I completed the Dawnseekers demo... Very good. Also when I went on your site, couldn't read the text... but it looks like your making a Super Smash Bros remake for the DS?
@Oveneise thanks ! :) as for the smash bros thing, the screenshots I posted are taken from a demo of the Dawnseekers engine adapted to make a side scrolling game. I used some smash bros 64 environments for fun and to prove it would be possible to make a 3D remake of smash bros on the DS. But no, I'm not working on such a remake myself, sorry. :(
no way this can be a ds game, even a homebrew... it looks way too good. wow im in shock lol. great job, cant wait to test it out. so this proves that the DS can have a hell of alot better graphics (even tho i love the DS how it is, an up on some things cant hurt)
It uses Payk's DS optimized md2 model loader for the models (gun and enemies), but everything else (static and dynamic lights, map loader/renderer, collisions) was written from scratch by Smealum.
This looks promising, I'm going to buy a DS flash card soon, I'm also interested in DS homebrew development, although I'm more of an artist than a programmer. It would be cool if you made this a 3D engine so other people can simple use it for their 3D projects. anyway, keep up the good work!
I am very impressed. Great job. Hope to see more stuff from you. But the MD2 loader isn't the best approach. Prepare some matrieces in the stack and use a static displaylists which jumps in the stack would be the fastest way, i found out. I may write such a bone based modelloader soon ;) Greetz and keep up the great work.
Hehe, thanks a lot Payk ! I've actually worked on optimizing your MD2 renderer a bit, and with only a few changes i made it be twice as fast ! So yeah, I'm sure there are still many ways of improving it, even though the way it is right now is just fine for me. :P
Thanks. Don't worry, the graphics are just temporary. As for the gun's motion, it's due to the video capture process. I won't go into any sort of details here, but basically, the video capture slowed the game down to 7FPS instead of 60, so playing normally was hard. I then had to speed it up to 60FPS in order to give a good idea of the game's normal speed, but the result is kind of strange. ;)
Looks awesome, I just hopped on over here from DS-Scene and all I want to say is: Keep up the awesome work smealum, I look forward to a playable release soon, and 6 months is not soon enough :P
Before anyone asks, yes, the gun is from quake 2. All the graphic resources (models, map, textures) are temporary and there purely for testing purposes.

DSi has greater processing power. So the DS itself has a pretty good graphics card. But the DSi= greater processing power..

Hey what software did you use to make this homebrew game?
MEZreviews 3 years ago
It's coded in C, using libnds. :)
smealum 3 years ago
so what site did you download it from? and do you make the game on the PC or on the DS?
MEZreviews 3 years ago
Lets just say, you have no idea what a coding language is therefore you cannot code a game

The engine looks nice but graphics could use some work and so could motions. Why was the guy's gun always movin around like that?
