Rachel has been dancing for nearly 20 years if I'm not mistaken, she started in 1989 with yoga training but joined with the Indigo I think 2002. Rachel can hold her entire body still like stone while moving her hip or stomach or another part, many other dancers I've seen doesn't have that ability.
Look up Ariellah, she would be much easier to imitate than Rachel- if you try imitating Rachel, you better have trained yoga, be able to roll your stomach and do body drops without your knees touching the ground. :)
i think all dances are about the music, and how your able to interpret it to your own accord but if ur asking specifically, i think that the didem style does have a lot isolated hip/chest movment but i believe that u use movements u learned to match the specific sounds of the music.

I love what she said in interview, about how dance practice needs to be done consistantly, over a long period of time, with devotion. That's the Sanskrit tattoo on her belly. Rachel is massively talented, but she also worked very long and devotedly to master dance the way she has. Inspiring! Practice, practice, practice!

It's not nice to be insulting other people. Like MsDivalicious01 said they are two different artists and performers. You can't compare one to the other, and I've been a Shakira fan for a long, long time and I love the way she dances, she mixes different movements and converts them into her own. Rachel is truly devoted to BD just like Shakira is devoted to her music and writing her songs, that's where she spends most of her time, not bellydancing.
And that is the reason I felt in love with Rachel, I have always loved snakes and when I saw Rachel, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, she is unreal and her slow motion movements are unbelievable. Out of the one million muscles that we have, she moves all of them, one by one ;)

I try to educate anyone who will listen. If you want to know about real bellydance or just want to know about Rachel Brice friend me and I willshare all that I have learned. Rachel Brice is a true goddess, this video does nothing more than prove it. And that 'tattoo' (one of many)mentioned earlier - it's sandscrit (anchient egyptian) meant to protect her body. I've seen this woman perform in real life, she's nothing short of amazing.
Sanskrit is Indian, not Egyptian. It is an ancient indo-european language- the great-grandaddy of languages like hindu, greek and even english. It has nearly nothing to do with egypt or egyptian script.
Her tattoo actually says something like "in order to be grounded in one's practice, it must be done consistantly and over a long period of time". More of a blessing for the art, not necessarily her body.
The 'Tramp Stamp' is what all serious bellydancers fight against. I cannot tell you the sheer number of people whom I have told "I'm a bellydancer." have responded with "So, you're a stipper, right?"
Bellydance is a true artform. It is studied and practiced like ballet and jazz. You never ask a tap dancer if they strip.

Yeah, I've got that before too and it drives me insane! Belly dance is an ancient art form. I understand now that most people in North America have no idea what belly dance really is and it's up to us dancers to educate them.

Rachel is absolutely stunning and the camera always loves her. She is truly talented and was born to dance. Shakira is good at what she does but it's pointless and a waste of time to compare the two women to each other; that's like comparing apples to oranges.

to what temur20 said....hinduism had its origins around 5500-3300 BCE and as for sanskrit...it can be dated back 1700 BCE...and sanskrit IS an "indian"/ indo-aryan language. the hindu scriptures are found to be originally written in sanskrit

I try to educate anyone who will listen. If you want to know about real bellydance or just want to know about Rachel Brice friend me and I willshare all that I have learned. Rachel Brice is a true goddess, this video does nothing more than prove it. And that 'tattoo' (one of many)mentioned earlier - it's sandscrit (anchient egyptian) meant to protect her body. I've seen this woman perform in real life, she's nothing short of amazing.

Sanskrit is Indian, not Egyptian. It is an ancient indo-european language- the great-grandaddy of languages like hindu, greek and even english. It has nearly nothing to do with egypt or egyptian script.

Her tattoo actually says something like "in order to be grounded in one's practice, it must be done consistantly and over a long period of time". More of a blessing for the art, not necessarily her body.

The 'Tramp Stamp' is what all serious bellydancers fight against. I cannot tell you the sheer number of people whom I have told "I'm a bellydancer." have responded with "So, you're a stipper, right?"
Bellydance is a true artform. It is studied and practiced like ballet and jazz. You never ask a tap dancer if they strip.

oh i understand now, i havent been asked that yet because my boyfriend is from cyprus which is a greek island near egypt and lebanon, they value the beauty of this dance- but in england i was told not to put "bellydance" as a hobby on my cv if i apply for jobs etc.

Yeah, I've got that before too and it drives me insane! Belly dance is an ancient art form. I understand now that most people in North America have no idea what belly dance really is and it's up to us dancers to educate them.

That tattoo is beautiful and original. It says a lot about who she is and how far she's come. Look at it this way: she avoided the tramp stamp.

What a crying shame that a mindboggling, hot, talented chick like this clutters herself with tattoos. That's like carving your initials with keys on the side of a Rolls Royce - it ruins a priceless piece of art.
