why would anyone get a toyota... look at the interiors of the new toyotas. They all use cheap crapish plastic. Even the new 2010 lexus RX stepped down to Tototas level. the jetta is a smaller sedan ... it does have more mpg but the ford fusion is a mid-size sedan. its bigger than the jetta.

That's true, but look at the 700 Billion given to CitiGroup. What did they do with that cash, go on their own personal Corporate retreat. There was no order to give the money back, and CG just Splurged. The Big 3 promised to pay it back within 3 years. Look at what Chrysler did in the 80's. They got a bailout, and in a couple years paid back every cent with Interest. They are promising to do the same this time around, and people are skeptical. Its not like the Big 3 never paid back a Gov loan.

You obviously never heard the Big 3's Restructuring plan. All 300 some-odd pages of it read to congress. It included killing/selling brands, promising to make hybrids/small cars instead of focusing on SUV's/7 seaters (although their SUV's are selling like hotcakes, especially the Lambdas. ) etc.

I have heard it but it doesn't issue the problem of the unions and the high wages. If they went through bankruptcy it would have forced the unions to renegotiate wages to a more reasonable rate. But that is only the beginning, the Govt needs to ease regulations on what the auto industry can do but it also needs to place tariffs on foreign vehicles. The Japanese are notorious for selling things at a low in the states to put US companies out of business. Ie: no US TV companies anymore.

Yes it does. They said they would most likely kill the unions and all that other stuff. GM recommended placing tariffs on foreign vehicles, but the Congress/ Senate said it was a bad idea for a reason that is unknown.

Did you see how they have spent the money so far? Chrysler spent $600,000 on an ad campaign thanking us for the money we didn't want to give them. GM has the most promising line up especially the Volt but Chrysler will not make it through 2009 they have been predicted by multiple analysts that they will go away and I was surprised they have made it this long.

Chrysler has always wasted money. I'm mainly for the bailout for GM and Ford. I see the Cruze, Volt, this new 30 MPG Equinox, VUE Plug in Hybrid, Malibu hybrid, 2010 SRX, Tahoe/Yukon and escalade Hybrids, new 41 MPG Fusion Hybrid/ Milan, Ford escape Hybrid, MKT, MKS, Mazda3/6, S40, C30, etc. I see how good these products are from Ford and GM. They give promise to us that they will change their ways and once again make people feel confident in Domestics.

Typical uninformed GM lover; the company strategy is "going backwards into the future" as one co-spokesperson of GM said in his own words. These companies fail because they're ignorant. We can continue to build good cars in the U.S.A; but they simply refuse to implement proper technologies; and oil companies are in bed with manufacturers and commissions. People can build an electric car in their GARAGE that gets 60+ miles per charge. How's that for efficiency? GM = Ignorant (fail).

Look at the early Lexus' they look almost identical to the Mercedes cars of the same year. Without GM, these Japanese and Korean cars wouldn't exist.

The Asian market will have to focus on exporting less and cultivate their local markets, and Americans will have to import less and export more. I just hope that even if they estimated it to get 30MPG the savings we will be getting does not go to quality problems later on. I would advice the UAW to improve your workmanship so that your company does not go bankrupt. Quality problem is what's keeping us away from buying American cars.

GM has a hybrid. They decided to stimulate the hybrid market by offering it on the premium model range. LiPoly batteries are expensive, too expensive for the average consumer on even a small crossover vehicle. Look to Cadillac for a hybrid SUV. The more affluent people buy that hybrid the more the battery technology will drop in price, which will help Chevy fulfill your gripe by producing less expensive versions of hybrid vehicles.

They run on smaller engines than before, they are direct injected, and have MUCH finer materials throughout. If you were to say this car is bad, then a Corolla is a fail.

You all keep missing the point. Very few cars are selling. while Chevy and Ford reported market losses in the low 20% range, Toyota reported a 17% annual loss and Honda reported a 10%. Now you may say that means Honda is healthy and it is but that is because scooters and motorcycles have enjoyed a renaissance in sales and Honda is the only manufacturer I mentioned who builds bikes.
