The reason switzerland hasn't been in a conflict for 200 years is BECAUSE everyone is armed. Germany made treaties with Switzerland in both WW1 and WW2 because they knew that the entire country was ready to fight back. You would think that example alone would be enough to convince people why gun laws, frankly, are retarded.
Nazi Germany indeed had treaties with the swiss, but believe me, not because they were afraid of the swiss. Germany at that time wouldn't have had a lot of problems invading Switzerland, but it was simply not necessary to annect as long as larger, strategically more important countries were still at active war the Wehrmacht.
@ThiefOskar You misunderstand me. What I was trying to say was that countries like France, Spain, or Norway limited their guns and therefore were weaker in their ability to fight back. Even if Germany had taken over Switzerland, they would have a hard time keeping it. There were too many guns that would be used by resistance groups (unlike in France where they had to steal their weapons.) A government army isn't always enough, but citizens can be the most dangerous enemy to an invading force.

The reason switzerland hasn't been in a conflict for 200 years is BECAUSE everyone is armed. Germany made treaties with Switzerland in both WW1 and WW2 because they knew that the entire country was ready to fight back. You would think that example alone would be enough to convince people why gun laws, frankly, are retarded.

Germany at that time wouldn't have had a lot of problems invading Switzerland, but it was simply not necessary to annect as long as larger, strategically more important countries were still at active war the Wehrmacht.

@ThiefOskar You misunderstand me. What I was trying to say was that countries like France, Spain, or Norway limited their guns and therefore were weaker in their ability to fight back. Even if Germany had taken over Switzerland, they would have a hard time keeping it. There were too many guns that would be used by resistance groups (unlike in France where they had to steal their weapons.) A government army isn't always enough, but citizens can be the most dangerous enemy to an invading force.

Looking at how the country was founded, a pact to defend each other in times of need, throu armies uniting under one flag, removing the army would mean removing the flag. Yes, although Switzerland was selling material to the allies and axis and was of some use to Germany that way, there is evidence that the military made germans postpone any invasion plans.

Germany pushed the russians way back into Russia there were afraid that Japan should attack to and destroy Russia completely. It's only in the end Russia striked back, when the east front was weaker because they had to focus more on western Europe. Like many German generals said back then, war on two fronts isn't easy but very difficult.

The European Union protects it borders and sky theres also a EU coastgard. In an military practice with a EU member the US failed seriously the gotland submarine destroying the largest and best aircraft carrier of the US. Russia will never attack the EU they will never win.

There are some politics issues but when the EU is being attacked we will not start debating. Wars like Afghanistan are different.

@RebelGuy95 You dont know alot do you. Ukraine will never join the nato it will join the EU. The European Union is the largest part of the NATO. And it's the nato that protects every nato member. It's ironic how something european becomes american when they joined that's bull shit. The nato was created by the EU only 10 years later the US became a member. The NATO is a western organisation not american. And the EU is capable of protecting it's self.

Are these American broadcasters doing this story? Because they sound American. Pretty hypocritical, the country with the largest military in the world which is constantly invading it's neighbors criticizing a non-violent country for having an army. Perhaps if military service were mandatory in the U.S., Americans wouldn't be so quick to attack other countries and commit to war.

Second, the journalists may be american, but they work for RUSSIA today, a russian broadcasting company, and since when did we insult Switzerland?? We havent, get your fact straight before you speak. Americans in fact have a lot of respect for Swiss military because they are fierce fighters who will do anything to protect their country. Get ur facts straight before you look like a fool next time

As far as them working for Russia today, well, it's probably safer for them to criticize Switzerland than Russia. A Russian journalist criticizing the government usually winds up dead.
If America had mandatory military service, we wouldn't be involved in two wars right now. What's your problem?

And if you listen, I dont think they were criticizing, only bringing to light the fact that some Swiss believe they should get rid of their military. As for mandatory mil service, i dont think its necessary, do you really think our troops want to go to war? NO. Besides, Im a veteran myself, served my country gladly, so has EVERY male in my family since the revolution. I dont want to fight, but to protect my people, I will gladly serve again

woo major mix up here a militia is a people army. Yes you could only have a militia supported only by you people. Active army is what they are talking about. Yes you could do away with that if you wanted but you should support the e.u. if you are part of it. meaning the money you support would go to someone else army instead.Then what if the E.U. fall apart though a economic oil loss . you never know.

There are two types, An ORGANIZED militia, meaning under government control, then you have the UN-ORGANIZED militia, which is the citizens as a whole who are not paid, but willing volunteer their time, efforts and own materials to a fight. The U.S. both. And yes, there is a big difference.
