  • Well I don't think I had to worry about vacuum advance because it was electronic ignition. But I could be wrong. I did set the timing with a timing light and the indicator by the cooling fan. you look up the correct specs and set it by turning the distributor while it's runing and watch for the correct point from the timing light. use a 009 distributor and a compufire ignition or something like it.

  • I am thinking about going to this carb set up... do they have chokes? how do they run in cold weather for you? I'd be a little worried because you don't get a head riser set up, right ?

  • They work great. you do need to adjust them from time to time with a synchronizer but not a problem. the shorter manifold body gives great response, and with the 40mm you get a good boost in HP with reasonable daily driver characteristics. I had this bus on the road when I moved to Vermont in the winter of 2002 2003, it was cold cold cold, with average temps in January and February around -20. the bus always started up and ran well even when my friends Honda would not.

  • got a 72 bus need to know about choke for the weber carbs. and thinking about putting electronic ignition on it, after hearing yours and how smooth it runs with no pops I think electronic ignition is a must. gooooooooooooooo 72 bay window buses.

  • not sure about the choke on other carbs, I know these webbers were automatic choke. I burned points up so ended switching to electronic ignition, if you hear a lot of poping check your timing in the distributor, make shure your air / fuel mixture is set right on the carbs, those are the biggest problems and with electronic ignition you will still need to make sure your timing is right.

  • Right on, dude. I got the 1700 original engine (never rebuilt) and it's got a Holley 2-barrell progressive Weber on it. Oh, and it has the EMPI glasspack as well. I've got to upgrade to the 1835 Stroker, though. Nice bus!

  • Because I decided to hook up more blowing power combined with a inline blower at the front it was enough blowing power to make the whole van toasty in sub 0 weather.

  • why are there 2 heater fans on the top of the engine bay?
