You have to remember though that some people actually have seen the band more than once and like me, if I see someone for the first time I take it all in, more than once I do headbang and join a moshpit if there is one..

Moshing or Headbanging is not mandatory and you don't have to join, you can actually get security on someone who is dragging you unwillingly into one.

Also the bands love seeing mosh pits and headbanging. It is not retarded, not at all. Bands like Testament, Kreator, even Metallica want to see people mosh and headbang and they fucking love it!!! They love it more than anything, it is energy they feed on to play louder and better. Watch Metal documentaries with almost any band will talk about the people moshing and how they love it.

Headbanding in a circle is a way to show the artist how much you love their music and contribution to great art.
