  • I was 17 years in 1985 and was playing drums in a band in Paris...All the band's members were Chameleons huge fans..This was in 1985..Then 16 years passes , we found jobs , some had kids , some divorced...Suddenly In 2001 , The same band members call each other to see the Chameleons live in ..Paris for a unique show..Ungorgettable moment..We nearly cried at this end........We are now all 42 years old and still listen to this legend band

  • @BorlandRIP7 lucky bugger been a fan since '81 n they still give me a huge buzz saw them last week n cant wait to do the same in august .Manchesters finest EVER !!!!!

  • one of my all time favorite tunes... from an all time great band.

  • @GreenTubesPuppets Yes indeed. One of the greatest bands ever not to reap the riches of so called 'fame'they so deserve.......but i guess the're ok with that ? (i certainly am cos ot means they gig in Macclesfield !!.....good on ya Mark)

  • Guitar at start sends shivers up spine. Top top band. Underated yes, but never undervalued.

  • Percussions, other than the drums became a bit 'grinding' after a while but this band just does it for me :)

  • good direct :) i like :)

  • music should hang up its boots,,,,

because nothing will surpass the chameleons

  • This recording stops time, so beautiful

  • BOSS!!!!!!!!!!!!check out THE LIDS

  • Still brilliant!

    Manchester UK!

  • just amazing, I've loved this band since the early 80's....

  • this is just awesome. I'm awestruck by this performance. And this is the first time I heard this song. Honestly rarely am I this much awestruck by a performance. Consider me a fan.

  • wow. this is the stuff dreams are made of. a definite wonderous performance.

  • Chameleons and Second Skin are both hardcore porn films from John Leslie. Coincidence?

  • Jorge ja somos 2 man

    my god this perfect

Lufiloi vamos trazer ca os Chameleons fodass.

  • Hugh,

Temos de fazer uma petição e saber quantos interessados temos, depois é arranjar um promotor e trazer os chameleons cá.

    E, por último, celebrar...abraços

  • hairs on me back standing up....comments on here are echoed....

  • stay tuned chameleons fans there might be something coming your way soon...

  • intriguing...... :-)

  • details please!

  • WORD, rooney! it's frikkin crying SHAME that the chameleons were'nt bigger than echo, etc. i don't know who wrote better songs, but i'm POSITIVE mark was/is a better human being than that prick Ian. too bad mark & will couldnt' have played together :-)

  • this is the price of playing for the love of music and not selling your soul to a commercial record company..:) on Xfactor they/he would be told to go.. and rightly so.. for this is pure music for the awakened pure of heart music lovers, bliss in conception and untouched by commercialism..

mark, you are as inspiring as ian curtis..keeping music alive and out of the mainstream. you and your band have the sacred gene.. dont stop ever! peace and love :)

  • Words to express this music?.... Second Skin is a work of musical genius, a true masterpiece and a timeless classic

  • No words to express the excellence of this music.

Mark you are god in earth.

    Hope you come to portugal.

    jorge the portuguese fan

  • mr b you have all floored me again!!! john lennon had 0 on your lyrics , so glad to have met you all

  • I grew up listening to Joy Division, the Jesus & Mary Chain and The Chameleons (and much more, obviously). The Chameleons had (and still have) that special place in my soul. Awesome voice, lyrics and guitars. Unfortunately, greatly underrated or unknown by the mass.

  • brutal 5 stars

  • trop fort trop bon merci a eux ainsi que the sound joy division the cure etc....... tres bonne epoque musical

  • I was thinking the same thing buenosaireschick. Spooky.

  • best guitar sound i ever heard,amazing!

  • They are in my soul, 20+years. This is the most amazing video, I had no idea they could do more with my favorite song ever, and they deliver! Please play this at my funeral.

  • I love these guys!! Untouchable music!! No band in the world comes close to their guitar melodies, percussion and brilliantly executed nostalgic lyrics!! Forever shall these songs dwell in my thoughts and feelings...haha... I sound emo! BUT hell....you know it's true

  • also in spain we love them.People used to wait their songs in the club and when the vinyl was on ,all the people came crazy ,dancing, jumping y trying to sing as well ...specially with that precious song

  • Is it me or is Mark Burgess slowly turning into Geddy Lee?

  • he always does

  • It does appear so, doesn't it (sans voice, thank Christ).

  • I think exactly this is the absolutly best version of second skin at all.

And this version of the song shows how important Dave and Reginald´s guitars are for the band.

And listen to the end of the vid.

Mark said " Thank you for giving us the opportunity to do this.. "

I´m deeply impressed . Thats the greatest band this world had ever seen.

  • Nothing touches the original. Sorry.

  • I'm not keen on different versions from originals but this has to be one of the best ever !!! Absolute brilliance!!

  • THE TIDE IS TURNING!

peace and love to all beings in all worlds!

  • Can anyone explain why U2 continue to make so much money? So sad. Bono with all his pontificating while moving his millions offshore Ireland. Mark Burgess is the balls...should have been a bigger star....better lyrics and just a less "pontificating" Bono type guy....Cheers

  • In my country we say "honey was not made for the pig's mouth" lol...

  • They stayed together. For 30 years. But on the music alone, the Chameleons are far better. Its a joy to grow old with their music in my head.

  • MGira, you're tripping. This is a great version. I plan on buying this DVD now. Anyone got a link?

  • google " red sun records ascension DVD "

  • this is a fucking horrible version, frankly

  • It is impossible to make a horrible version of this song.

  • you take me away, that`s great.since many years

    thanks a lot

  • amazing song

  • Hey Daniela !

You could be proud of this guy. The best wishes to HH.

  • I agree this song sounds much more beautiful in this live version than the recorded version. I love the guitars in this performance!!

  • So, if i could turn the clock back ,would i do again ?

    Absolutly !

Mark Burgess " View from a hill "

  • this is the best version of second skin, better than album version ,so raw yet not!dave n reg compliment each other on guitars ,and when mark kicks in with his bass ...wow , best band ever ,just makes me so mad that they cant get on with each other. went to see mark play with sun and moon ,the mans a genius. but saying that without reg n dave theres just something missing, this sound is what its all about to me , no fancy heavy rock bollocks just the sweet harmonies of dave n reg , pure music

  • I had the privilege to sing with them!It was in Berlin Kreuzberg in the late 80's...They played in a club and there were maybe 20 people listening to them...so we had a jam session together...amazing...I will never forget!I'm 45 now!

  • say WHAT YOU FUCKING WANT..MARK BURGESS AND THE CHAMELEONS..IS THE BEST BAND EVER

  • Many of this bands stellar works are about mental illness and the human condition as a whole being at a state of less than fully evolved-not surprising at all that individuals such as those posting would gravitate towards such themes , as they appear to have more than just a passing familiarity, and seem maladjusted enough to appreciate such topics........

  • simply put - you are a pretentious pious twat.

sometimes great music is just great music - why cant we just enjoy it without all your psycho babble.

if you have recorded anything better lets hear it otherwise - !!!!!!!!

  • Dick head

  • Truely superb,a band who deserve far more recognition than they actually got.

  • The chameleons are 1000 times better live. You say that only because you have not purchased any of their live DVD.Insults are not rewarded here.

  • Did I say "I fucking hate them!!"? No. I said "I like the cover better, though that is personal taste." Respect my opinion.

  • What the hell are you both going on about?,this is a band who are way ahead of their time, the song is awesom, live or not its still the same...

  • this is ok for a live gig, but you cant beat the recorded version.

  • No, that is what you think. That doesn't make it a fact.

And I know it's their original song, that's why I said cover. >_>

  • I like Jesus on Extasy's cover better. But that's personal taste.

  • xJoyce- its the Chams' original song.

  • Read my comment before replying. Thank you.

  • youre just a bitch.

  • How very mature!

  • typical response from someone like you.

  • You're 40, right?

  • oh so many memories!

  • strange times, script of the bridge, john peel sesions, have em all, classic group. hey mark get yer arse in gear up tae edinburgh.....:-)

  • wow

  • thanks for putting this on...have it on vinyl but no record player anymore...great to hear again

  • This is great...Thanks

(The Chameleons still ride with me in my ipod) THe music is timeless...

  • noone has yet to catch up.

  • I remember listening to this with my mate Nige years ago at college. He was there at San Fran' gigs......I made do,if thats the right words, with the practice gig in Manchester.....bloody superb!!!!!and there's not much that beats it even now....20 years on!!!!!

  • Great band, but Mark, you need a haircut mate!

  • Very beautiful.

  • Very beautiful.

  • i dedicated this melody to You !!!

yeahs i feel like im everywhere best part ... until u reach the point whenu know its only your second skin ....... BANG!!!!

  • man, yeah... the chams were the best post-punk band in that era in my opinion.. why didnt they become huge?... like.. HUUUUGE...???

  • Mercedes Sosa???

  • As good as it gets.

    Heres my top 5

    Second Skin

    Monkeyland

    Dont Fall

    Less Than Human

    Nostalgia

Tears - ok thats six but it has to be the album version as Kamon67 mentioned.

I will always class myself as being priveleged having seen them countless times

  • A perfect song, sad that this band was underrated, but many bands recognize their influence. The acoustic version of the fan and the bellows it is awsome too.

  • this song does literally bring a tear to my eye... how these guys weren't instant superstars is beyond me..

  • saw them play in middleton in the 80s, awesome

  • just making my eyes wet... so touching me, thank you !!

  • Defianlty my best band ever...

This second skin version is so delighted

    My Chams's top 5:

1- Second skin (john peel session version)

2- Tears ( version of the album: Never ending)

    3- Paper tiger

    4-Childhood

    5- Monkey Land

  • The best band ever to perform on this damn planet, the most underrated, too. Mark Burgess has been writing some of the most fantastic and heartfelt lyrics, "Script Of The Bridge" is too beautiful for words and "Second Skin" is the epitome of what The Chams have been all about. Thank you!

  • Stumbled on Strange Times in a Radio Shack in 1986 as a confused teen. Have held it dear to my heart since with the rest of their efforts. A very human experience these blokes. God love them.

  • just great, one of my top, three Songs..

  • One of their best tracks. Absolutely Fantastic.

  • Just to add something. This band have been around for 25 years or so (with a big gap in between) yet go into any record/CD shop and all their back catologue is fething top price. No cheap £3.99 pick-ups to replace your old vinyl. maybe that tells us something.

  • Early eighties i was introduced to this band. I still now lend tracks out to new mates who wonder what i am on about. They always then ask me why i havent enlightened them before. Probably the most underated band ever. I hope they get the respect they deserve someday

    Wilkie

  • this guy is so damn right!

  • indeed

  • Mark Burgess is god. end of story.

  • My God... This is the highlight of the best gig I ever went to...I am one of the many long-hired 80s clones down the front. The band's sound was, and still is anything but unoriginal. .thanks a mill to whoever posted it. brings it all back.... long live The Chameleons

  • Thanks for this, have been a fan for 20 yrs or so!! awesome band, 'Script of the Bridge' a classic of all albums.

  • There has never been a band so missed out on by many but so enjoyed by the few - thankfuly i am one of the few. Seen them live in Manchester on many occasion and they are up there with the best

  • Thanks! First half quite strange in the acoustic version, I prefer it electric. But when Mark takes back his bass, all the magic comes back

  • I think at the end Mark repeats the chorus "the times are turning".Is he the so long awaited new age prophet? xDDD

Dave Fielding uses flanger effect the last minute of the song.Killer guitar skills...

  • Thanks TheChameleons73! The music of this band is not of this earth, with The Sound in my opinion the most underrated band of the world.

  • FIRST!! Thank you for sharing, my dutch friend, absolutely incredible!!!
