one day...

  • Yeah, I tried that, but it felt better and more logical to me to use the same fingering as on the octave up part. But that's one of the things that's so great about the guitar, you can play the same thing many different ways.. Thanks!

  • does slash made an appearance in any of your vids?

  • No, sorry..

  • nice nice :p

  • As always nice! 5*

  • pure talent right here, im hoping to get as good as him if i practice enough =D excellent work!

  • this is good!!!!

  • Sir, you deserve to be on the end of that proud list. Good work!

  • 5th?

  • Fourth!

  • 3rd?

  • 2nd ! hahah

    EXCELLENT!²
