  • What year was this

  • Ooh...I didn't know a version of this existed on YouTube! I have the Japanese album it's from. It's wonderful.

  • That last line of the intro "...the candy or your front window"still cracks me up even after all these years

    P.s. I think one of their bass players was Milt Okun.

  • I grew up with this! lol! sweet memories...thanks for sharing

  • @ rainbowcougar,

    The pleasure is mine! :-)

  • I was able to produce 1 .ffftve with the G-minor experiment. Any other tones?

    Franklin Ghost Tones.

  • I love the guitar work at the beginning.

  • If you pay attention to the lyric, they were telling about the social unjust, Peter, Paul & Mary songs never dated. Just look around, what they have been telling still happens.

  • Oh my goodness! I sang this is in like, fourth grade or something in music class!!!! But only part of it.

  • This is the original to Sting's "Soul Cake". Paul Stookey wrote it together with Tracey Batteast & Elena Mezetti, based on the English folk song Hey ho, nobody home. First released on Peter, Paul and Mary's second album, Moving (1963).

  • Wow! I don't know how many times Paul said his little preamble, but it sure sounds like the recording of this song. This must be from the sixties. They should give credit to the bass player who also played, I do believe, on Lightfoot's first album. Thanks so much for this posting!

  • My pleasure. This account of kids trick or treating is very funny! "What's it going to be pop, candy or your front window?" Cracks me up. Glad you enjoyed it. :-)

  • @kyanite2 More then likely the bass player was Dick Kniss who was with PP&M for their entire career. Paul Prestopino would often play backup guitar or mandolin as well

  • Always associated this song with Christmas. Ain't Christmas for me 'til I hear four songs: Nat Cole's "Christmas Song", "Blue Christmas" by Elvis, "Little Saint Nick" by The Beach Boys and this. Merry Christmas!

  • Merry Christmas to you too and I also like the old song " Do You Hear What I Hear" !.

    Peace and Love,

    ~~~ Chuck
  • I never knew the name of this song until tonight when it played on the radio just now. I found the name title on the radio stations website. Thanks for posting! I can't believe I finally found it!
  • Don't you love coincidences like that? LOL. Blows your mind when things like that happen.
  • OMG, I have the DVD for over ten years and have been looking for any video of the DVD for many years.........thanks for the post.
  • My pleasure. Glad to be of service! ~~ Chuck S
  • I listened to their album with this song over and over and over on my turntable when I was young. What a flashback! Thanks for posting this video.
