If you dont mind me asking, how exactly did your friend go about building this? did he find plans online? I only ask because I'm interested in making one one of these days.
He says there's no real easy way to explain it, just do lots of research and R&D. He said to start with 4hv.org, it is a good place to get question answered about Tesla coils and high voltage stuff.
